  • WOOOOOOOOW that Epiphone is AWESOME.

Is hard to find videos of someone play jazz with this guitar.

and what is the amp? Sounds really good!

    Congratulations for the great video!!!

  • Thanks for the nice compliment. I love my Epi Emperor Regent model it has such a sweet sound. The amp that I'm using here is a low price amp ($130.00) that I purchased at Sam Ash along time ago, is a Research Lab model. I haven't see this amp models any more.

  • Finally got to this one...heck of a cool rendition of a beautiful popular song...your solos prove to be not only soulful, but also elegant as well. I'll be awaiting your next release on this channel...Salud!

  • Hi Mike, thank you so much for checking my videos, and I'm humble my self to your kind words. It encourage me to try to better my playing. Thank you.

  • nice!!!

does somebody know how to get the instrumental background music please??

  • i think you mightve sold me on this guitar. love the sound

  • Good to hear that. It is a nice guitar, I really love my epi.

    Take care.

  • Like I say, the craftsmanship is there. Some people like the pickup that comes on it, but I prefer the Bartolini or the floating Benedetto. Who says you have to pay $20K for a good quality guitar? If you've got the ca$h fine, but if you're just doing casuals and want a nice guitar jazz sound, go with the Emperor Regent by Epiphone.

  • I do agree with you.

  • I love the craftsmanship of this guitar. On mine(sunburst) I replaced the pickup with a Johnny Smith model Bartolini and put on an ebony bridge rather than the rosewood one that came on it. It was like going from a V W to a Cadillac. I've owned expensive jazz guitars, but this is my main ax. Love the tone. I play it through a Polytone Mini Brute II with light Thomastik flatwound strings.

  • I love this guitar. When I was looking for a archtop guitar, I saw a video clip of a guitarist playing a Emperor Regent. He replaced the pick-up for a Bartolini, just like you did. And the sound was incredible. When I purchased mine I replaced the pick-up for a Benedetto floating pick-up. I even replaced the tuners and took it to a luthier to set the neck of my guitar. Just like you said, it feel like a Cadillac.

Thank you for checking my video.

  • I'm preparing for a show and found your video. Beautiful. Just makes me close my eyes and glide. Buttery tone. Yes, indeed.

  • I'm so glad you like my playing. I'm not a pro but, I just love to play jazz guitar.

Thank you very much. I wish you all the best on you show. I know you will do great.

    Have a bless one!!!

  • Great playing!

    Very nice tone!

  • Thanks for the compliment. Glad you like it.

  • Hi Edwin,

You inspired me to pick up an Emperor Regent today. Reading your comments below are you suggesting you've replaced the floating humbucker that comes stock on the Regent with a Benedetto? If so, which Benedetto does one need to acquire to attempt to duplicate the tone heard in your demo video? I assume you're using flatwounds as well? I've studied jazz piano, but your vids now inspire me to explore guitar. Check out GB's albums 'Body Talk' and 'Bad Benson' if you haven't already. Thx!

  • I'm sorry I didn't answer sooner. I have been very busy. But I'm so glad to hear your nice comment. Emperor Regent is not a Gibson L-5, but is still a great guitar. I love mine. The pick-up that I replaced is a floating pick-up. Which is glue to the pick-guard. Is the only one that comes in black. And yes I use 0.12 flatwounds strings. Thanks for the recomendation of G.B. (I have all his CD's). I wish you all the best in your journey, of getting aboard on the jazz guitar. Go for it!

  • Both Wes Montgomery and George Benson would be proud! Great octave soloing near the end, and musicality. Thanks for the inspiration!

  • Thank you so much for that big compliment. I'm so glad that inspired you.

I hope we keep in touch.

    Have a great day!

  • i can dig it! that groove was all over you. =)

  • Thanks for the kind words.

    Take care.

  • wow that is some tasty stuff lmao that sounds weird but yea man i really enjoyed it im planning to buy a semi hollow but its my first one would u recommend this one?

  • Thank you for the compliment. I love this guitar it feels good and it sound good. I also have a semi-hollow Epiphone model "Sheraton II" and I love that one too.

I changed the pick-up to both guitar. For a Benedetto pick-up's. I do recommend both.

  • very nice, great tone great phrasing , you my friend RULE!!!

  • Thanks for the kind words, I appreciate that.

