The music composed and played was really good, but the lyrics need work in my opinion. The need for emotional connection thing is in this song too a little. The song is about drowning but it does not bring the emotions associated with drowning at least to me as an audience. With the tone of music what I would do is write the lyrics from the perspective of emotional drowning. Think of the crushing emotions that crash over you like from the betrayal by a close trusted friend.
You may have had that kind of thought when you wrote the song but I did not follow the lyrics very well. Hope you have great success.
