We like the fact that in a religion with multiple gods, there are necessarily multiple opinions and points of view. Paganism, ironically, is the religion of a civilised people. Not the black/white view of the monotheist. Our only real gripe with Wiccans is you believe something for which no evidence exists. But you're not pushing it down anyone's throat. :)

it was very much a quick way to be out of a job for a teacher in the pre-cold war era to attempt to teach evolution in the vast majority of the united states.

the government made it part of the school standards to learn, because untill then it wasn't. why? because politicians were afraid of pissing off uber religious people who hated it.
