I read that these guys were touring with Dark Funeral. I didn't know what to expect with the name, but I knew if they were running around with one of the most epic and legendary Black Metal bands of all time, they probably didn't suck. I was a little worried after hearing the intro., but holy SHIT, they dispelled all of my doubts with the opening riff! Great example of Technical Black Metal? Is there even such a thing!? I don't know, but I can't wait to see these guys live someday!
Figure Id check these guys out since they are playing where I live with Mayhem. Im not impressed at all. More modern commercialized "black metal". Euronymous is rolling ove in his grave.
@zackmorgs In the Absence of Light? Ive herd a few tracks off of that (I try to give most things a fair try). They should have stuck with their previous style. This band seems (to me anyway) to be a collection of hipsters pandering to a modern audience, while trying to appeal to a more traditional BM aesthetic.
@Gfury2000 Considering the only remaining member throughout the band's existence is Ken Sorceron (who writes a lot of the band's material) I'd say it's mostly just one hipster if there were any hipsters at all.

Its a different selling out, rather than making art for arts sake, it seems that they make music to pander to a rock "n" Roll crowd. Using a Black Metal aesthetic, they hold to an image with little or no sincerity. In that regard they are hipsters, those that do everything to make themselves appear somehow "different" "edgy" or "cool" to others.
@Gfury2000 I don't see how Cradle of Filfth, Wolves in the Throne Room, Goatwhore and Ulver are related to Abigail Williams. I suppose most of those bands utilize pretty high end production, Cradle of Filfth especially. (I hate them) But still, those bands are only vaguely related in genre.

@zackmorgs In the Absence of Light? Ive herd a few tracks off of that (I try to give most things a fair try). They should have stuck with their previous style. This band seems (to me anyway) to be a collection of hipsters pandering to a modern audience, while trying to appeal to a more traditional BM aesthetic.

@Gfury2000 Considering the only remaining member throughout the band's existence is Ken Sorceron (who writes a lot of the band's material) I'd say it's mostly just one hipster if there were any hipsters at all.
I'm not sure what you mean by "pandering to a modern audience." I'd be happy to hear you elaborate on this. But, if you mean trying to make money off the current trend, I hardly think black metal would be a current trend. Thanks for being friendly unlike many youtube posters out there.

@zackmorgs Perhaps "commercial" isn't the best term, AB will certainly never sell millions of albums or even close. Its a different selling out, rather than making art for arts sake, it seems that they make music to pander to a rock "n" Roll crowd. Using a Black Metal aesthetic, they hold to an image with little or no sincerity. In that regard they are hipsters, those that do everything to make themselves appear somehow "different" "edgy" or "cool" to others.

I try to make all my opinions as objective as I can, I have a deep bias against bands such as Abigail Wiliams.
I usually lump them with others such as: Dimmu Borgir, Cradle of Filth, Wolves in the Throne Room, Goatwhore, and Ulver. Perhaps I'm to picky?
Furthermore, I dont use the anonymity that the internet provides to be an asshole to others.

@Gfury2000 I don't see how Cradle of Filfth, Wolves in the Throne Room, Goatwhore and Ulver are related to Abigail Williams. I suppose most of those bands utilize pretty high end production, Cradle of Filfth especially. (I hate them) But still, those bands are only vaguely related in genre.
I guess I'm really confused about Wolves in the Throne room especially. haha
I think comparing Abigail Williams to Dimmu Borgir is definitely more accurate. That being said I like both of those bands.

Good band, love them, i think they are great. but they are not black metal.
