Am a luo man but my kenyan heroes are J.M Kariuki, Tom Mboya, DR. Robert Ouko, Bishop Muge, Harry Thuku,Dedan Kimathi. This are the real leaders and am very sure that if they were still alive today, Kenyans will not face what they are facing today. This were the leaders who care more about kenyans and that is why they got killed ruthlessly. The leaders we have today is just a bunch of hungry dogs who just care about themselves and their families while the kenyans who voted them in are suffering.
Like most of us right now, we were not born but JM's legacy lives on. He was/is still a legend, a martyr. Like Tom Mboya b4 him, Robert Ouko later, they will never be 4gotten. What a sad song. I've shed tears. Kenyatta did not live long after getting rid of him. We all know who killed Ouko. They are now have-beens. May they never find peace even in death. Live long our heros.
I was a young boy in Nakuru when this happened. What sadness that the sacrifices these people made ( Mboya, Ouko, Muge, etc) has all been in vain since their killers continue to squeeze Kenya. When God hear our and save us from our tormentors.
Sad, im Mkamba and a child then, but sitll this song moves me to tears, only criminals succeed in politics in Kenya and their children take over this was a tragic case like that of Tom MboyaDr Ouko,Bishop Muge the list is long RIP
Its been years but Kariuki we havent forgoten you.One day the will of the people will prevail and the guilty will be charged. We stand behind ur principles and support for the oppressed.May you live forever in our hearts.
FYi - Feel free to add/correct my attempt at this song's translation - I believe it is a good attempt, the missing portions are little..will not make or break the translation. Hey, I drew up in Nairo and have lived in LA since high school...felt it would be patriotic to translate for those interested Kenyan buddies. Cya in Nbo later this year.
They strangled him like a sheep, they left him in the national reserve and drop 100 elephants. Kariuki is not dead, he is still with us, let God's will be done. He died for his good deeds, ask yourself what you will die 4? The one that cut his fingers, the one that drove and left him in the national reserve, he will pay will all Kenyans assembled. JM was loved by his father, young and old people...Ask yourself what will live for?
Leaders, why did you have to cut his fingers,it is not that he...(sorry,Kikuyu in this part is too deep), someone will die before I go back mashambani. Govt, now that JM has died, let's get together and find out what killed him, so that blood is not spilled on his behalf, there is no thief and no accompliance, they are all the same.??.ask yourself, what will you die for?
My take on this song is: (My Kikuyu not so good but do-able, a song is best listening but here we go)
People of Kenya, becoz JM has died, they have removed his eyes and teeth and it is not because he stole or kill anyone, please do not spill blood for him...leave it to God, and let God's will be done. JM Kariuki was loved by his father, loved by old and young people, he died for his good deeds, now you should ask yourself what will you die for? Ask yourself what will you die for?
be a thief and steal from those who have almost nothing and be protected by the law be good honest caring and peoples'fighter and be slaughtered like a bull what then.
J M Kariuki died for his good character and love for the people instead of dwelling on revenge or his killer ask yourself WHAT WILL YOU OR RATHER WOULD YOU DIE FOR? good message Kamaru
I was sitting in the public gallery when the news of his death was revealed. A sad, dark time for Kenya. Kamaru captures the emotion of the time in the song.
I am purely a reporter and not a politician, an activist, a theorist, a civil rights campainer, a revolutionist or a speculater. I report facts from reliable sources.
We have seen MPs going to government driving junks or even unable to aforrd a car only to return back to the voters six months down the line millionaires and am talking of 99% of those politicians! why can't ordinary citizens have such turn-around of life styles in 6 months?
The thing is JM is not dead, JM will never die. He still lives in the heart of Kenya's youth.. I believe when one lives a selfless live the way JM did then his spirit lives forever, we saw JM's spirit in Karimi Nduthu, but they killed him, we saw Tom Mboya's spirit in Robert Ouko, but they killed him... and today when i look at the Kenyan youth i see the spirit of JM, the spirit of Mboya, Kimathi... -YOU CAN KILL THE DREAMER BUT YOU CANT KILL THE DREAM!
This video made me cry. Love you J.M. I'm only 24, but I've heard too many good tales about him, and not a single bad thing has ever been said. They are all dying a very slow and painful death. 1st Jommo & now that Kanyotu guy
J. M. although you were murdered when some of us were very young,we learn't about your guts and patriotism for our motherland.Even if we curse those who murdered you, that will not bring you back.We can only ask GOD ALMIGHTY to avenge your death and send those who killed you to hell where they shall burn forever.Rest in peace my dear brother. You will forever be missed by all peace loving Kenyans.Rest in peace.
Mwaura, what a nice comment to leave. Very well thought out. Kariuki, we learned about you from our parents. We heard you were a good man who stood up against a corrupt land grabbing by Kenyatta. We heard you spoke for the landless poor. We were too young to know, but we salute you nontheless. Njamba, may your spirit live forever.
Please if we suport any killings regardless of who does what or who kills who we are acomplice and our land will be cused for ever. we need to preach peace becuse whoever kills by the sword will die by it or his or her offsring will.
This is my wish. Let's get together and built our motherland once more time. Forgive 70 times 70 each day. Amen.

love the video. kikuyu's we are all over. lets keep in unison especially after what we have witnessed from the just ended elections. let peace and justice prevail
The best that we can do right now, it's to advocate for the recognition and better treatment of the all Mau Mau veterans and their families. It's a shame that after such struggles, they continue to live and die in abject poverty. Thanks Kamaru for keeping the spirits alive!
J.M.Kariuki was one of the Lion`s of Africa. He was one of the foundation stones in our nation & Africa. The year his life was taken I left Rift Valley for Nairobi and as a young man I could sense an ingredient was missing in the nation. Mr. Kamaru thank you for providing us with a link with our golden past.
jm kariuki was a championing for the poor people rights.Kamaru is true kikuyu prophet i.e. the killer of jm kariuki will be placed on bee-hive and witnessed by kenya public and that happened to KENYATTA THE KILLER.KENYATTA coffin was a bee hived shaped casket.
Kenyans who knew J M Kariuki can acknowledge Mr Kariuki was one very very handsome man and had the personality to go with it..he s children look just like him his eyes broad white smile phew yeah elegance at its best humble man!!r i p i remember every detail to this day, kamaru thanks for reviving J M Kariuki thats what democracy does to a nation.
