I used to do the 120 mile round trip to go watch him and others race in Mildura, 30 odd years ago, was a small price to pay for world class entertainment.
What a champ! I remember him racing in Australia along with John Boulger , Jim Airey, Phil Crump, Ole Olson & Nigel Boocock. They were superstars back then.
The Galloping Mauger. Six times World Speedway Champion. Perhaps, the "greatest" racer of all time. A bit fortunate to take the World Title in 1972, Ivan was beaten by both Barry Briggs and Ole Olsen. "Fate", however was not on their side that night at Wembley.
yeah and in chch in the museum we have or have had the gold motorbike of his. :) my partner use to be a swinger ( on teh sidecar's) so we attend the meeting's at moorpark in chch next race day is dec 20th. see you all there. :0
