Chaykin was the definition of Wolfe, infinitely better than William Conrad, as good as Thayer David. Ditto Hutton for Goodwin, Colin Davis for Fritz, Bill Smitrovich for Cramer. The series would have run out of plots in another three years or so; Stout only wrote so many novels and stories, and some of them wouldn't transfer well to television (i.e. "The Black Mountain"), while others wouldn't stand alone (i.e. "In the Best Families"). Still, a shame it was canceled after only 2 seasons.
"No self respecting Southerner uses instant grits" "ARE YOU SURE ABOUT THOSE 5 MINUTES?!?" I LOVED 'My Cousin Vinny' and thank you both Joe Pesci and the now late Maury Chaykin for two of my favorite lines.
I agree about the Nero Wolfe series. I can't believe they stopped those! They were one of the best series EVER on A&E. Mostly because of the ensemble cast, Timothy Hutton's portrayal of Archie, and Maury Chaykin's of Nero Wolfe. Thankfully they were faithful to the books, although they did add some humorous bits. Rex Stout was a literary marvel.

His scene in "dances with wolves" still makes me uncomfortable. A great actor.

Maury is an amazing actor. And he has played a lot of characters with a bad seed

Now now, I'm sure A&E felt that programming such as "Dog the Bounty Hunter" had more artistic merit. (insert rolleyes smiley here)
I'm still hopefull that some more Wolfe tele-flims can be made, if not for A&E, then maybe Hallmark?

He's been in many movies besides the Wolfe series. Wish they were doing more of the Wolfe series with him and Tim Hutton.
