  • I wonder if she ever made it to the highschool reunion? Hitch hiking in Northern Brazil. Wow!

  • @EJoplinxx That's sooo cool :O Wow. Did you ever meet her?

  • i love her too much!!!

  • I'm married into this family. My husband is Janis' cousin. It is true, her high school class was terrible to her, luckily ppl treating her ugly only fueled her to rise above. She was from a VERY baptist family, not ripe conditions for a free spirit. :-) Certain Joplin "qualities" run in the family bloodline and I see that magic in my husband.

  • I heard they treated her pretty bad at that class reunion. Treated her terrible. I can't think if she came back to Cavett's show and told him about it but I know she was telling someone what happened and it wasn't a warm 'n' fuzzy experience for her.

  • OMG she had the cutest smile!!

  • In my opinion I don't think Kim Kardashian is that pretty. I rather people like Frances Bean Cobain. She's gorgeous. And I like Janis Joplin as well. So call me weird.

  • @mcdstuff ONLY a million? (laugh)

  • super blues singer five stars+

  • did she make it home, I wonder? she was going back in August...

she was so wistful and real, sort of. we love you Janis...

  • @JimCider lucky

  • love you janic even i know that you did bose

  • Tortured soul. Poor Janis.

  • @astroboirap I don't think she really experienced love. Not the LOVE she desired. So sad. But I know how she felt. To a degree.

  • @astroboirap you wouldn't get that close idiot

  • @denisjl100 and you would?

ps. i wouldnt want to anyway

  • @astroboirap we all have our ghosts. by and large i listen to you tube so i can listen to the music i loved as a kid. janis had a tough life and it reflected in her singing. like many talented artists she turned to drugs. i don't know why they do but they do. that's why i don't judge her, just listen to her music

  • I think RedWolf got it wrong! Janis appears to be have been a victim of the HS bullies and clicks. What I hear her saying here is that she wants to go back to a very unhappy place to face her abusers and say, "No, I wasn't crap, it wasn't OK for you to treat me badly, Besides being hateful to those you don’t understand, what have you all done with your lives? Are you proud of yourselves?" I'll bet it was just another a very painful event for her. I hope before she died she experienced love.

  • @MaryJ363 Well I was talking about good people. Good kind hearted people would fall for her.

  • from the interviews it is pretty obvious to me that janis just wanted amphetamines sex and to spite all who didnt give her atttention by getting as much attention as possible, but jim morrison was some kind of djinn using the doors as a front for a dark agenda

  • Dick Cavett is the mannnnnnnnnnnn!

  • dick cavett looks a real gentleman

  • i heard they had sex look it up on nndb.com

  • I WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU JANIS

  • Looks like WC Fields in drag.

  • Janis wow I rememmber seeing this when I was a kid she was far out and so far ahead of her time.

  • porfavor traduscan esta entrevista siii..porfass me encanta janis joplin

  • I love Janis and she"s funny

  • Comment removed

  • aw man, she was an amazing lady

  • Man! Everytime I watch Janis I think it suxs that she died so young....wish she would have recorded more blues standards, like "St. Louis Blues" or "September in the Rain". Such a loss. When I was a young kid (early/mid 70s) all the cool kids talked like she does, then the vernacular disappeared. What happened to that language and approach to life?

  • so. fuckin. sassy

  • she's got such a great cackle :) love it

  • She is SOOOO stoned. She could barely walk.

  • That comment on her school days back fired as her parents and the town still treated her as she hadn't accomplished anythin she died a few mounths later, she couldn't get over that hump, sad, sad ,sad

  • Dick cavett is exactly what his first name implies.

  • she is so beautiful to me

  • She was crazy

  • She was the Lady Gaga of her time, except comfortable with her gender and talented.

  • This is how you wear feathers in ur hair! Great Janis interview she totally outwits ol Dick Cavett and breaks it down proper

  • JANIS SURVIVED A WORLD OF HATE AND ABUSE ONLY TO SHOWER THAT DESERT WITH LOVE AND SEE WHAT A GARDEN SHE GREW! All she wanted back was 1/1000 of the love she gave.

  • 4:38 FOI QUANDO ELA ENCONTROU O SERGUEI?

  • 4:38 FOI QUANDO ELE ENCONTROU O SERGUEI?

  • She was great and has a good sense of humour. She still lives in peoples hearts including mine. When I was 12 years old I would come home from school and listen to her music, well I'm over 50 now and still like her.

