    youtube.com/watch?v=jEippUqLL0k

  • The TOMB RAIDER movies sucked big deal !

  • Richard Widmark as Tommy Udo in "Kiss of Death" and Bette Davis as Jane Hudson in "Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?" -- love it, love it, love it, love it!

  • 1:16 - :18 Exploit.

  • They should do another of these soon.

  • Can anyone tell me what the movie is at 1:28? It is the one with the two men shaking hands.

  • @kdoggpolo12 it looked like "stand and deliver"

  • @The032387 It 'was.'

  • Why can't they release this program on DVD????? Such a shame, really.

  • Favorite hero has to be any character Jimmy Stewart played lol

Bette Davis is an amazingly scary Villan in 'what ever happened to baby Jane?'

  • @holyunderwear92 Bette Davis is AMAZING in "What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?" It is truly my favorite film of all time!

  • I have always loved this music!!! Thanks for including Frances McDormand in "Fargo." For Villains (or villainesses) how about Eve Harrington from "All About Eve?"

  • What's the film with the guy shaking hands at 1:29?

  • @cragsby something with Edward James Olmos... "Stand and Deliver" I think?

  • stand and deliver good movie

  • 1:17 Michael Myers should be there, not Jason.

  • tomb raider sucked big time!

  • Why was The Fast and the Furious involved in this montage?

  • @directorofkings and/or Tomb Raider

    WTF!

  • 0:35... that's it! List done! None can beat Dr. Evil...

  • @samwestonc Darth Vader's got the force choke, Dr. Evil doesn't.

  • love the opening montage! ive decided to start a blog about movies (new and old) check it out! it's not got any posts about specific movies yet but it will soon, if you click on my name i think you'll find its listed in y profile.

I want to make it as encompassing as possible so i need people to comment and recommend movies etc

  • WHERE IS ORSON WELLES????????

  • @foka1982 he would have taken up the whole list.

  • Wendy Im home

  • So for every 10 men there's 1 woman?

  • @OzRedBend

Princess Leia, Nurse Ratched, Ellen Ripley, Clarice Starling, Lara Croft, The Wicked Witch of the West, Maleficent, and a few others... Sure, there could be a few more female characters, but I don't think this is particularly bad...

  • I think that car chase montage would have been better suited to the 100 Thrills list.

  • Ralph Fiennes as Goeth is possibly one of the most dispicable villains in cinema history. he played him so well, and he is such a cold character. should be higher. "My name is Maximus Decimus Meridius, commander of the Armies of the North, General of the Felix Legions, loyal servant to the true emperor, Marcus Aurelius. Father to a murdered son, husband to a murdered wife. And I will have my vengeance, in this life or the next." a guy who says something like this should be higher too.

    !

  • where is michael corleone(pacino),angelica houston(the withches)danny de vito(pinguin0???

  • vin diesel?!! WTF IS WRONG WITH YOU AFI PEOPLE DUMB ASSES!

  • Some of those really sucked but i was happy to see a couple in there.

  • anyone know what movie the guy is from at 0:24

  • @pollockdonald LOL xD

  • @pollockdonald West world

  • @awsomeoggy thanks mate

  • I got upset when I heard that Robert De Niro is a villian in Taxi Driver.

  • @GAMER3Productions he's more of an antinhero. but you got to acknowledge his psychotic streak (and implied racial hate). anybody like that could be a threat to humanity.

  • @predlycon I did'nt know, I kinda saw most of it and I kinda did'nt focus on the movie until he save the teenage prostitute played by Jodie Foster in the apartment but I kinda know he was crazy but I did'nt know he had racial hate.

  • @GAMER3Productions i know how you've felt when you saw the character in the list. i was surprised at first, mysef. i mean seemed like a well-meaning guy trying to convince jodie foster to quit prostitution. when i saw it the second time, i realized all this good act was just for his own intentions coz his other two options are out (being part of the society by dating an upstate woman, and destroying society by attempting to assassinate the senator).

  • @predlycon Now I get it, It's kinda like Alex from A Clockwork Orange when he got out of prison a different person but then after that attempt suicade, he was employ to the government and that makes him pretty much back in society but then he sarcastily said "I WAS CURED ALRIGHT" meaning that he is back into his old ways. So Robert De Niro was back in society when he was named a hero for saving Jodie Foster but he's really the bad guy cause of his intentions.

  • @GAMER3Productions Something like that. The way I see it, he wanted to break out of the loneliness he was suffering. He's not really "bad", just an antihero. The reason why he's in the list is probably because of the psychotic (and hostile) tendencies he has.

  • @GAMER3Productions Jodie, his co-star, kind of agreed. Besides he tried to kill an unarmed politician.

  • Nothing with Vin diseal should ever be allowed to be shown with true amazing actors..

  • WHERE/HOW CAN I FIND THE ACTUAL TV SHOWING OF THIS?????

I have looked everywhere and cant find it and now i go to youtube (always a big mistake) and this i found it but oh wait....its just a cock tease....WHAT A SURPRISE!

