I'd like to say that Saying no is less of a problem than the traditional smoke and mirrors approach that used to be used.
My dad was raised in a different time than we are now, and back then when he got out of line he was beaten at times, thrown through an old plaster wall and such.
Parent's shouldn't be afraid of saying No to their child, they should have a consequence prepared for certain inevitable actions the child will do. Manuel Labour is a wonderful alt to spanking :P

Ok, just because two black women act a fool doesn't mean every single black woman or man act in the same manner. Generalizing is just stupid. I don't care because I'm not like this at all and I'm black. Although yes, this may shape the way some people look at me, it makes no difference to me, and it shouldn't for anyone else.
These days kids are so disrespectful to adults. It is just not like it use to be when I grew up. We respected all adults. I would get my butt torn up if I disrespected any adults. Parents really need to teach their children to respect adults. This is really sad and I think that the teacher should have responded differently eventhough it can be hard when someone is hitting you in the face. I bet she wish she would have responded differently. It is just not worth it losing her licenses over.
Not all kids are disrespectful to teachers, but I can support your view by saying that I agree that many students should show more respect. I am a student myself (now 18), and if I disrespected a teacher, then my ass would be grass at home. Some of the ways our teachers are treated disgusts me, and it's led to the disrespect of almost all students by adults and faculty. I only ask that students are regarded with dignity as being capable of rational thought, it's difficult sometimes for teachers
Teachers in my day at school, 40 yrs ago, used indiscriminate corporal punishment. This consisted of a custom manufactured leather belt applied to the palms of the hands up to a maixmum of six strokes. Added to this we were slapped, kicked and shoved. Many students, myself included were assaulted in this manner for no apparent reason. I first encountered the leather belt at six years old, four strokes for doodling on a piece of paper. Physical punishment was banned roughly 20 years ago.
Due to this indiscriminate use, the teaching profession in general lost any crediblity and respect from students. Dare any teacher raise a hand [or voice in chastisement] to any student nowadays.
Absolutely agreed! Adult authority and discipline have all but disappeared, with the result that too many kids are completely out of control. I do think a big part of the blame goes to parents who don't take the responsibility and expect someone else to "raise" their kids for them, but the "kids' rights" situation contributes a lot to it. You discipline your kid and he takes you to court?? No!! Absolutely NO!! It altogether destroys parental authority.
Your totally correct. It is sad to see how many kids are doing criminal acts just for the fun of it. They know they are going to get away with it and most of the time they will not even get any jail time for steeling a car for example. We need to rethink how we treat children in the system.
People being afraid to tell their kids "no" and saying that kids have all the rights are two completely different things. I agree completely on the first; parents have willfully given up their responsibility to discipline their spawn. But if it's due to their perception that they have no rights, it is because they are uninformed and just making excuses. Believe me, children could use a much greater share of legal standing than they currently do.
Good point I guess. Maybe it is just parenting but when I hear a child suing their parents over get their face slapped when telling them to F*** off and then winning I wonder. Not that I'm all about slapping your kids face but I've had my share of soap in my mouth when I was a kid. :)
I am also curious for your reaction as a black man. Because I got to thinking, if I were black, I'd be sitting back thinking "Oh shit, here they go again showing two black people acting a fool and it's going to reflect on all of us". What's your thoughts there?
when i was in school, we had to call the teachers 'sir' or 'mam' it was a sign of respect; i cannot believe what teachers have to put up with nowadays. No wonder so many teachers 'snap.' They are pushed and pushed on a daily basis - tryng to do something good in the world and these efforts are frustrated from what is likely a small minority of students.

Amen, generalizing, especially if used improperly, or in a racial situation, is just plain idiotic

As a black man, I am disappointed. It makes me cringe that two black women have to come to blows.
They are both wrong. The adult fighting a teenager. WTF! It saddened me.

Man even I'm more polite and the school system here is so fucked up(sorry) we don't learn anything anymore.
They treat us like total idiots and think we are all mentally retarded.
And why? because I was raised to be polite.
(I still hate the teachers and the principal)