  • Well all i can say to the idiot thatcalled her a loser and freak is she probally made more money it her short career that yu will make in yur entire life yup wat a loser!!!!!!!!

  • YOU TELL 'EM JANIS!

  • I'm going to laugh a lot.

  • What did she say at 5:17?

  • @sirwolfgang she said "thats why i'm going @ 5:17 referring to her reunion.

  • I'll bet her snatch had a rotten smell to it.........

  • @rudemood2011 St00pid hater.

  • @rudemood2011 Why would you make such an asinine statement like that? Grow up asshole!

  • @publicatdamagnificen I'm just stating my opinion. She looks like she just crawled out of a dumpster. She looks like a loser and a freak. I guess that's why she overdosed on drugs

  • @rudemood2011 No.....The reason why she left Texas was because of people like you. No matter how big a ''loser'' someone is, that's no reason to go after them....Just leave them alone!!

  • I heard people were very mean to Janis in high school... I hope she went back and rubbed her success in their noses.

  • SHE'S SO FUCKING CUTE

  • man this brings back a lot of fing fantastic memorys

  • from what i know about janis joplin,SHE'S GAY!

  • @betterinformed actually she was bi-sexual...

  • those shoes are actually back in style now

  • they were such good friends. i love this.

  • このオッサンはどんだけ幸運だったのですか?

    英語圏以外にも会話が解るようにしてくれるとありがたい。

  • Cavett was heads over heels over Janis totally in love with her

  • @carlox1 Who wouldn't be?

  • @carlox1

I'm sure that he was very devastated when she died!

  • That reunion must have been such a triumphant blast for her. "You bitches all made fun of me in high school, and I'm fucking JANIS JOPLIN! SUCKAAAZZZ!"

  • "I worked...once." My kinda girl.

  • 'they laughed me outta class, outta town and outta state man.....so I'm goin home' fucking brilliant!

  • @kowloon89 fuck all those assholes who treated her like a piece of shit!!!! like an outcast......she may have died too young, but she got the last laugh on ALL of them!!.....her name will live on!....she is the goddess of rock n blues and she will NEVER be forgotten!!....and who are they??...lol...that's right...who knows?...hahahahaha PEACE LOVE LIGHT AND RESPECT FOR YOU JANICE!!!!!!! <3<3<3

  • Thank you so much for that. Now I know that JJ was not only the best singer ever, but also a funny girl.

  • It's too bad she could never see herself as many of us do. She did more living in 27 years than many do if they live to be 3 times that...and here we are 4 decades later still appreciating her gifts...what a triumph for her. 8)

  • I LOVE YOU JANIS !

  • this is beautiful. it makes me cry. a soul a head of its time, a soul in pain. we miss you janis joplin!

  • is it just me or isn't she so damn cute and sexy?

    .

She was straight and honest. What man doesn't love that in a woman.

  • 22 people have no soul

  • I have a funny feeling Janis' favorite color was purple.

  • I love Janis, love everything about her.Love her music, style and her character. She was so intelligent and had a beautiful gift with her music. Its a terrible shame all that was cut short.Janis left us way to soon! I'd love being best friends with her. I was born 3 years after she died, which was 1973.

  • I never saw an interview with her either.I like her clothes. I am from Port Arthur too and went to school with her. We ate lunch together but she was three years younger than I was.

  • @minnomouse1 Wow...how does the town feel about her now? Are they proud of the fact she was from there or not so much?

  • I was 10 when I hear Janis the first time. 21 years later she still is my favorite

  • @kitchenfromhell Wait, your negative 43 years old? Sorry, I can't do basic math.

  • @3213422700 i'm 31

  • shes my idol love her so funny and funky man.

  • year?

  • She's so adorable! Haha

  • its ironic that janis spoke about loving thousands of people, yet going home alone....very ironic!

  • back then it was 45 minutes in a hospital - today 2011 it can be upto 3 days - how's that for our more ADVANCED living

  • When I was a teenager, my dad worked the late shift for I could stay up and watch Dick Cavett. I loved his show.

  • o.d. as in overdose.

  • Lyle Tuttle did Paul Stanley's rose tattoo.

  • She never made it. Died from a heroin o.d. at 27.

  • @DoctorLawyerWhatever excuse me but what does o.d. means?

  • @ouija1324 OverDose

  • @JanisJoplin70sGirl thanks from Peru.

