  • The crew must be bouncing up and down in that thing since Climaxes have unbalanced drive shafts causing them to bounce from medium - fast speeds.

  • Yes, but it rides like a cadillac compared to those Polish LYd2 siderod diesels (for a taste of that see my American Railfan in Poland; the Forest Train 2/2).

  • i sometimes go to Durbin after the Cass Scenic Railroad Railfan weekend Cass, and Durbin WV are like 15 miles from eachother

  • That's what I did: Cass and the Durbin Rocket plus the Tygart Flyer and the Cheat Mountain Salamander together they make a great railfan holiday.

  • i love heislers and climaxes. what year was this filmed?

  • It was June 2002.

  • Hey, the Rocket DOES streak along, doesn't she? I've lived in FL awhile and didn't know that rusted hulk that sat for years beside the track at Cass had been fixed up so nice. Good job, and great video! Have to get up there just to see it, (I was born and raised in Petersburg).

  • Watching this brings a tear to my eye from happy memories. Two brothers, "Gandy- Dancers " at heart are riding the rails in heaven, But this RR was their favorite.. Rest in Peace Ed & Bob Cochran...We miss you.

    Ps Hugs to TZ

  • Good to see #3 still running. I worked on it from 1978 until 1990 to get it running. Was just a pile of junk when the project started. And YES, she is FAST. This Climax, which was built in 1910 is a 55-ton machine; big boiler on a 50-ton locomotive frame, hence the particularly narrow gangway between cab and tank. Engine was geared high and we had her up to 25 mph on good track while in Connecticut!

  • My wife and I were in Durbin last year and rode the train. It was really great! Did you know that the South end of the line is in the river? It was washed away about 8 years ago and remains in the river still today. Thanks for another great video.

  • Beautiful steam climax survivor. I have its HO scale model by Bachmann in my collection. Thanks for sharing the real thing.

  • she moves pretty fast for a climax

  • Another superb video, gothpapa. I visited this little line back in 2001 when they were using their little Whitcomb gasoline engine. Am planning on making a return visit this summer to see the Climax for the first time. Thanks for the video!
