Saab erieye is a great system. Really really good. so is gripen. Personally i would like sweden to develop its own engine for gripen so export restrictions imposed by USA are taken off of it.

We made the best engines in the world in the late fifties. It was called Dovern and Glan. THey were developed because the englishmen would not give their best. When we showed them what we accomplished they gave us their best for a low cost. They become afraid of us outcompeeting them. The swedish government didnt gave our company who made the best engine permission to proceede. Money under the table its could. Nowadays its to long way to be competetive in this business.

They wont because the options are none except rolls royce or snecma engines but the cost for it would be to big and lost partner GE would cost also because cooperation then is threaten to dissapear in a usual american manner. Rolls is good but snecma isnt to good so why bother. Its your problem not wanting american stuff. Perhaps they bann and burn your ships when you have bought from them before. most probably....

Erieye is a swedish system, developed from scratch in Sweden and then copied by the Chinese in the KJ-200.

dude never mind about copying. we know china leads the world in that but so has usa and other countries copied alot of stuff from other sources. No technology in the world is patent or personal to anyone. Everyone has to compete in their own ways. USA hasn't copied any less.

But, two wrong doesn't make one right and as far as I know, Erieye is 100% developed by us, Sweden, from scratch.

China is a baby nation only about 60 - 65 years old. from the pace of their development, they will eventually develop their very own independent R&D which other countries will copy. Every one needs time. and where it may be somewhat unethical to copy, its not entirely wrong. who invented the nuclear technology first? And how many nations use it now including USA? its not really a talk of right or wrong. its mere competition.

Perhaps China doesn´t have laws prohibiting copy others work, but most countries do. There is also laws against obtaning such technology without paying for it. Actually, Chinas willingness to copy others is working against them, because who wants to invest in a country were there is a big risk that your work, your livelihood will be stolen? For example, GM refused to sell SAAB automobil to Russia/China because of the technology transfer and risk of copies.

The first Aircraft is standing on SAAB in Linköping and it´s soon ready for delivery. The transportversion of SAAB 2000 is already finished. Three more of the Horizons are almost ready. Damn good choise from my point of view. The E3 AWACS (american) is an old system with upgrades, Erieye is presently the best radar in the world

No the B737 Wedgetail is a new radar on an old technique. It´s an L-band radar but so far none of the delievered systems works. To many manufacturers involved. When it works, its a damn good system. But i don´t talk about systems, I only talk about the sensor and presently, there is no sensor in the world who is better than the Erieye. Just think about all the different adaptive modes in it. The wedgetail is a better system than Horizon, but not better sensors...
