I cooked the beef on a stove pan for about 15 minutes until it was all brown colored. Then added onions and the sauce. Is it bests to use seperate pans when mixing the sauce with the meat? I poured everything into the pan I used to cook the beef.
I need help! I finally made spaghetti w/ meat sauce and everything went right, except the taste was a little harsh. And by that I mean that the meat, after I cooked it, still smelled a little raw/spoiled, as it did when it came in the packaging. It wasn't bad enough to prevent me from eating, but I'm curious as to why that raw smell still lingered on?
I bought the beef from Trader Joe's so I'm not questioning the quality.
@bukakee1 I don't know specifically what happened with the beef. If it had a strange smell when it came out of the package, I wouldn't expect the smell to go away, just from browning it. Of course, it would be safe to eat after it is cooked, but it should taste really great! I hope you have an opportunity to try it again with different ground beef.
Betty, I Will for sure try that; it looks great. Just want to tell you that I AM Italian-American, and there is nothing wrong w/ serving a more American tasting tomato sauce for a nice change. Little kids love it. Even Real Italians make a version of plain old meatsauce, guess where got mine from? Dom DeLouises' mom! Born and bred in Italy. Its very similar to yours and is only seasoned with Thyme. No Italian spices at all. So just keep doing what you are doing! Thanks, Betty. Tess
Do you add Olive Oil to pan before placing the Ground Beef in the pan or do you go ahead and place the Ground Beef in the pan as is? Also, I just wanted to say that I have the EXACT SAME chopper as you have. I don't have a Big Food Processor but I find the mini one just wonderful!
@LisaSMoscow7 Hi Lisa, I do not add any olive or other oil before browning the ground beef. Any drippings that are in the skillet come from the ground beef.
I Would also like to add that I too add Olive Oil and Salt to boiling water when boiling noodles. I find that it gives the noodles flavor and prevent them from sticking to one another, just like you mentioned.
Do you reserve any of the Pasta Water for the sauce? I've never tried it, but I know a few people that like to add 1 cup or 1/2 a cup of the pasta water into their sauce.
@LisaSMoscow7 I don't reserve any of the pasta water for the sauce. I feel like it would "muddy" the sauce a bit. However, I have never tried it, so I might be wrong.
nice video. You cook and explain just the way I would... :D I cldnt help but smile when seeing how you laid out the yummy looking dish in a very similar way I do :) And its made me hungry so Im gonna try this for dinner. Thanx for teaching us how to cook in such a simple manner easy to understand. Bless you.- Tan
@loveryou001 The two dishes taste similar. but they have slight differences. I think you would like them both, so you could just decide whether you want to serve the spaghetti in casserole form or as spaghetti topped with meat sauce.
Trying sphaghetti for the first time. I am from India and found your recipe. I followed with slight modifications. Here is what I did. In 11/2 table spoon of olive oil, i lightly sauted onions and added diced tomatoes, 1 " ginger, and 1 cerrano pepper. Sauted them for another minute or so. Then I added ground lamb and browned it for about 10 minutes. Rest of the recipe was exactly like yours... I sprinked tiny bit of paremesan cheese when i ate. Loved it!
thats sauce for 10 people , y dont like to make that much at one , dont really like to heve left over sauce or pasta , y like to eat different every day:D
Your spaghetti sauce was so tasty. I made the recipe a little different from yours (instead of oregano and basil I used just a dash of italian seasoning and a little extra tomato sauce because I used a thicker meat of 93/7) but it turned out great. :)
Out of curiousity, do you drain your spaghetti in cold water after cooking it? I find the spaghetti less starchy when I do that. I'm not a great cook, but I think it's something worth trying if you haven't done it before. Anyway, thanks. :)
I made spaghetti for dinner tonight, actually. For people with smaller kitchens, if you can find sundried tomatoes and tomato paste in a tube, that works really well and doesn't take up much pantry space. :)
Also, if you can find a garlic press, it's really easy to use and clean and garlic lasts forever. There's something wonderful about fresh garlic. (And fresh herbs, hard to come by unless you grow them, where I am, though...)
This is a good recipe for your! Also, be sure to try Lazy Lasagna and Crazy Eight Can Soup--both are very easy and economical! Thanks for your comment!
Betty I really enjoyed that! My husband and I have two different taste, I love veggies and he loves meat....so I am kinda struggling with different meals. Would you be able to cook short ribs in the crock pot or have different ideas for meals? Thanks! ***5 stars***
