In class, we say 'quiet children,' when someone is speaking. As adults, we show the worst possible example of rude, out of control voices rambling. How ironic, indeed.
The behavior exhibited in these videos is reprehensible. I am ashamed. I see nothing more than an uncivilized mob, there is no discussion, logical debate, or any quality that would classify the people both on the stage and especially on the floor as working body of representation. I am disgusted by the complete and utter lack of decorum, courtesy, or simple plain, human decency. God help the children under the care and guidance of these people.
My understanding is that proper protocol and procedure was not followed at this meeting. Dissenting votes were not even counted or heard. Ms. Stewart seems to have done a 180 on her stance here. Makes me wonder if some behind the scenes "strong arming" is going on to cause her to flip flop, with basically no explanation. One day there is no contract and the next day it's a done deal? Makes no sense, and I can understand the frustration of voices that aren't allowed to be heard.
And Chicago teachers wonder why they have trouble maintaining control in their classrooms. Fine example you are for our children. No matter what the contract dispute is about you should be able to conduct yourselves like civilized adults and not the like the children you are in charge of during the day.
I suppose who ever organized the bonfire was also teaching the fecal throwing animals at JFK. Hmmmm where do the kids get it from?
nowpitching...you are judging thousands of teachers based on the actions of a few. Please come to my classroom and lets see how you "maintain control". Usually those that think they have the answers have no practical experience.
mschul, thank you for the response - however confusing it is. First, view the video again. There more than "a few" teachers behaving like cretins. Secondly, I DO HAVE 'practical experience' with managing large groups of children. As for your invitation, let's talk about a consultant fee and I WILL teach you how to maintain control of your classroom.
nowpitching22--A)Do you know how many CPS teachers there are compared to how many are represented on the video? B) I never said I need help "maintaining control" of you my classroom. I was implying that you would be lost--particularly because you seem to think control is what matters. There is something called engaging, meaningful instruction that comes before control. You have far too many assumptions and are probably from Winnetka or some similiar place.
