  • 1 MIRION DORRALLDS!!!

  • The prices for the PSP Vita memory cards will drop really fast anyways. How long did the PS3 stay at 599.99? Not very long! I'm sure the prices will drop only few months after launch. It all depends on how well it sells. If the memory cards doesn't sell very well, I'm sure there will be huge price cut!

  • @Patrick19833 My plan is to try to get the First Edition Vita so that I get the overall best deal, stick it out throughout the year with the 4gig card, then get a 32 gig on the following black friday.

  • this is why I come to Youtube. You can't find this stuff on TV

  • Help me.

  • PS VITA 249 us dollars

  • @dkmariolink

At least the PS Vita is priced good.

  • @charvelgtrs

Priced good? Let's dissect this in bullshit vision.

    >$250 - $300 USD for Wifi/3G model, respectively.

    >~$40-50 for the games.

    >~$40 (rumored price) for the "external battery" they'll be offering

    > $30 - $120 (I shit you fucking not) for the PROPRIETARY MEMORY.

    >wanting to have you pay for UMD titles you already own to play on it.

    REASONABLY PRICED YOU SAY? *trollface*

That is a total fabrication. Maybe for the system itself, but for the full experience - it sure as shit isn't.

  • @Eyeolus

Well, you don't really need an external memory card as games will save on the actual game cartridges. $40-50 might seem overpriced for handheld games, but the majority of these games are not going to be simple finger swiping games you find on mobile devices/tablets, but are true console quality games that fall just shy of PS3/Xbox 360 level of graphics.

I don't own any previous PSP software, so I don't have to worry about repurchasing games.

  • @charvelgtrs It's not about whether the games can save to the cartridges, what if they add game installs or even massive DLC? What about all the other content outside of just games? 4GB (if they're even including it) will run out more faster than you think nowadays. Rather than use the recent proprietary format of Sony's (memory stick) they made a new one...for whatever particular reason.

For everybody else who previously owned a PS3 and have a ton of UMDs, they'll have to hold on to it.

  • @Eyeolus Ugh, I meant PSP*

  • @Eyeolus

I agree that those external Sony memory cards are way overpriced. I mean you can get a Sandisk 32GB SD card for like $50.

  • @charvelgtrs No, some of the games (Uncharted is one of them) do require an external memory card

  • Comment removed

  • @charvelgtrs It's because some of the games may have DLC incoming so the space is made for DLC or something like that. I'm not entirely sure what the deal is with that. And I believe those that require an external memory card to save will not run without an external memory card.

  • @Eyeolus

    > ">"

  • @Eyeolus you're not being fair about the UMD program. It's a FRACTION. a FRACTION of the cost of the digital version if you own the UMD, people including you act like you have to pay the full price again which you WOULD have to if not for the program. It's obviously a pay service to keep people from shifting UMDs around to download games from the store for free. At least this way some money is being made. Plus, you're paying for the right to play it on the VITA. It's completely different (cont)

  • Comment removed

  • @Eyeolus you think that's bad? Here in the UK its gonna be £230/£280 for WiFi/3G respectively, which works out at $360/$435 :(

  • @Eyeolus Woah, Son, calm down.

  • @MegaObliterate >implying I wasn't calm.

  • @Eyeolus There's a 3G PS3????????

  • @Uunster My comment was about the PS Vita.

  • @Eyeolus

    1. Price range for games is actually $29.99 - $49.99, with a 50/50 split between $29.99 and $39.99. Only one game is $49.99. In Japan, downloadable games are discounted ~$10.

    2. Why are you mentioning the external battery? The PSP and the 3DS both have about the same battery life as the Vita, with the 3DS coming in a 2.5 hours and Vita at 3.5. The PSP and 3DS also both have external batteries available for purchase.

  • Comment removed

  • @Eyeolus 1. I didn't discredit you, I'm clarifying that if anything, the games are cheaper than they are on my 3DS especially with convenient digital downloads incoming.

    2. This may be my own personal preference, but I've had my PSP for years and got a 3DS at launch. I've never had an occasion when I felt like I needed more than 2 hours of gaming without a charger. I just don't understand why you would mention it with the 3DS and smartphones not having any better battery life.

  • @theshonen8899 1: Lol, no they won't. This is Sony we're talking about. Expect retail games to stay at a firm $39.99 like 3DS titles and perhaps even $49.99 for the premium ones. Also, 3DS has digital downloads too, so I'm not sure what difference is here.

2: And smartphones don't have better battery life? Maybe not during extended gameplay, but that certainly isn't true and you know it.

  • @Eyeolus 1. You don't understand, the prices are already listed on Amazon. Hot Shots, Wipeout, Katamari, Ridge Racer, etc. are all $29.99. 3DS does not have digital downloads for retail games, only small, smartphone style games. Again, I'm not speculating anything, the digital discounts are real and active in Japan. You get ~40% off a retail game like Uncharted if you download it. It'd be weird if it didn't come to America.

    2. Gaming was the subject, gaming was implied.

  • @theshonen8899 Amazon isn't necessarily a reliable indicator of pricing at all. They also tend to be quite generous with "discounts" on all sorts of gaming products. Official prices for NA/EU territories remain unconfirmed for retailers who actually stick to the MSRP. Besides, I browsed around and still noticed $40 price tags about, so if anything the price just fluctuates for whatever reason.

