@naterd00d No, I'm talking about Black. Johnnie Walker Black costs $46 here in Canada. That's around the same cost as several single malt whiskies. Charging the same for a blend as a single malt is overkill. Try Islay Mist of Te Bheag. Both are good blends for significantly less money. Teachers Highland Cream is cheaper even than those, and it's an excellent whisky. It's basically premium prices for a brand and an image in the case of Johnnie Walker Black. Not that it's bad. It is indeed good.
On Mr. Hitchens' admiration, I decided to drink JWB for the first time. It isn't just the breakfast of champions, it also causes a headache of champions. I am glad though that I made the attempt. I lift my glass to you Mr. Hitchens, get well!

Any whiskey is expensive if you drink it from a bar; it's probably cheaper in the long run to buy whatever you drink from a liquor store. few years back i had the good fortune of meeting him in the rest room of a new york city think tank where he was scheduled to speak that evening.
just as i had envisioned, he engaged me in effortless conversation(more like mesmerized me) and with genuine curiosity asked about my background. needless to say, he knew more about the corner of the world i hail from than i did.
i shall forever cherish the moments i got to spend with my master who taught me the way out of darkness ( islam ).

I have been busy working the past few days, but a bottle of JW Black will be in my possession soon. A giant of intellect, a man of immense passion, dare I say of compassion as well ( in a form many would never understand), I believe Hitch's words will last as long as those of Aquinas, Aristotle, Paine, and far longer than what some millions, if not billions cling to so desperately today. In the last couple months, I'd been thinking of sending Christopher an e-mail, to let him know how much of an inspiration he was to me, how important his ideas were to me in some difficult transitions in my life. It will always be one of my greatest regrets that I never sent that e-mail, that I never let him know how great of a man he was and is. He may be dead and he may be gone, but he will never be silenced and he will never be forgotten.

@naterd00d No, I'm talking about Black. Johnnie Walker Black costs $46 here in Canada. That's around the same cost as several single malt whiskies. Charging the same for a blend as a single malt is overkill. Try Islay Mist of Te Bheag. Both are good blends for significantly less money. Teachers Highland Cream is cheaper even than those, and it's an excellent whisky. It's basically premium prices for a brand and an image in the case of Johnnie Walker Black. Not that it's bad. It is indeed good.

But I too love wishkey. It's the liquid of the gods. Yet I drink it until I feel light headed and, most of the time, I stop. I am not Hitch. Can't drink every day and function. Most of us can't. That's why we aren't Hitchens. Intelligent but stupid. He makes the most brilliant ideas yet was under the influence of one of the most dangerous drugs in existance!
And that's why I admire the man. Only human.

When you compare Black Vs Blue. Black cost $50 and Blue cost $189 a 5th.
Black has smooth tones and even some aftertaste of maybe raisins or dates.
Blue is like silk but there in not a huge contrast in flavor between the two.
Drink one class of blue and then switch to black and you can't tell a huge difference.
The blue is silky but the black is still smooth. Its so subtle its hard to distinguish the difference.
Black is almost as good as the Blue and its $130 less.

I picked up some JWB thanks to Hitchens' recommendation. I seriously cannot drink other forms of alcohol (aside from an occasional beer) without a grimace now. It is indeed the best alcohol that you can obtain at reasonable price and quantity.

@CharlesDickens99 Just had a dram of Johnnie Walker Black at my local bar (in the Washington, DC). It set me back 11 bucks. Any whiskey is expensive if you drink it from a bar; it's probably cheaper in the long run to buy whatever you drink from a liquor store. But, as the man said, Johnnie Black is the king of blended whiskies, accept no substitutes.
