I think you're very right. I heard also that the reason why you don't see many female comedians on tv is that although women laugh at comedy more than men they laugh much less at female comics than men do. I can't really see how this would be trained, a better explanation would be psycho-biological factors, which I can imagine won't endear me to many feminists.