Can ANYONE say SOMETHING useful/helpful to me to give me even so much as a CLUE on how to find this? Can someone prove to me that the internet is still a somewhat useful tool that a human can use rather than just a place for a bunch of knowitall movie buffs to argue????

  • Why isnt William Wallace (Braveheart) on the heroes list? maybe i missed it?

  • nurse ratchet in my opinion is the EVILEST villian in here. everytime i see her i shake my fist in anger.

  • @bohallor jack torrence is jack nicholson in The Shining. the villain in Psycho is norman bates played by anthony perkins

  • Han, Chewbacca and Luke in "Star Wars: A New Hope" I believe the next film is "The Right Stuff" "The Ghostbusters" Dr. Mckoy, Cpt. Kirk, Lt. Rudy in "Rudy" Norma Rae in "Norma Rae" Rocky in the "Rocky" films Maverick and Iceman in "Top Gun" Roy Hobbs in "The Natural" Mr. Smith in "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington" Marge Gunderson in "Fargo"
  • The final one is Will Kane in "High Noon"

That was fun, thanks. I think I may have seen too many films in my 24 years. I named most of these in under an hour, though I did use wikipedia for the character names.

  • @bohallor

That was me not paying attention (which will happen when you spend and hour pausing and starting a video, scrolling and replying, and changing tabs between here and wikipedia). Both great movies, but I will take Psycho any day. Hitchcock is too good.

  • @bohallor I don't know how to tell you how much I'm grateful for this. Thank You So Much. Wish you Great Luck in Everything you do.

  • Star Wars!!

  • Who is the man at 1:21? If anyone can please let me know I'd really apprecaite it! Also Maleficent is in the montage but not on the countdown. I wonder why lol.

  • @MacNair Hey thanks alot!! I really appreciate it! I hate to be a pain but what movie is it at 1:16 to 1:17? Haha I love the old black and white classics lol.

  • why aint bill the butcher on the list?

  • Who would've thought Dance of the Hours would go so well with this montage. Makes me forget about the dancing hippos.

  • I freakin' LOVED A Clockwork Orange!!!

  • Hell yeah, Malefacent!!! She ownnnnnns. (and so does gregory peck and gary cooper but there's too much win in this video)

  • Where's the rest?

  • Anton Chigurh

    Daniel Plainview

    Tyler Durden

    Hans Landa

    Keyser Soze

    The Joker

(my opinion, give it a couple of decades)

  • @SquareBooth29 technically, verbal kint is in the list. he IS keyser soze.

  • AHH

The Exorcist girl clip scared the fuck out of me.

  • Does anyone know where I can watch this? It hasn't been on TV since I was in middle school. I've been looking for torrents, but to no luck.

  • Go Will Kane!

    High Noon!

  • Hi i have several questions.

1-At 0:47...The Fast and the Furious? Are you kidding me?

2-Which character is after Kevin Costner at 1:02?

3-At 1:17, the kid in the Jason clip, is Corey Feldman?

  • @ arikariri

    1) Probably used it for a match cut and semblance, they do it for all the montages to bridge past and present. I think it is a pretty neat strategy actually.

    2) Foxy Brown, played by Pam Grier.

    3) Yes.

  • thank you.Your answer was right.Thanks!

  • @arikariri It's not The Fast and the Furios, it's xXx.

  • @Fightmaster- I'm sure you like heroes too. Who dosent? But what you wrote reminded me of that line in GoodFellas. What Ray Liotta said about Robert DeNiro. Being this is a vid on movies, I thought it be appropriate. Hell. Darth Vader was always cool to me!

  • He's the kinda guy that roots for the bad guys in the movies...

  • @machokingwwf You're right, I DO like villains a lot! But sometimes I root for cool heroes like Indiana Jones or Batman.

  • @thefightmaster3000 thats what jimmy conway would have said.

  • What's the music? Somebody please tell me!

  • @thefightmaster3000 It's the finale to Ponchielli's Dance of the Hours.

  • terminator's on both the heroes and villains list!

  • only case!wow!finally someone who notes it!

  • now correct me if I'm wrong, the made this list under the guise of greatest screen characters, then why could they count the same character twice, that takes a villian spot from Bill the Butcher or hero spot from some other unlucky bastard.

  • This is pretty cool! Did they compose the music themselves? Truly excellent!

  • #2 is Norman Bates from Psycho.

    GOSH! i love him.

  • who's the person at 0:23?

  • are you talking about James Cagney or Louise Fletcher(Nurse Ratched in One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest)

  • @arikariri im talking about James Cagney.

  • I can't believe Andy Dufresne didn't make the top 50 of the heroes list.

  • look at 1:41 he is there

  • he's in the montage, but not in the top 50 of the heroes list.

  • oh ha, after looking at what you said just figured out I didnt read it right, my bad haha

  • Why are the villains on this list so much cooler than the heroes?

