Ralph Fiennes as Goeth is possibly one of the most dispicable villains in cinema history. he played him so well, and he is such a cold character. should be higher. @GAMER3Productions Something like that. The way I see it, he wanted to break out of the loneliness he was suffering. He's not really "bad", just an antihero. The reason why he's in the list is probably because of the psychotic (and hostile) tendencies he has.

What do you mean Top Gun was a bad movie? Top Gun was a GREAT movie. Great story, great acting, awesome music and the action was effective and really captured an audience.

Top Gun wasn't a great movie, it was an entertaining movie, but it was not a great movie. The story is more about just showing how awesome the air force is, the characters are all one dimensional, the music is AWESOME and the action is very cheesy as you can see when you have a real plane and a fake one. So, an entertaining movie with great music shouldn't qualify as enough to be in an AFI list in my personal opinion.

Well, I did watch it unbiased. I actually wanted to like it. I thought to myself "it's about time I check out Top Gun, people are still taking about it so it might at least be entertaining if not a good movie." And you know what? It really wasn't. It wasn't that terrible, but I would never compare it to 2001 or Terminator 2. And that's why it shouldn't be mentioned on this list.

You have to remember this is the top 100 for ALL TIME, there's a good 100 years of movies to choose from so you can't just fill it with characters from movies a few years old. The whole point of these lists is to measure how far these things spread culturally, so it's simply too soon to tell which stories/characters will continue to resonate and which won't.

That being said, something needs to replace Charlie's Angels. How they made this list, I'll never know.
