  • Wow, that was incredible. Even being prepared to "burst in tears.." at the end, I still did. What a great man.

  • APPLAUSE.

  • This guy is a complete Jerk, no wonder people hate USA!

  • @zfonz Troll yonder!

  • Hats off to him! May he rest in peace and harmony.

  • Cancer either makes a person into John Kramer [Jigsaw] or this...

  • @skehlaaj Cancer only forced him to face his own mortality. Technically John Kramer was only a killer because, in a carless selfish action, his unborn baby died.

  • stumbleupon brought me here

  • Thank you Dr. Pausch! Godspeed and God Bless you forever!

  • I'm just hoping the 20 dislikes were an accident.

  • @MegaGoodPie Why? I don't like that he's dying. Maybe that's what they meant when they clicked dislike?

  • Great man. I wish so much he would live longer. What was his definition of healthy diet? Plenty of red meat? Chips (which contain acrylamide)? microwave oven? no herbs?... He used 3 monitors, loved electronic gadgets, carried 2 cells, robbed himself of most precious sleep hours between 22.00-24.00h. He wasn't 'stress-proof'... Hope they'll research how this affected his life. I wonder if he ever followed natural medicine, ayurveda, Five Elements Medicine/Cookery...

  • This may be the most humble man I have ever seen

    God bless you Randy =]

  • This lecture really makes you think a lot of how to live life... You will be remember

  • 20 dislikes? someones a mongy. seriously, would dislike this? he's inspiring, down to earth and good role model!

  • This man deserves to live more than I do.

I wish I could just give him my life.

  • @violetraawr011 Too bad he died back in 2008.

  • This is, what is amazing about the human being ! ! ! ! This guy is just one of the most beautiful people i have been experienced ! ! ! ! Even throught the internet ! May god bless you up there mate !! (sorry for my english, peace )

  • i love this vid

  • 19 people don't know the true meaning of life

  • i agree fun and wonder should never go away....

  • charlie bit my finger 300.000.000. and this 366862 ????????????? i don't get it

  • My favorite quote at around 2:50, "When someone is going to ride you for two hours, they're doing that because they care to make you better"

    Damn straight they care

  • For this man to stand here and give a lecture about dying yet still manages to have the positive outgoing attitude that he has is mindboggling 4 me. After the 1st minute of watching this I immediately felt an emotion that can only be expressed as shame. Here I was worrying about how I was going to come up with my rent & light bill money meanwhile watching this man attempt to speak inspiration and truth into the world knowing his life was soon coming to an end! God works in mysterious ways!

  • I have to really say that I am very inspired by his words and thoughts. For so long in life, it seemed as if we are required to live life by rules of don't do this and don't do that. it's good to see someone who is gone through what he has gone through has lived life of off the beaten path and is truly happy with himself despite his situation. i hope to be as satisfied with my life as he is his and live knowing I always gave my best efforts and that I am happy.

  • It's a shame that there are so few people on this planet with such an optimistic outlook on life. If there were more Randy Paucshs, without a doubt this planet would be infinitely better off. Hell, even a few politicians like him would be an improvement.

  • First off this video is amazing but improper for anyone from an abusive minor background. A great deal of the content could be more harmful to their psyche, without professional assistance on-call, than helpful.

If silicon605 was abused it must not have been serious. If she was able to overcome things then someone loved her enough to help her, it wasn't a solo climb people. Be real. If you don't get help you won't rise and some people are never afforded the chance.

Thankfully I was. I took it.

  • I feel bad.....I am thinking of killing myself...my life has fallen apart from so many different angles....I wish I could have given him the ability to continue on with his life and had his tumors..a stigmata I believe it is in the Catholic church...He is inspiring...I wish he could have lived....maybe I will meet him on the other side....he seemed like a good man

  • @smgri I can almost garuantee someone else is much worst off my love, If u r going thru hell right now its because u r probably on your way 2 something great. I'm not religious at all I feel that most churches don't teach what they should but I can say that I am very spiritual & i was not taught 2 b this way. God will break u down only 2 build u back up, take away the parts of ur life that won't fit in with the life he has planned 4 u, jobs, lovers, friends even family! Give it all 2 him sweety

  • so powerful. this man is so inspirational!

  • Truly inspirational!

  • As he proved again, life is too short to not live it to the fullest. He has just encouraged me more to not give up on my goals in life. I'm going to spend my life trying to make life more enjoyable to my children and hopefully they will do the same. I would also enjoy the rest of my life as I tried.

  • It's people like this which impact each and every one of us. Truly inspiring and motivating. R.I.P Mr Pausch. Gone but never forgotten.

  • Amazing and so inspiring!!!

  • who would dislike this?? Jerks

  • Amazing lesson

  • I got goosebumps at the end

  • 18 people dont have hearts

  • It's disgusting that 18 people would give this a thumbs dumb.