    Take care.

  • Beautiful playing and tone! I have an Emperor Regent also and was thinking of switching pickups too. Is the pup switch easy to do? How much do the Benedetto's cost? Also what amp were you using for this video?

Keep up the great jazz playing, I'm looking forward to more videos.

    Thanks for some great playing.

    Rich

  • Thanks for the nice comment. I took my guitar to a luthier to change the pick-up. The price is about $150.00. I was using a tube amp.( a cheap one) but on the others videos that Im playing I use a Fender Hot Rod DeVille 212. I saw your videos your excellent guitarist!

  • Thanks for the reply. I will look into the Benedetto pickup. I am also hoping for some more videos of your Emperor Regent!

  • Good luck with the pick-up(their excellent pick-up). Thanks so much for your kind words.

    Take care.

  • @sunriverperson Ive got a gretsch g-400 synchromatic it is fully acoustic and lil more expensive than the emperor and mine is non cutawaybut basicall the same construction, maple and spruce, I put the benedetto pickup onit ,its pure sweetness ,fat and warm tone just beautiful, you should most definatly look into upgrading really brings out the natural acousitic life of an archtop, I love the epiphones Ive played and this guy is a great player

  • @sunriverperson I put the p/u on mine myself had to cut the gretsch pickguard and drill a hole for the jack, I went old school because I wanted one of the old dearmond what they call a "lollypop" that mounts to the pickguard and a bracket that attaches to the strings behind the bridge but these are very expensive and hard to find, so I mounted the benny to the pickguand and wired direct to the jack with no volume or tone(ala Tuck Andress) control but it works fine with no noise

  • i'm another emperor regent''s lover .. very good playin' jazz edwin . very good !

  • Yeah, I'm very happy with my epi, and doesn't hurt your pocket either. Thanks for the compliment brother. Take care bro.

  • Is one able to play modern rock or alternative rock with type of guitar? Or is this strickly a Jazz guitar?

Take care and Merry Christmas Jimmy!!!

  • Very nice and inspirative playing. Are You satisfied with your Guitar? Original pickup?

`Cause, I have Emperor Joe Pass with some modifications (Gibson PAFF pup in neck position), and I just can`t get this beautifull jazzy tone.

    Please, see my videos.

    Cheers from Serbia!

  • Thank you for your kind comment. I am satisfied with my "Emperor Regent"and you right I did replaced the pick-up, for a Benedetto floating pick-up. To me your guitar sound nice.

  • sweet man I enjoyed this great feel and love the sound of that guitar keep on playin

  • Thanks for the compliment, I take it in a humble way, I love this guitar it has that mellow sound that I like.

    God bless you musmin7.

  • wow nice vid!!! do you use flatwound strings?

    I like your sound!!

  • Thank you for your kind words. Yes I do use flatwound strings, I like it because you don't hear the scratchy sound when you move your fingers through the strings.

    Take care.

  • Well done!!!!!!!!!!! What strings are you using? Keep doing this man, it's very nice!

  • Nice job...

  • Thanks man.

  • youre a gent, and a great player bro, oh and my girlfriend loves youre fruit displays!

  • Thanks Danthehorse, and tell your girlfrieand that I said thank you for the compliment.

  • Does it also play well acoustically? Like for Bossa? Im planning to save for one.

  • I think if you play with a band you will need some volume. In my opinion a will not play it without an amp. Thats what I find nice about this guitar it play wonderful with amp. It has that rich mellow sound of the archtop guitar.

  • I know, but I meant if your practicing, or just recording by yourself?

  • I never play with out the amp. But it sound nice with out the amp.

  • jazzyedwin24, what kind of strings do you use? I use Gibson L5 pure nickel wound light strings, but I wanted to know your preference since the strings you are using seem to have a good tone.

  • Definitely the best affordable jazz electric guitar out there. I'm saving up for one.

  • Yes it is affordable, has a beautiful look, and it play nicely. I wish you all the best.

  • Really good man !

  • Thank you, I'm glad you like it. Take care Boudg.

  • Great man. On wich amp do you play? Do you use some special efects?

  • Thank you for the compliment . I'm using a ($i40.00) small amp. I use this amp. for practice and I'm not using any special effects, just the reverb of the amp to add some color to the sound. Take care.
