So cute.! I'm trying to decide on which breed of dog to get and rite now I'm leaning more on Yorkies. But I have two nephews that basically live with me nd I heard Yorkies r nippy. Is that true.?
@missies19 Yorkies are not really recommended for families with small children-simply for the safety of both the child & the dog.Yorkies are very delicate, & small children, at times, don't understand boundaries that are needed around small dogs & could accidentally harm the dog, thus creating a situation where the dog could unintentionally hurt the child while only trying to defend/protect itself. You are doing the right thing by researching & asking questions.Good luck in your search!
I love your video:) and I am going to check out your website:) I have a 6 yr old yorkie named cutter and I love him so much....I cannot imagine my life without him.. thanks for sharing your video.... Sincerely, Amber and yorkie... From Wisconsin
@amberadlebush1 Thanks for taking the time to leave such a nice comment Amber! I always enjoy hearing from other Yorkie lovers. Cutter sounds like a sweetheart!
I can't believe she named her dog the same as MINE! It's the first time I've seen another Yorkshire Terrier MALE with the name Tiny like mine though... he was also named Tiny because he was so small. :-)
@jennymimi1 You are right! Human shampoo is too harsh for dogs, especially Yorkies. It can cause dry skin and/or other skin allergy issues. However, Baby human shampoo is okay to use because it is really not like a true soap in its chemical makeup which is why it is made for our human babies. Plus, it won't burn or irritate the eyes. However, I would use it only on a pup; it's really not strong enough to clean a dirty adult dog. For an adult Yorkie, an oatmeal shampoo works great!
I think my Yorkshire Terrier is one of little washed in a shower, ha-ha.
He began being a pain in the backside for rolling in dog mess so every time he does it he goes in the shower - the first time he had a shower he tried to run away, but now he's used to it and just stands there shaking his back legs.
We got him when he was two but he's very well behaved (except for the rolling) and he knows some basic commands. The best one being "stay" and he listens very well.

@CyberjoFrank Thank you so much for the nice comments! We love Yorkshire Terriers and hope to educate the public about the breed through our website and videos. Once in a while we have Yorkie puppies for sale. We are not a kennel, so we only have a few litters per year.
@opinionated99 Thank you! Congrats on looking for a Yorkie! You may want to take a look at my website - I have a section called "caring for a Yorkie" (You'll find it on the home page). @thepamperedpuppies Thank you for your reply. I still love watching your vids and I will check out your site...do you put anything in their ears to keep water out?
@xIchiHallowHeartx Thank you!! Congrats on your new Yorkie! If you've never owned a Yorkie before, you may find the information on my website helpful under "Caring for a Yorkie" on the home page.
@horsesgb Congrats to you!! Enjoy your new Yorkie baby! I have a brand new litter. The pups turned 2 months old today. I have their pictures up on the website if you are interested in taking a look.
I have male yorkie puppy now is 7 months old, already little bigger than his yorkie ma, think will be big like his yorkie pa. Anyway. One of his ear stays down, but yet, other one stays up, I think its kinda cute. My question is what age will yorkie stop growing, and changing? b/c i would love his ears stay this way.
@laurielatorre Hi Laurie! Your baby sounds like a doll! At 7 months, he is almost full grown. He's not going to get much bigger than what he is now. His growing at this point has slowed down quite a bit, and by 1 year he should be at his maximum size. But he's not far from that now. At this age, the ear cartilage has permanently creased, so you don't have to worry about it going back up. In order to get a droopy ear to stand, you have to catch it at an early age. I've seen some with both down.
wow. that is the cutest puppy i have ever seen.:) but i might get a newborn puppy...im thinking of getting a poodle, a yorky, or a shiba inu cause their so dang adorable, but which one is better? or fun to play with? its a hard decision...btw very nice video
@ltranxx You should bathe the pup at least once every 6 weeks. If needed, you can bathe more frequent, but it would be advisable not to bathe more than once every 4 weeks because it can dry their skin out. Of course, if you have a potty, mud, or similar incident, you can always bathe when the need arises.
@mayagirl12322 I am not personally familiar with breeders in New Mexico, but I am always eager to recommend AKC's Breeder Classifieds. They will have listed breeders in your area. However, if you are not concerned with registration, quality, bloodline, etc. you can always check your local newspaper.
@INVISIBLE2HEM This can happen during teething. The ears can go up and down. However, if it seems that the ears are staying permanently down, they need to be taped. You can find You Tube videos on different taping techniques. I do not have one yet, but plan to in the near future. Taping usually works as long as the cartilage has not permanently creased dut to the weight of the ear. So, the sooner you tape, the better. Of course, sometimes the ears are just too big and will not stand up.
i have 12 week old yorkie. always tries to jump out/climb out bathtub or sink even if i talk 2 him in smoothing voice. i let him smell water, paw it, etc, before put him in very shallow water. he still act like he's in very deep water & freak out. so...help!!!
@spicychick1987 Hi, I'm sorry my original comment did not post for some reason. I hope youre having better luck with bathing at this point. If not, I would try giving yummy treats as well as the praising you are doing. Start with baby steps-giving treats and praise when you show the pup the sink(every day for a week of each step). Then do the same and sit him in the sink with out any water(give yummy treats & praise). When he seems comfortable being in the sink without water, add a little water.
@Karinnaxxxx Hi Karinna, This was one of the smallest pups I have had in litter. He wasn't quite 2 pounds at 8 weeks old. Thanks for watching the video!
hey, i just got a baby yorkie and he's 4weeks old and im picking him up in 3weeks when he's old enough, how often would i have to give him a bath?? and how much food, and how often would i feed him a day??
@NkaujXis I think you will find that vets/breeders will all have a different opinion about this and many other things. I would say that avoiding as much water as possible in the ear & drying afterwards is best until you find out if your pup is susceptible to ear infections. I've never had problems with ear infections in any of my pups/dogs, so it's never been a concern to me. Many dogs love water, and will even go swimming on their own. But their are some dogs who get bad ear infections.
Yes, it should work fine for your little maltipoo. I would be sure to use baby shampoo on her instead of using dog shampoo since she is so young. The baby shampoo is gentle and won't burn her little eyes if you accidentally get some on her face. Keep in mind that she might not enjoy her first few baths, but soon she will enjoy this time of bonding with you. When she gets older you can use a whitening shampoo that will help her white color really stand out. Enjoy your new baby!! :-)