  • i heard that when she went to her high scholl reunion she was still teased and that she was really hurt by that. What a bunch of assholes,if this is true. I wish she would have just told them all off.

  • who is the black male artist that wears these similar feathers and boas on his head? he performed at the grammys...

  • whoa how did he make that sound at 1:54? that was intense!

  • heroin is a hell of a drug

  • Janis was and is an absolute GEM. End of story. The BEST singer ever, across all genres ...

  • Great interview....she got to show how sweet and vulnerable she was. That pain expressed in her voice--Mr Cavett really did love her and her work and had her on his show often. Thanks for sharing this along with her performances.

  • Saw this on TV (D Cavett 1968-69)- I was a little girl! I remember thinking she has a deep sadness & trying to hide it. Interesting to watch now-see the same thing-but she looks so young (to me now). I like her music & "just do it" attitude! She died at age 27.

  • Been gone all these years--and here she is through the miracle of tape!!! Such a brash/poetic genius/soul.

  • I am so sorry for the time and culture in which she lived which, understandably destroyed her. My god, they should have loved her more but now I see that they just exploited her. Don't enjoy her pain.

  • man i want to meet someone like her. i want a friend like her

  • He refers to Brazil as if it was a jungle! This was the image he had about my country in 60', 70'. Janis was in Rio de Janeiro(Brazil) in 1970 and enjoyed it.

  • absolute legend!

  • she's so adorable.

  • LOL @ 0:39... "go right ahead".

  • Nice, brings back memories... :)

  • I remeber this interview from back in the day and I love it. Especially the bit about going to her High School Reunion (if I remember rightly she DID go back and rubbed their noses in it.)

  • hahah I can tell your A swinger man by your shoes lol

  • they should make A moive on her life..i am 21 and i wasnt even born when she was at the top.but she is better than any other female artist today by far...

  • @MrKhaos666 they did base a movie on her..its called the rose starring bette midler

  • @MrKhaos666 The movie called *The Rose * with bet Midler is a story that is roughly base on her ...

  • Rachel Welch was interviewed right after her I think.

...and for the record, COCKAMAMIE is Yiddish....

So, don't be a Dick and say you looked it up somewhere.... pfffffft.

  • she was beautiful in a eccentric way.

  • I'am proud to have been part of those days, now everyone wants to try & do it over sorry it is over.

  • Janis died after her high school reuinon

  • I think she died before her high school reunion didn't she?

  • @TheRelger no she actually went ..there is an interview of her of it. it was really sad it almost sounded like she was about to cry when the reporter asked certain questions...

  • @TheRelger No, she died a couple of years after. Sadly she had a horrible time. They treated her like crap

  • @Jvilander Why would she go? Reunion with people who treated her like crap.

  • janis joplin wasn't too pretty, but i fuckin love her, i just wanna have sex with her

  • Dick Cavett is funny.

  • i DONT KNOW WHAT THE DATE WAS ON THIS, BUT i WONDER IF SHE MADE IT BACK TO HER HIGH SCHOOL REUNION. GOD, i HOPE SO!!!

  • "...and on a clear day you can sse Alcatraz" ROFL groucho marx references are always welcome, thanks

  • This clip makes Youtube worthwhile. Dick Cavett was a perfect talk show host. He let his guests be the star instead of hogging the spotlight. A rare talent, one not seen much these days. Janis was a surprise. Never have seen an interview with her before. What a difference. Well spoken and funny. Miss her all the more.. Wonder if she made it to her reunion.

  • @flyingmerkel6

I recall that she did... and it was an utter disaster for her. She showed up expecting to rub her popular success in their faces and they were just as mean to her. It didn't impress them that much in that backwater town, if she'd been a movie star it might have been different.... If she had let bygones be bygones then it would have gone a lot better. She got very depressed because of it. Perhaps she should have not gone in the first place.

  • @flyingmerkel6 does anyone know what song she sang before this interview that she wrote

  • @trmptswan1 she sang "move over" and "Get it while you can"...she was referring to move over in the song!!!

  • damn right! go to your hs reunion and show those assholes what you've done with yourself. you go girl!lol. love janis soo much she was beautiful talented... she was just an all out wonderful woman

  • she looks like young ozzy osbourne

  • Janis is hot wish I was around in the 60's she is awesome love ya Janis

  • @Iaminthecloset You're kidding me right? By Janis Joplin creating the music she did, along with everything else, paved the way for Justin Bieber. Without Janis Joplin music today would not be the same. She is not even comparable to him. She is so much better than he is and has done a ton more than he will ever accomplish or think to accomplish.