  • How to live your life.... que bueno me gusta mucho

  • Awesome, inspiring, true

  • FML touched wrong button n flagged this vid thx iPod (4 nothin)

P.s. This vid was very inspiring n taught me Somethin cool

  • That last line he said had me welling up. An inspiration.

  • Sad part is that all those crying women in the audience are probably consumer whores and completely hollow.

  • @Jallandhara as much as you are aware of how harmful consumerism is... it doesn't make you better than anyone. your probably sitting there on a macbook your mommy bought and stumbled upon a zeitgeist video and now you think your enlightened.

You did not get much from the lecture clearly. No one is hollow, we are all victim to the same ideologies in society.... if you had it in you to post a negative comment after watching this video... you have a lot to learn my friend.

  • @420smange Swing and a miss.

I'm a PC user, brah. I have been for 25 years. I wasn't aware the lecture covered baseless accusations. What else did you get from the lecture that clearly wasn't included?

  • @Jallandhara

you sound like a dumbass. my point wizzed right by your head! no one is hollow! what this man had to say was beautiful and evoked nothing but happy thoughts from me. I am puzzled as to how you had a negative thought after watching the video. that is all.

  • @420smange

Positive "thoughts"? Thoughts are neither positive, nor negative. What you experienced are emotions.

Having positive emotions does not equal useful, appropriate and/or consistent thoughts.

  • @whatshendrix You think you're really smart, but in reality you're just being dumb. Thoughts may not be in of themselves positive or negative things, but they do carry positive and/or negative connotations-- just as a word does-- that stem from one's own moral standpoint. For example, when someone thinks of a loved one, they equate the abstract picture of that person in their mind to the emotion of happiness, and in doing so give that thought a positive connotation.

  • @IIVSEVENVII

The connotation of "positive thoughts" in the given context would be "positive emotions". Period.

You talk as if you've never heard of CONTEXT. It's apparent that you can think straight, although only for a brief moment every once in a while. A good example of that fact is that you completely ignored the third sentence of my post, which had ALL the relevance to my point, to this video AND the comment I'm responding to. Tell me: what's the connotation of the sentence you ignored?

  • @whatshendrix Actually I didn't ignore your third sentence, I just didn't address it because it in-of itself conveyed negative connotations to me, but I guess I will now that you've brought it up. In a world where good will always triumph over evil in the end, positive emotions and thoughts are absolutely necessary to create truly useful and appropriate ideas, aka, advance the common good of mankind. I think of others first, and i think doing so betters yourself and the world around you. No?

  • @IIVSEVENVII

    1. Being lazy, destructive, abusive, selfish, etc. evokes positive emotions for many people.

    2. On the other hand working hard towards positive goals is very often frustrating, exhausting, painful and negative but it's still worth the trouble and it's of crucial importance to EVERYONE.

So NO! Acting on emotions is just a result of immaturity and stupidity. Emotions should definitely be understood and taken into account, but they SHOULD NEVER have the final say in any action.

  • @IIVSEVENVII

Negative emotions aren't there to ruin your life, they are there to keep you alert and to make you figure out what's wrong. They should NEVER be ignored, they are of equal importance to "advancing the common good of mankind" as you said.

  • @whatshendrix I never said negative emotions should be ignored, I was just pointing out that having positive thoughts is in-fact a useful thing, which you said it was not. I agree with you that negative emotions and thoughts are necessary also, but in my mind, they simply serve to alert you of mistakes that you or someone else has made in life, that can then be corrected with positive, uplifting thoughts. Kind of the whole idea of purging oneself: realize the bad then respond with good.

  • @IIVSEVENVII

And what realization have you made by ignoring my point due to it sounding negative to you?

  • @whatshendrix Well your original point was that positive emotions do not equal useful, appropriate, and/or consistent thoughts, which I disagree with, because in-fact positive emotions and positive thoughts are what have driven some of the world's greatest minds. Ever hear of that guy called Gandhi? You know what drove him? Love; and the feeling of love is a positive emotion, while love itself is a positive thought. So i now realize that your first point was wrong, and it sounded negative.

  • @IIVSEVENVII

True - positive emotions can lead to positive thoughts. That's irrelevant however. Do try to pay more attention please.

"1. Being lazy, destructive, abusive, selfish, etc. evokes positive emotions for many people."

Therefore positive emotions can also lead to inappropriate thoughts, which proves my point that having positive emotions and having appropriate thoughts is not the same thing.

  • 17 people clearly need to have a talking too

  • a true man

  • He's strong!! My problems seem imbarrison !!!

  • What an amazing human being!

  • what would you talk about

    ?