  • What do you mean Top Gun was a bad movie? Top Gun was a GREAT movie. Great story, great acting, awesome music and the action was effective and really captured an audience.

  • Top Gun wasn't a great movie, it was an entertaining movie, but it was not a great movie. The story is more about just showing how awesome the air force is, the characters are all one dimensional, the music is AWESOME and the action is very cheesy as you can see when you have a real plane and a fake one. So, an entertaining movie with great music shouldn't qualify as enough to be in an AFI list in my personal opinion.

  • The story was about how awesome the air force is? What, did you watch the trailer and the two dogfights to form your opinion? The action isn't cheesy, the action is actually pretty legit. The minor characters are one-dimensional - MAYBE. If you had managed to go in with an unbiased eye you would appreciate the movie a lot more.

  • Well, I did watch it unbiased. I actually wanted to like it. I thought to myself "it's about time I check out Top Gun, people are still taking about it so it might at least be entertaining if not a good movie." And you know what? It really wasn't. It wasn't that terrible, but I would never compare it to 2001 or Terminator 2. And that's why it shouldn't be mentioned on this list.

  • Why does AFI insist of mentioning Top Gun? It's such a bad movie.

  • lol epic ive seen like every one of those moviez

  • The thing about Ledger's Joker is that he used Alexander de Large as an inspiration.

  • what is this song called

  • @inari127 it's the finale to Ponchielli's Dance of the Hours

  • thanx dude what a masterpiece

  • the guy that pulls out a big shot gun out of his shirt pocket

  • @paidja Another thing about Ledger's Joker is he didn't hold a candle to Jack Nicholson's

  • afi does great montages. love when Clarice (Foster in Silence of the Lambs) opens the door with the gun drawn. perfect placement.

  • If they redo this, which I`m sure they will, I hope and bet that they`ll include Heath Ledgers` Joker. He did an amazing job, it`s as if he knew it would be his final performance.

  • @PSshadow92 it's not his final performance. Look up the trailer for the Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus. That's his final performance. He actually died mid-filming this so Johnny Depp, Colin Farrell and Jude Law volunteered to fill his role

  • what a pity mr bond lol

  • wait is 1:47 that canadian lady from Fargo?

  • Yeah and how come you got s thumbs down for it?

  • @RawrRobotLuv why the fuck would she be canadian if there's an american flag on her jacket, you buttfuck?!

  • "Wendy, I'm home!" I watch that movie every Halloween... try watching it in a hotel! haha!

  • What is this background music? I recognize it but I can't think of the name.

  • The song is called Dance of the Hours i think but i don't know the composer.

  • i.LOVE. DR. EVIL!!

  • With a Heart,Hornest,hope and Humble

Every body can be a Hero

    Atticus Finch teaching me

you totally deserved this Mr. Finch

    our No1 hero,always

  • they should make an updated one with Heath Ledger's Joker, Anton Chigurgh, Daniel Plainview, Harvey Milk, Christian Bale's Batman, Gollum, and it goes on.

  • I'm not going to say Harvey Milk.

  • Why not?

  • I'll ask it again. WHY NOT? And fuck whoever gave me a thumbs down I did nothing.

  • You have to remember this is the top 100 for ALL TIME, there's a good 100 years of movies to choose from so you can't just fill it with characters from movies a few years old. The whole point of these lists is to measure how far these things spread culturally, so it's simply too soon to tell which stories/characters will continue to resonate and which won't.

That being said, something needs to replace Charlie's Angels. How they made this list, I'll never know.

  • Charlie's Angels did not make the list, it's just on the opening montage. However, I think Dr Evil or the T-1000 should have made the list.

  • Yeah, but Dr. Evil is more of a comedic villain than anything. If this list had been made a few years later, Heath Ledger's Joker and Daniel Plainview would've been on this list for sure.

  • so what if Dr Evil's comedic?

  • I agree, marge gunderson is on the list

  • and anton corbijn from no country for old men

  • @siukong Not all of the characters in the opening montage made the list. Charlie's Angels certainly didn't. I don't think they wanted to give it all away in just 2 minutes.

  • @siukong Thankfully the angels were not directly on the list. They were likely just put there in the montage as something recent and familiar to viewers.

  • ahhh!

    0:16

    alex delarge! <3333333

  • Crazy awesome Bette Davis as Baby Jane in "What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?"!!! Freaks me out every time! Love her to death!

  • BIll the Butcher should have definetely been on the list.

  • He is.

  • he's not on the final list, just shown in this opening video.

  • HAL's gotta be the best villain

  • where can i download the whole thing? i really want to see it ^^

  • from 0:16 to 0:18...Almost Kubrick Section:

    =A Clockwork Orange.

    =Patton, with George C.Scott, from Dr.Strangelove.

    =HAL,from 2001:A Space Oddysey...

  • Who is the guy at 0:17?

(not A Clockwork Orange, but the other one)

  • General George S. Patton.

Movie is simply called "Patton" (1970) starring George C. Scott!
