Or...IS the bassist actually NHOP after all? Looks like someone else. Sounds similar, but "flowier," at least in this version, than the recorded NHOP version. I'm confused!
Who IS this bassist? I like (love) his version of this tune better than NHOP's (Niels-Henning Orsted Pedersen). Much better. Sounds like a piccolo bass. But it's not. Is it? I'm not a bass player.. So help me out, someone!
This is an all time favourite of mine - from a 'live from Japan' album that must have been recorded around this time. That's Martin Drew (London, UK) on drums, and Niels Henning Ørsted Pedersen on bass.
Got to meet Joe Pass in the early 80s when he played in Melbourne. Never got to meet the great man, Oscar Peterson, though. This is great ensemble playing - mutual respect all round - and the bass player puts in a killer performance.
Ok - Just one more. . .

The version of Nigerian Marketplace that was performed in Japan and released on the CD " Return To Happiness" has Niels Pederson on bass.

The bassist is David Young.

In my opinion, NHOP's version has stronger singing mood and smoother melody......
