I always come back to this music. Maybe because at some point we all wish we had someone in our corner. I know I wish there were someone with the drive, resources, humanity, and ethical morality like BATMAN. Maybe that is why we do not have him. @brivanas I said the vocal arrangement...as in how it sounded. "Lyrics" or not, they don't have to make sense or be actual words for the singing to be beautiful. At any rate, back when this movie came out I didn't even know that...but even now I don't care. It was like the movie was stepping it up in all aspects. I wish modern animation took itself, its story, its characters, and especially its music even half as serious as this series did.

my only issue with the animated series of batman... it has the feel and theme of the tim burton movies, but the characters appear very much as they did in the camp 60s series. I'd much prefer to see batman as he appears in the two Tim Burton films. The other thing I could never quite put my finger on, was the period the series seems to be set in. The art deco designs, vehicles and fashion seem to suggest the 50s, yet we see technology well ahead of it's time. Has anyone else found this?

That was the intention of Bruce Timm. He was influenced by the old 40's Superman cartoon style. That's why he had police blimps, 40's fashion and Art Deco architecture in the series. He wanted a grand feel, and also a gritty one for the night scenes. Though the thing about Batman having a black costume may have been bad for the animation, because it'd be too dark.

I remember when I saw Mask of the Phantasm for the first time a chill went down my spine when I heard the opening theme. It put a tear in my eye and a huge smile on my face. That theme Ruled All. Its better than Danny Elfman's theme and the Dark Knight theme as well; and both of those are excellent.

Phantasm would be THE BEST choice for villian in the next movie. Nobody's ever given a live action shot to this character. It provides a great chance to do something fresh and new while throwing a well deserved nod to this animated movie.