  • Wonder if he ever had imagined tousands of people watching this

  • I have never in my life seen a vdeio so inspiring at a time in life when otherswould be fat on their back wondering how they were going to leave their loved ones behind. He did a great job of making sure that he would always live and be there for them even though he is not there physically. He is truly an inspiration to everyone living or dying. A W E S O M E

  • This is so inspirational. It made me cry. :')

  • @el3m3nthorze it made me cry too!!

  • I cried like a little girl at the end. Life is simple, he understood it and tried to share it with us, and I know that he is in some better place right now...

  • ok i know im on shrooms and every vid on youtube has "how do people dislike this???" but really guys... even if you think he is selfish cmon take a philosophy class we all are.

what it comes down to is that he has this affect on so many people. check the guy out @705 (i dunno how to tag) but THAT is understanding

  • im on mushrooms. you know you are the shit when people like me are watching you

  • Ohh my God. I have never seen a man, standing still, and talking about his soon death, as if it was his friend.

  • This video should be shown to every high school in the country. It is unbelievable, so sad, and so moving. It is sad because it makes you feel like a shitty person because this man is such a good person.

  • It's official: Cancer stinks.

  • This was a very inspiring man.

    lemoos4349

  • This was a very inspiring man.

  • dr. oz in the front row! :O

  • Hehe... Coach Graham rode him.

  • Him dying adds a sort of distinct quality to his presentation.

  • i dont get it, didn't make much sense to me.

  • @sublimeade

Okay well, then keep that to yourself and don't make yourself look an idiot

  • That was a very motivated speech...RIP

  • how can u dislike this that was an amazing speech

  • Thank you Randy Pausch R.I.P I really hope you have a nice after life you at least deserved that

  • FUCK OPRAH AND DR. OZ

  • 2:26 he rode him all practice... :)

  • This dude is amazing, he is really brave in his last moments and cherishes his life, every second of it. If only everyone had his positive outlook on life, and looked past the bad and only at the good the world would be a wonderful life. I wish i could have met him while he was alive. R.I.P.

  • Its like he took every wise phrase, saying, adage, or thought that our parents and grandparents could give us and said it in 10 minutes

  • i hope 13 people who disliked this die douchbags

  • I have read his book and saw this video where I can see him talking...it's really sad because he already passed away. When I was reading the book I was hoping that a miracle would happen but it didn't. Randy has inspired me and thousands of people. I hope that we can follow what he taught because that's what he wanted. Anyways, thank you so much Mr. Randy Pausch

  • this man is extremely inspirational

  • very very very inspiring. i am speechless

  • that man is worthy of aLOT of respect. i learn from him years after his death

  • i had a chance to talk with him in panera bread in oakland truely inspiring

  • I am currently preparing my speech for my first doctoral residency that takes place tomorrow. Like Randy I am not going to be a Doctor that helps people. I read his book the week it happen to come out by total chance. I have to say I was stumped with writers block trying to better understand my motivations for pursing a doctoral degree. Until Randy reminded me of what is really important. My inspiration and source of courage Randy Pausch. Thank you.

  • This was so touching. I'm going to make all of my children watch this. They are 6, 10, and 12. I wish his family the best in coping with the loss of an obviously phenominal human being.

  • it's weird i saw the real one. and his jokes made everyone laugh. barely anyone laughed here at the beginning.

  • HIM, ALTHOUGH HE IS NOW GONE, TRULY A SHAME, BUT THERE ARE VETERANS RIGHT NOW WHOM HAVE NO HOMES TO GO TO AND LIVE ON THE STREET, YET THEY FOUGHT FOR THERE COUNTRY AND ARE BEING IGNORED. OPRAH DOES NOT HAVE A SHOW ON THAT WHERE SHE IS PRO ACTIVE AND TRUL WANTS TO HELP OUT ON A REGULAR BASIS.

IT IS ABOUT RATINGS PEOPLE, SAD BUT TRUE, AND RANDY'S PLIGHT SHOULD NOT OVER SHADOW THE VETERANS WHOM ARE STILL ALIVE AND NEED HELP. DON'T JUST LIVE IN THE MOOMENT OUT OF SYMPATHY BUT BE ACTIVE.

  • @silicon605 dude, seriously?seriously u write all these things upon a long-gone person who actually DID things more than this speech .A speech that was only given in order to motivate and encourage people who unlike you try to find the good side of the life even though they may have experienced bad incidents and behaviors (just like u noticed for example abused women) Because if u only tend to be realistic and you don't believe in your dreams, indeed your life will be nothing but everyday shitness

  • @silicon605 Abnd if you are ignorant enough to poison this page with such a stupid comment, especially in the tone it was written in, then no, you definately do not understand Randy or what the point was to this lecture series. Go watch it again, with an open mind this time, rather than the doom and gloom mood you seem to think and post in.