  • @misundastoodlyread yeah you're right I'm just trolling

  • God fucking Dick Cavett is such a Square!!

  • @shadowsboico Cavett was the step to bring cool people onto TV back then. He had to be in both worlds.

  • she is very pretty and i never realised she could hav gone into commedy. She has great timing and a good speaking vioce. Dont forget, it was harder 2 get a drop dead outfit in them days

  • thought she was black when i heard her

  • @meletsgetbeautiful "thats why im going"

  • @mrletsgetbeautiful she sais "thats where im going though"

  • what did she whisper at around 5:15

  • @MrLetsgetbeautiful "thats why I'm going"

  • @MrLetsgetbeautiful she says "this man is boring"

  • shhh Jimi Hendrix speaks

  • She was soooooo young! I was too young to appreciate her when she was living, but have come to really get into her music as I've lived a bit.

  • Yeah singers back then had talent today they are all glossy turds!

  • Cavett is the epitome of a dork...

  • if you could do a genealogy test on Janis Joplin and go back a few hundred years ago before her family moved to America , i'm sure you'll find a point in time where her family lineage and Steve crocodile hunter Irwin's family once coincided. probably a couple hundred years ago in England . the resemblance is uncanny

  • @Fo0dStamps by gosh, you are right!!

  • I think Janis was beautiful! And her voice, WOW!

  • (On going back to highschool reunion) hahaha.... ''Well, I don't have that many friends in your highschool class." 'I don't either. I don't either.. hahaha... believe me man. ...it's why I'm going!' hahahaha She's wicked.

  • Janis could never finish building her rocket sled. She always got bumped and jumped by the melting young people, and wore a napkin ring for luck. It didn't as much =, ya know?! Gazelles and ducks shut down in fall, but to be frank, won't you? Help is her zippiest dude dad.

  • I think Amy Winehouse is sort of like the British version of Janis.

  • @jasonnwest

    how creepy a post!

  • @Gooiegoo yep.... it wasn't too hard to see it coming; so sad that they both got cut so short in their lives :(

  • I feel like there was never a more real person then her. The world would be much better if more people were as honest as here.

  • 3:50 cocksucker?

  • SHE IS FEROCIOUS AND I LOVE HER.

  • Comment removed

  • Hard to belive she is in her 20s just ,there is a woman up the road is her double...no offence i try and avoid her cause she is boring and moans al the time about herself:(lol wee story with you there, sorry!!.

  • she is quite a peach lol :)

  • i...love....her.

    my gawd.

  • I love you, Janis!

  • Wow, It seem strange today that he was surprised the tattoo was real.

  • I think she's fucking gorgeous.

  • why's she so short of breath from singing one song?

  • daffy duck!NICE!that's what i want

  • Comment removed

  • nice 37 second applause!

  • im proud to share the same birthday as her

  • to me janis joplin is cute!if i was a guy i back in the 60's i would date her

  • @MeshaDAllen I totaly agree. I was a guy back in the 60s. She had sex appeal to many guys back in the day. So very talented and a inner and outer beauty. If I had the honor, privelage and opportunity, I would have dated her in a heartbeat..

  • @azkiid damn you we're round in the 60's. That must have been something else. Were you into the whole Hippie thing? Are ya still a rocker? I was born around then (73) but that's not the same.

  • @scumgod13 Yes I was around in the 60s. I didn't consider myself a hippie even though I had hair down to my shoulders. Majority of youth in those days weren't what we would have called true hippies. That was media hype. But we for the most part enjoyed the same music , Big Brother and Holding Company ( with Janis Joplin),Jimi Hendrix. Jefferson Airplane, Quicksilver Messenger Service, Cream, Iron Butterfly, and the list goes on. Another lady hot back then was Grace Slick. I still love rock.

  • @azkiid Well, even in my life time we always had so much music to choose from.My mom and stepfather came of age in the 60's. I step dad was kinda a full blown hippie, society drop out what have ya. I got into music in the late 70's as soon as I was old enough to reach the Phonograph. Then the 80's came more great music.I started playing in bout 85 (Bass)I still can't help but think I was born maybe 15 yrs late. What'd ya think when Punk came about?
