Actually Divine played a loving mother in Polyester-1981 and technically he was also a loving mother in Pink Flamingos-1972. Female Trouble-1974, which I think is one of Waters best films, Divine played a mother from Hell. He was great in that role. RIP Divine, you were a true original.

NO Hairspray is the only movie where he plays a loving mother not Polyester

Yes, but none of the family loved her back in the film.

But her two children ( Dexter and Lu Lu ) both had a change of heart toward her near the end of the movie.

Divne even had sort of a sweet and loving side in the notorious Pink Flamingos. She was sweet an loving to her mother ( the Egg woman ), remember ? There really was more characterization and dimension to some of those earlier rolls he'd played than was criticaly acknowledged.