my yorkieis 4 months old i got him when he was 2 months. He is really fun and energetic! He is way ovarlly protective! he protects me from other puppies he usually stays away from large dogs exept when they come towards me he starts to bark and growl so the big dog justs walks away. He is very friendly to people and when he knows i am not comfrotable with someone or something he chases it off! his mother was a nice dog. I got him from a breeder he was one of the six babies who got a a nice home.
Yes, this sounds like the typical Yorkie attitude :-)! I don't think Yorkies realize how small they are. I have seen mine chase off big dogs too. It is quite funny to see a big dog run from a little bitty Yorkie. I think the big dogs run because they are startled that such a small dog was brave enough to confront them, probably not so much that they are scared of the Yorkie, LOL :-)!! Sounds like you are certainly enjoying yours!!

I enjoyed your video. I have 2 Yorkies. I generally fill the sink with water and then wash them. IMO it's warmer for them. Don't you think they get cold just being wet? While my two aren't thrilled with their bath, they are good. Sometimes my daughter puts them into the bathtub together. That's fun, but messy.
@Pinkrosesdl Thanks for watching the video! Yes, I use both methods for bathing my Yorkies. It really depends on the dog. One of mine absolutely loves being bathed and getting wet, while the others just try to tolerate it. But all of them get happy and hyper after they are all pretty and clean from their bath. Getting a little water in the ear shouldn't be a problem. Most canine ear infections are caused by bacterial infections, ear mites, unhealthy environmenst (such as a soiled sleeping area), or insufficient hygiene. Remember, you are doing great by taking the time to bathe and bond with your little doggie. And if you are concerned about a little water in the ear, you can simply take a cotton ball, and dab in the ear a little to desaturate any moisture. Most dogs can rid the ear of water themselves.
Thank you for the nice comment! Bathing your new little dog will be another great way for you to bond with him/her. Remember, you may want to give your little dog at least a couple of weeks to get adjusted to its new surroundings before attemping to bathe him/her. Most of the time, "the first bath", and maybe the first few, can be a little scary for the doggie.
