Josh's guitar is a Teisco del Rey. Better known as a Fiasco del Rey. These guitars have really microphonic pickups (feedback), and do not stay in tune very well. So If your trying to go out and buy a guitar to sound like Josh Homme, pick one of his other guitars. Because you will be dissapointed. You can get some interesting sounds with them, but to get this sound, takes some work and more gear.

keep in mind you can play almost any song in any tuning if you know your way around the fretboard....but you need to be in the same tuning as the song if you truly want to get the same "tonality" of notes....for instance....playing an E by barring the 12th fret is basically the same notes as barring the 7th fret on the A string...but because the E string is a thicker string....it has a different tone to it....to match the song you have to play the exact tuning and chords

Just to clarify. Josh is playing a modded Teisco Del Ray. The same guitar was on Ebay 3 months back and sold for $900 if my memory serves me. While Teisco's were not of the best quality, they have a great tone. And, Josh is a well paid musician and you can guarantee that ithe guitar was "set up" perfectly.
