  • Impressed with the fat bar pull ups. It looks like it's a thumbless false grip for this, with more of the hand over it.

    Makes me wonder, would fat bar pull ups be a good way to encourage the form needed for muscle ups? Doing the pushing portion at top of that seems like it might even feel nicer on the hand (bigger surface) when it's a fat bar.

  • @tyciol Fat bar pull ups would be a phenomenal way to build up the strength to perform muscle ups. The fatter the bar, the more challenging it's going to make the pull up. I wouldn't recommend doing muscle ups on the fat bar, but it will definitely improve your pulling strength so you'll be pounding out muscle ups in no time :-)

  • @MrStangHigh It's still a real pull up even if you don't lock the elbows. It's just not a full RoM one. Partials are still pull ups. BRB saying partial presses aren't presses.

  • hi,I m 179 pound 5ft4in guy i tried my best to do wide grip pull ups and all i could come up with is 2 p-ups @ best. though i do 30to35 push-ups in one round but i m not able to able to push my pull ups performance..damn it hurts...any practical suggestions please?

  • @gasousstate82 The best advice I can give you, is to keep practicing all different forms of pull ups. Every upper body workout you do should involve some type of pull up in it. Ditch the seated cable pull down and stick to any form of pull (assisted or body weight). And your push ups should be easier than doing pull ups because your not pushing your entire body against gravity as you are in a pull up. Pull ups are king!

  • I have a question I've always wondered about... when it comes to pull ups... isn't it easier for a shorter smaller girl then a taller heavier girl? I mean the shorter girl is pulling up less weight and her arms are shorter too so she has the leverage advantage. I'm just thinking about this logically. Is this correct?

  • @FitnessLifeShawn It basically comes down to a strength to weight ratio. There are plenty of tall females who are amazing rock climbers that can do some pretty strict variations of pull ups. If you're short and fat, you're really not going to be at an advantage over a tall and fat person. Obviously the taller you are, the more weight you're going to naturally carry. But it also allows you the frame to put on more muscle and without compromising the width of your frame.

  • @stupidgymshit I get that... that wasn't really my question though. Please re-read. I said "shorter smaller girl" and "taller heavier girl". Meaning that their weight to height ratios are the same. Wouldn't the shorter girl be able to do more pull ups because she's pulling up less weight with shorter arms? This means that she's pulling less weight and has a shorter leverage point. So she would be able to bust out more reps then the taller girl.

  • @FitnessLifeShawn Yes, you're right if we're talking about two girls of the same height to weight ratio because obviously the shorter girl is moving over a shorter distance of up and down compared to the longer arms of a taller girl. Kind of the same thing as short-armed power lifters who have a very strong bench press....less range of motion to cover. It's more of a distance factor than a weight factor.

  • @FitnessLifeShawn Smaller/shorter greaters in general tend to have better strength ratios right? Like with the ants carrying 10x or whatever. Something to do with strength being 2d but mass being 3d I thought.

  • @Truejusticevoice , she's average for a female. I don't know exactly, but I'd say around 5'6" at the tallest. She competes in figure competitions and she's not in the tall class (which is typically 5'8" and over).

  • @nasaguy ......I'd probably have to guess somewhere around 20 (with strict form, full extension and chin over the bar). I've never seen her max out on pull-ups, but I have seen her perform multiple sets of 12-15 with a neutral and overhand grip.

  • @stupidgymshit You just make me doubt about myself against her buddy, is she fitter than me? i can do full range wide grip pull ups for 29 reps max, i also can pull up on a 1cm thick door frame. And i can do muscle ups, can she muscle-up on a straight bar? She is pretty by the way, if she,s your gf you are an accomplished man.

  • @Truejusticevoice....you're definitely a machine and there aren't a whole lot of people that can do 15 full range pull ups, let alone 29. Sarah can't do muscle-ups, so you have her beat on that one. She's not my girlfriend, just a friend that's a beast in the gym. Thanks for your comment, and door-frame pull-ups are the shit!

  • @stupidgymshit Since i'm training on explosive weighted chin ups and pull ups my max endurance got a serious hit, but i don't mind because i'm stronger. You say she doesn't put you on shame, what about you? What's your max at pull ups and chin ups? By the way, you seem to know about doorframe pull ups. A good way to strenghten fingers for that is to do pull ups on middle fingers or just fingers. Can you do middle finger chin ups and pull ups with perfect form? Take care bro, keep up the nice job
