Not working anymore? I have mac too and when I paste the magnet url thing in open url and click oke there just doesn't happen anything ... Please help?
Magnet Links suck, when u download a magnet link u have 2 download everything in the folder, u cant choose the files u want 2 download, 4 ex: if u want 1 song from an album, u would have 2 download the full album nd any other content inside the folder, on the other hand torrents gave you the choice to choose or unchecked any stuff you didn't want to download, i believe that with magnet links, a lot of assholes are going to be adding virus's and we wont have a choice but to download them
How to encrypt your connection with your peers when you download. In the utorrent client go to options ->preferences -> bittorrent -> set outgoing connection to forced. If the "Allow incoming legacy connections" box is checked then that means that peers without an encrypted connection can connect to you. However, not many people are using an encrypted connection, so for now have it checked. Later on if more people have encrpyted connections it should be okay to have it unchecked.
@TERIN9567 The questions should be tracker vs magnets and with magnet links you have the ability to get rid of the tracker and thereby increase your safety. You still download the torrent, but this time, you don't do it from the website. You do it from other peers in the p2pnetwork. Another good thing is, the magnet link doesn't point at the location from where the file is from, instead it only points at the content. Also, encrypt from your bittorrent client. Magnets is the future.
@TERIN9567 I think so. Can't see why it wouldn't. When I have downloaded my stuff, I then start to seed. At least my upload speed is active and works as it should. Can't give you a step by step technical explanation for why this would work, because I've made a limited amount of research about this issue. But yet again the result is that my upload speed is active after the download has finished. :)

@BionicError At first there's a slow start, because you don't connect to a tracker. Instead it searches for ip adresses that are downloading the same thing as you are downloading in the p2p swarm. That's how DHT works. Once you find and ip adress it automatically uses peer exchange to ask those ip adresses who they are connected to, if they download the same thing as you. Then it goes on as normal.
@BionicError Search for "torrent freak magnet links" and you'll find a result from lifehacker. I search using Duckduckgo instead of google, but it might work on google too. Read that article for more information about this issue. Hopefully that helps.
@kjelle90 thx man, and i only use duckduckgo, because i dont like to be on google-analytics. i have no problems to change my download habits, my only problem was the speed. i have a very strong broadband network and if i can not use the highspeed, it makes no sens for me. BUT i stay tuned. i like and im open for new things, maybe the links i tried were not the most popular. and by the way lifehacker rocks, nice side
@BionicError You're welcome :) Just to clarify, if a magnet link is slow then it's because the file you were trying to download didn't have many seeds or it could also depend on the amount of connections that you allow per torrent. I use 75 connections per torrent and 400 overall and that works great for me. Anyhow magnet links (without trackers) should go faster because you don't have to rely on the websites bandwidth anymore. Another good website is torrentfreak.

@CSMDixie I just switched to Ubuntu yesterday. It comes with Transmission preinstalled. I'd like to know how to remove the trackers before opening a magnet link in it (just like its shown in this video).