Well, I can't imagine playing a smartphone for such a long period of time just for the games, but ok.

  • @Eyeolus 3. I'm not so sure. Again, the only other anti-piracy method was to completely nuke the digital distribution of big titles and go retail only like Nintendo. That would have been cheaper initially, but Sony's downloadable games are discounted ~$10. Depending on how many games you buy, that adds up to an enormous amount of savings.

  • @theshonen8899 Downloadable retail games will boil down to preference. Personally, I can't imagine downloading some of those huge sized games on the relatively small memory card options they're offering. I plan to get a 4GB one, so that isn't quite going to be my bag. For others who have the money to blow on 32GB, they'll probably do the opposite.

  • @theshonen8899 4: Not a good enough argument. Everything you mentioned were more than defunct products that they had no reason to continue supporting due to being 2 generations old. 3DS plays all DS games (barring the ones that use the second slot) out of the box. Wii did the same thing with Gamecube. PS3 tried, (and failed) to do it with PS2, but PS1 remained supported by it to be fair.

Paying for UMDs for its predecessor is utter nonsense.

  • @Eyeolus 4. N64 -> Gamecube or GBA -> DSi is not two generations old. Again, I don't blame Nintendo, they used a new format when they had to, and so is Sony. I don't want to carry around giant UMDs everywhere, the tiny SD size game cards are excellent.

The Vita (which is 2x more powerful than a $500 iPad 2) is being sold at a loss, their hopes being that they turn a profit with games. Of course its still expensive, but given the hardware it's literally a steal.

  • @theshonen8899 In any case, the fact that my current UMDs force me to keep my PSP to play them is less than ideal. Sure, I don't like the size of the disc either, but there are still titles I wish were able to be played on the Vita instead.

A loss that's unfortunately at the cost of internal memory in 2012 of all years...so I'm not sure what to say about this. The device is powerful for what it's worth alone - sure, but no internal memory in this day and age is unacceptable for most devices.

  • @Eyeolus Back when the Gamecube and PS2 first launched, I never blamed Nintendo for not having an extra slot for an N64 cartridge, even though the PS2 could play PS1 games. I feel no different today now their roles have switched. If I really need to play a PSP game, I at least now have the option to download it on PSN and get a discount with the UMD Passport Program.

  • @theshonen8899 Unless the UMD discount has me spending next to nothing for them, it's still less than ideal and I have to hold onto my current PSP rather than trade it it just to ease up the price on the Vita; which I'll now have to pay in full. The very fact that Uncharted sizes up to 2.7GB tells me I'll be sticking to retail cartridges on this thing.

Hopefully Sony gets the memo that nobody is satisfied with the monopoly placed on these memory cards.

  • @Eyeolus And the downloadable game sizes actually aren't that bad, with Uncharted coming in at 2.7 gb, UMvC at 1.3 gb, and Little Deviants at 0.8 gb. My plan is also to get the 4gb card and play ~2 games at a time until the card prices drop.

  • @Eyeolus

    3. Proprietary memory was used because of the horrible PSP piracy problem. Sony was forced to either completely prevent users from downloading games or go with a secure memory format. I'm not a fan of the proprietary memory either but I blame the pirates.

    4. I don't recall Nintendo giving Gamecube owners discounts to download N64 titles or DSi/3DS owners discounts for GBA titles. The game format has changed, it happens. I don't think it's a big deal.

  • @Eyeolus

I'm pretty sure people who own UMD's have a PSP. Why would you own UMD's but no PSP? and PSP's are cheap now a days.

  • @WhiteFangOfTheLeaf Nice missing the point entirely.

  • @Eyeolus Most PS Vita games are in the $30-40 range at retail and downloadable games will be even cheaper. Games like Escape Plan are only $10. Very few games will actually cost $50. The memory sticks are $20-$100.

PS Vita is definitely worth the price if you ask me. I can't wait to play many great games on it.

  • @daKandiman14 For what it can do, the Vita's price isn't as unreasonable as people make it out to be.

But Sony's business model in relation to this is retarded. What is the point of spending a console price on a handheld, when millions already have PS3's to begin with? Considering the PS3 is already the superior experience, the Vita gives the impression of redundant handheld.

But the memory sticks are terrible. Period. Nothing justifies that shit.

  • @Eyeolus First off it's 30-50 on games. And its 20-100 on memory cards. Price for the external battery hasn't been announced, plus its not even needed. At the cheapest, with a game and mem card, vita is 300$. Stop trolling.

  • @FusionCode Note the date on my comment:

See it now? Good, now shut the fuck up.

  • @Eyeolus Douchebag much? I'm sorry to take you away from your tentacle porn, that's all you have to occupy your free time nowadays.

  • it's $250 now.

  • Sony failed because they made PS3 a Blu Ray player first and game console second. Now Microsoft is neck and neck with, and in some people's estimation ahead of, Sony who once dominated the industry for two generations. Microsoft and Nintendo know this business too well for Sony to ever catch up again.

  • OH MAH EARZ

  • @Patrick19833

The hurt doesn't show, but the pain still grows...

  • @DGTinderbox4lif3 How can the pain still grows if it doesn't cost that much anymore? You should be over it because the PS3 is more affordable now.
