This is bone chilling, infuriating, sickening, disturbing, and unbelievably sad. I grew up with vague stories of this happening. I just didn't know how horrific this was. It is such a helpless feeling listening to this, knowing that nothing can be done about it.

I have a theory about why most victims were lying face down. We know that the first to die were the children. At one point in the tape Jones is heard saying that it's ok for parents to lie with their children, (he even called it "humane!!!") This leads me to believe that up to that point, someone else or more than one person were laying the children down alone as they died. The parents and others just followed suit and went face down as the kids were. Any ideas on this? I enjoy the debate.

One of the symptoms of Cyanide poisoning is a severe headache. I don't believe that the sedative+Potassium cyanide poisoning is as peaceful as described. It's quick, yes, but so is Hydrogen sulfide. (The former smells like almonds and the latter as rotten eggs. Canisters of Potassium cyanide were located next to the bottles of sedative-hypnotics).

I have a theory about why most victims were lying face down. We know that the first to die were the children. At one point in the tape Jones is heard saying that it's ok for parents to lie with their children, (he even called it "humane!!!") This leads me to believe that up to that point, someone else or more than one person were laying the children down alone as they died. The parents and others just followed suit and went face down as the kids were. Any ideas on this? I enjoy the debate.

Leo Ryan was a new type of politician who actually got involved in the issues he voted on. He was revolutionary and he really cared about people.
That fervor and dedication... is also why he's dead. Coming down to Guyana himself to investigate this cult.
And much respect to Jackie Speier. For someone to survive that and still serve the public... that is strength.
And hearing those kids... they had no idea their parents would allow them to die/kill them.

He obviously planned the murder of the congressman so that he have an excuse to tell his people for why they need to kill themselves. He is not convincing them of heaven, he's convincing them it's eaither kill yourself or be tortured by the govenment for the killing of the congressman, it is horrible to hear those kids dying in the background, it made me realize that anyone who can MURDER their own children (it wasn't the childrens choice to die), will never be in peace in the afterlife..

They had a choice to move there, they had a choice to feed poison to their children, and dont say that they were forced to do it, because even if they were, they had a choice to put up a fight.....these people didn't even put up a fight except for that one woman who was screamed at by the rest of the people........they had a choice whther to MORDER their children of to say ENOUGH and try to escape, no matter if they get shot for it