  • @silicon605 I can say from experience, being an abused child has nothing to do with not "being realistic" in life. I am choosing to turn my life around and making something out of myself rather than sitting at home feeling sorry for my situation. And, although I do experience obstacles, I must say I am doing a mighty fine job at that. ll someone needs is a little bit of hope. So go find yourself some so that you can give it to others as well.

    Peace.

  • @xoxhermajestyxox I wish you the best and the power to make it.

  • @silicon605 I hope one day you discover wisdom and understanding.

  • @theWanghou Oh jesus, I just realized you're a stoner. You don't even register as a human being to me. Go spout your bad poetry and stoner logic elsewhere, loser.

  • FOR THE RECORD, I NEARLY LOST MY LFE 4 X, AND UNDERSTAND RANDY VERY WELL, BUT HIS LECTURE WAS REALLY MORE ABOUT HIS EXPERIENCES PUT FORTH TO OTHER PEOPLE, NOT RESEARCHED THE MANY SUCCESS STORIES FROM PEOPLE WHOM HAVE OVERCOME ADVERSITY. RICK HANSEN, STEVE FONYO (HIS RUN ACROSS CANADA FOR CANCER RESEARCH AND A HOST OF OTHERS.

RANDY IS BUT "ONE OF MANY WHOM WERE AND ARE RIGHT NOW DYING", VISIT A CANCER WARD SOMETIME AND YOU MAY NOT PUT HIM ON SUCH HERO STATUS, AS THEIR ARE MANY WORSE OFF THAN

  • @silicon605 the reason why some might look to Randy as a "hero", as you put it, is because he took the fact the he was dying but was still able to go out and do things and he wanted to make a difference. And not in the "if you have lemons make lemonade" saying because, like you said, there are people out there who atre unable to make better of their lives. hHe just wanted people to stop being hard on themselves and be happy with who they are and what they have.

  • MOST OF WHAT HE SAYS IS TRUE TO FORM, HOWEVER, ONE MUST BE REALISTIC WITH THE DECK OF CARDS ONE HAS BEEN GIVN AT TIMES.

A BATTERED WIFE, AN ABUSED CHILD OR EVEN A PSYCHOGICALLY ABUSED HUSBAND; AS WELL, PEOPLE LIVING IN POVERTY RIGHT IN NORTH AMERICA OR SINGLE MOM"S JUST GETTING BY.

ONE MUST ALSO REALIZE THE MANY DIFFERENT CULTURAL DIFFERENCES OF PEOPLE, AND THE FACT THAT SOME JUST WILL NOT SEE THE FOREST FROM THE TREES.

I DO SEE THE DIFFERENCE, BUT AM ALSO A REALIST NOT A DREAMER.

  • this is a complet copy of randy pausch last lecture

  • @Sackboysworld

Its hard to have a 1 hour lecture on a tv show..especially oprah.

  • @Sackboysworld Thats because it is Randy Pausch's last lecture, just in a condensed form to fi tinto the little air time on television :|

  • Brilliant brilliant man.

  • I have ALS (Lou Gherig's Disease). I watch this and the extended version frequently for inspiration and motivation.

  • Truly inspiring and life changing! I can't imagine his kids not having him as a father while so many scum bags walk this Earth for so long. This guy should be in a History book! My hats off to him and his family, they are the people that keep my faith in humanity when so many others disappoint me. This guy is truly my hero and role model!

  • i feel so bad for this guy

  • whattaaar inspirationn![<3]

  • RIP Tom Cruise. :(

  • @RobotFather Yeah he does look a bit like Tom Cruise actually xD Or, he did :(

  • I listen to this every morning I wake up just to know that I should be living life to the fullest.

  • @joshua13168 Wow, that's a little harsh.

  • @joshua13168 "what a noob....if he belived a god he wouldnt be dead by right now.lol noob"

Randy Pausch was a Unitarian Universalist. Making a statement about someone when you don't have the whole story doesn't prove things about them, it only proves them about you. Randy was a man that cared for his friends, family, coworkers and students more than you can imagine. He reveled in seeing them achieve their highest goals and enjoyed what he saw was his duty, helping people in 3rd world countries.

  • @joshua13168

wow. sooo you're god says its ok to disrepect this man like you just did? twisted man, twisted.

  • excellent!

  • Very inspiring. Respect to this man for giving us a lecture on life itself. RIP, you've helped someone, even though you aren't a doctor whose job is to save lives.

  • Brilliant man. RIP

  • Wow! This was soooo awesome!

  • wow! he's great...:)

  • That God is REAL!!

  • Randy, u r the greatest person in changing the lives of the people, with your wonderful timing, thoughts and energy on the deathbed.Man!! I salute u. Its so unfortunate that we did not get to hear and learn much from you, Life is unfair.. we wanted to hear more from you. Every video of yours is so valuable, hope people respect and maintain it like treasure.
