  • I always wondered if this interesting glitch can be done with other sounds...

  • @charemthecharmeleon Ya, there are probably all kinds of cool new sounds hiding in all these games!!

  • you know that level with the boomerang bros.? i think level 3? it has a hidden red music block at the beginning, sometimes not far ahead of that, i find a green music block, that i cant touch... wtf is it? thumbs up if you've seen it, reply or pm me if you know what it is or why its there!

  • @invisimario Same here.

  • Very interesting video. It's strange how even after decades, people are still finding cool glitches int he old Mario games.

  • Dudududududdudidididi

  • omg, does everyone who makes NES videos press buttons in time to the music? That is the cutest thing ever

  • Did you coinship accidently or on purpose?

  • if i knew how to jump that high by bouncing off of a critter on that game. do you controll how high because i can't figure it out at all. can you tell me or post a video about it.

  • Too bad I'm on World 2...

  • 1 DOWN, 1 UP!

  • love the sound when nabbing a one up xD sounds like a mix between the "puzzle cleared" tune in zelda and the one up tune in this and the other mario games xD

  • According to the "technicalities behind this" thread, the 1up sound is the ending of the powerup sound. So, if you did this to a power-up mushroom, would the 1up sound play after that?

  • Sounds like something bad is going to happen.

  • I just did it on my Wii.

  • Its amazing that it took so long for an explanation for this to be released.

  • Thats pretty sexy. they should have used that for the real tone

  • @OmegaMaxter If they used this for the real tone, then the glitch would produce yet another new tone.

I enjoy very much to find new stuff in my favorite plat-former #smb3 after all these years. Also, the guy seems to be having fun instead of rushing to the end of the level, that's a welcome change in a TAS

  • man your good. I got killed within 25 seconds of playing this.

  • at the end of 1-2 u can do it either :D

  • Did anyone else notice that he not only forced the 1up tune to glitch up, but also the bgm of the second stage?

  • 0:$5 you got a 1-down!

  • it sounds like the puzzle solving thing in zelda

  • @Konnor97 lol thats exactly what I was thinking! I keep expecting the DUN DUUN DUUUUUN when you open a chest and get a object.

  • It's reversed then normal

  • sounds like a goddamn 1-down

  • I could care less about the 1-up glitch, the fact that you played the game in beat with the music made this video worth watching :D

  • Comment removed

  • This actually sounds kinda nice. If there was a 2-up or something like that, this could work nicely as the sound effect for it.

  • I remember doing this once or twice YEARS ago. I'm SO glad I didn't imagine it or something.

  • Hah, would be awesome if Nintendo used this in a future Mario game...

  • This happens to me allllll the time, it's nice to know what exactly goes on inside the game when it happens

  • Wow you can get the coin ship by doing the first level and get 11 coins? I thought it had to be level 4.

  • World 1-4 unlocks the white mushroom house with a P-wing (if you miss no more then 3 coins on the entire level). The coin ship can be unlocked on any level (assuming there's a hammer bros. still on the map).

  • Lvl 4 is mushroom with P wing! XD

  • i did this once accidently like a week ago!

  • @chriskat911 while using kkkzspiu i found it and wonered why? #LOL

  • They should've used this 1-UP jingle instead of the current one. It sounds really cool.

  • Strange! But the sound made is pretty good.

  • I've never seen this before. This is quite funny.

  • I'VE HEARD IT BEFORE! I totally forgot about it from like 20 years ago when I was overseas playing the NES version at my cousin's. It just felt like part of the game, I paid it no mind. I thought it was like a reward for playing well or something.

  • wow, i remember this.

  • it's in 13/8 time, lol.

  • That seems to happen a lot in NES games, when one sound is played in the middle of another sound, the sound gets distorted/extends, like for example, remember on Bubble Bobble if you get killed by the laser guys, some times the death sound effect crosses over the laser sound and it makes a weird noise that can only be described as a "falling" sound effect?

  • I actually found this quite interesting :P

  • That's weird >_>

  • This can happen with other sounds too. I got it to happen with the "hit an empty coin block" sound and the death sound overlapping, thus causing the former sound to stretch out for the length of the death sound.

  • that is hilarious!

  • Wow. I never could get that multi-Goomba 1-up trick in 1-2 down. For some reason I can't get the timing right, nor can I get enough Goombas to spawn.

  • Okay :P what recorder do you use?

  • FCEUX has a "Record AVI" option. No crappy screen recorder necessary :)

  • This is the funniest glitch in video game history!

  • Xkeeper, do you know of any way to get equally good video in a SNES emulator?

  • See an earlier comment... SNES9x-rerecording (tasvideos) has recording-to-AVI support too.

On that note, pretty much every emulator they use has direct-to-AVI recording.

  • Xkeeper0, based off your user image, your a Disgaea Fan:D Disgaea and N1 FTW:D

  • For those curious, extended 1-Up starts at about 0:45.

  • And again later on (in much more, ah, continuous form)

I really should make a better video of this.

  • What screen recorder was used?

  • FCEU(X) has a built-in Record AVI function. This, combined with the ability to record input movies, means you can record an input movie, and then play it back while recording an AVI. Eliminates both playing lag, sound lag, and screen capture lag.

Most re-recording emulators have this feature too.

  • Thanks, can you give the whereabouts of where you got the ROM?

  • I knew I wasn't crazy! This used to happen to me all the time on stage 2 with those goombas... Thank you for showing this.

  • Sounds pretty awesome.

  • thank you for explaining this

  • god thats scary

    =0

  • Yay I've just got it to work twice on my virtual consol version :)

  • its as if it saying "wtf was I doing...oh yeah 1 up, fuckin tail messing me up"

  • Now getting the coin ship in World 1 is something I never knew about. Just get 11 coins and IT appears before your eyes! Even I never knew about that and the weird 1-up sound.

  • Also, the ten's place of your score has to be the same as your coin's. So, for 11 coins, your score has to end in 10, for 22 coins it has to end in 20, and so on.

  • hmmm..........it sounds like in the legend of zelda where if you do a certainsomething it plays a short tune similar to this

  • Xk, thank you for making my video look like a dumb youtube noob video. ;U;

    Faved though. <3

  • 'Technical explanation:

The tail wag sound effect is written (B0), then the 1-UP (40) is ORed, resulting in F0. It writes the wrong "length" for the 1-up, and as it reads bytes in reverse, the beginning is broken instead of the end.'

So what your saying is that the odd part of it was played backwards? As in reversing it would make it sound right?

  • Actually, yeah, I think so. I seem to recall that it's actually the ending of the powerup sound (mushrooms, etc).

It's been to long to go into details, unfortunately. =\

  • What he's saying is that instead of the extension of the sound effect being added onto the end of the sound, it's being added onto the beginning, creating the extra sound at the start.

  • also, i can do that with every sound now, because of FCEultra's debugger.

i made a video of -all- extended sounds.

ill ut a video response here, ok?

  • ive had another extended sound when i was young, i cant remember what... and it also made the some channels in the music to lag... but it was cool.

    Also, thanks for explaining!

  • It plays backwards first! o_0

  • well explained 5 stars

  • lol it does the first 3 note pitches do (i cant remember rest) :p

  • This is the most pointless comment I've ever read.

  • This video proves JXQ isn't crazy XD.

  • Thanks for explaining it!

  • Thank you for this. I've heard this long version once on a real NES, but wasn't able to replicate it.

  • Now if you took out all the unnecessaries of the vid and just got to the good stuff faster. :P

  • that I didn't know about
