I feel like this is his best song. Just the intro, you know the song when you hear it. Its my favourite. It defines him to me. Acoustic. Brilliant chord changes. Finger picking. Its a pretty song.
Stabbing yourself in the heart TWICE is a pretty tough feat to pull off.... and why would the girl pull the knife out? Sorry, but that's what's so fishy... HOW THE FUCK COULD YOU PULL A KNIFE OUT OF SOMEONE YOU LOVE!?? Unless you stuck it there in the first place.
all these comments about his death/suicide are so annoying. It seems like no one cares about the MUSIC. If now he was still with us there would be many less useless comments and we'd rather talk about his amazing fingerpicking in this song.
ok- i liked a few heatmiser songs back in the early 90's so i looked them up on youtube and found elliot's later stuff. and i really missed a great musical career. fucking great songs. really sorry they passed by my radar, but glad i can hear them now.
i think he went down a rocky path, for sure. he had always been suicidal and his last three years were his worse. i personally think he did kill himself, but it really doesnt matter what our opinions are.
all that matters is once again we lose another great man before his time.
I was at this show, the day after my birthday. I couldn't believe how wonderful the concert was. I was in tears the whole time, I hope your beautiful soul rests in peace Elliott, your deeply missed.
you know when he was a kid - like 10 - he'd write songs that he described as basically a lot of chord transitions, because he said that that was the most interesting part of songs.
As a side note, I've been looking for the best live performance on youtube, and it's really sad to see him get more and more desperate and strung out with time. Poor guy.
you guys can think he's a pussy for wanting to cash out but stabbing yourself in the chest doesn't sounds like an "easy way out" to me. its not like he blew his head off. love him for what he gave while he was alive, and don't judge someone else for how and when they decide to leave. who are we to try and understand what he was dealing with. mental illness is a motherfucker...
Unku, the best thing that can be said about Elliott is to enjoy his art and not worry about murder conspiracies.
he did kill himself dude; pretty much all of his music going back to the early-mid 90's reflect his outlook on life and self-destructive nature. He gave us all a gift, which douchebags like brandonkirk want to dissect and criticize; rise above all that crap and just appreciate what he left us :) keep listening unku! and brandonkirk should eat his own shit
Well, the truth of the matter is no one can ever really be sure unless they were there. Sometimes killing a depressed person is convenient. Overdoses and such are the commonplace with suicides, not multiple stab wounds to the chest!
But nevertheless this man was extremely fortunate -- he had the grace to have passed away leaving behind a legacy in his music. So many people leave us and all we have is a face in a photo to remember them by. This guy has his art to keep us warm on cold nights. :)
do you guys think he killed himself or his girlfriend did it? either way i don't care he left a big impact on me and my music! hVE good one elliott:)

Elliott was extremely talented and gifted, but I wouldn't say he was amazing. Committing suicide is the most selfish thing you can do to yourself, family, and humanity. It is the easy way out.
I would say he was amazing. "Selfish to humanity," what is that supposed to mean? Everyone is selfish; that's part of being human. I agree that suicide is an easy way out in a sense, but it's rarely the decision of rational people. A lot was going on in Smith's head, drug-related and not. Don't pretend you know anything about him; you have no business judging his decisions.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Well he was a public figure, so I will judge thankyou. No, not everyone is selfish. My philosophy on life is that we were sent here to give, give, and give some more. You give and you get. You take, committ suicide, you are not able to give anymore.
Smith sold millions of records and inspired at least that many people for the better. In all your pretentious altruism, how many people have you inspired? I can't wait to read your self-help book. Finally, I will be able to solve a lifetime of personal struggle with two quixotic sentences.
Everyone faces depression, sickness, and heartache. There is no reason he should have taken his life. You asked how many people I have inspired, which proves my point. He was given a talent that others are not, so even more the reason he should have kept going on with life.
Depression can either be the result of inactivity by neurotransmitters in the brain or a lack or production of a "pleasure" hormone like serotonin. The difference between someone going through a shitty experience and someone who is clinically depressed is clinically depressed people have an inability to experience normal "pleasure induced" sensory functions. This can make you not want to eat, not want to have sex, not want to do anything normal.
Idiot, certain kinds of drugs will elevate your level of "pleasure" hormone at once giving you a tremendous high. These hormones are only meant to be released slowly periodically during the day. When you do decide to take drugs, you have to know that your "pleasure fix" will be depleted causing depression.
In Elliott's case I don't think it was the drugs causing the depression. He might have been taking them to temporarily get away from the depression he already had.
That was a nice try though, but you're still a retard.
You are seeing this purely from a biological side, and you are stating it as pure fact. There are many theories on depression, and nothing to say each one is true, including yours....
But I really don't want to be dragged into this, not here.
He took his life, because maybe it was his time. You can't ask someone to suffer, because he is talented, and because he needs to keep producing music. That's the most selfish thing you could say.
This is one of those Cobain murder conspiracy things. Personally I think he was killed, but most people think he was murdered. But that's not why I posted the comment; it wasn't to decode the conspiracy theory, it was to state that he wasn't selfish. I didn't want to say he was murdered because the person I was replying to said he killed himself. I'm not here to go over if he killed himselfOrNot(even though I'm a strong believe in his murder, being that there were so many things pointing to it)
yeah, i agree, theres to many question marks surrounding it, everyone just marked it as the depressed selfish rockstar looking for an easy way out, i really think that that wasnt the case
He definitely didn't kill himself. First of all, nobody stabs them self in the heart. You have to go through your own breast plate. U know how hard that is?
Second, he was in the middle of making an album. Artists dont just stop in the middle of an album. I'm sure if he wanted to kill himself he would have finished recording first.
i know you wrote 11 months ago, but im sure his album making wouldnt have stopped him, he wasnt in it for the money he was in it for making songs related to his life.
you are a retarded douchebag. keep your ignorant philosophies to yourself. he gave more to humanity than a million bigmouthed judgemental idiots leaving comments on youtube about their 'philosophy on life'. I would love to hear back from you exactly what you 'give' in life that leaves you in a position to pass judgement on anyone else. the simple fact is that Elliott gave so much more to his fellow humans than he ever got back, which is reflected in his art.
That's right . . . I couldn't have said it better myself; and I patrol this place for fools. They don't get it and they never will. But YOU and I, we transcend.
I have to disagree with you on so many things. He was and still is amazing. Stabbing yourself is really not an "easy way out", think of the pain he had to have suffered, for so long, to decide that upon himself. It's not a selfish thing to do at all, someone shouldn't have to suffer because "humanity needed him". Think of how long he fought, it's a selfish thing to ask someone in pain to keep on fighting. You're the selfish person.
