  • Great video. I saw these guys the same year in Chicago. Blackmore left the stage briefly and traded his white Strat for a sunburst guitar, which he proceeded to destroy in a similar fashion. Awesome show.

  • ritchie used a CHEAP COPY TO SMASH WHEN HE PLAYED 'STAFFORD BINGLEY HALL IN 1981' HOW DO I KNOW THIS, WELL I'VE GOT THE NECK OF SAID GUITAR.......no make of any kind on it...and no i'd never sell it

  • thanks so much for this.those were the days.i dont believe the strats he smashed were for real.when i would watch video closely i think he would switch guitars.also iv heard him talk about how picky he is about guitars, guitar necks, amps weird preamps, that are not really preamps pickups,etc....etc...........I HIGHLY doubt he would smash 1 of his best axes.HENDRIX AND THE WHO......THOSE GUYS SMASHED A MILLION DOLLARS WORH OF STUFF.thanx again.

  • @diagreen Ritchie used Squire Strats to smash up - NOT full strats.

  • @mikegotteri No, Ritchie always smashed original fenders, because he used to buy a lot of Strat, the ones that sounded good were played, the others that he didn't like (sound, neck, fretboard etc) were smashed on stage.

  • @TheBlueLeprechaun The guitars that he used to smash up were cheap japanese copies and if you look closely at the headstock they werent always stratocasters either.

  • @800764 No, he lived in the USA since 1970 and He bought only Fender USA. First of all because he wanted to choose the best guitars to play. The onse he didn't like (from the Fender USA) were smashed on stage.

    And that is all.

Malmsteen buys japanes copies, not Ritchie ahahah!

  • Shrooms???

  • Wow; has it ever got great sound. I assume they put on hey!! What the hell is he doing climbing all over the place and smashing the shit out of a perfectly good Strat. Nice job if you can get it..just make a lot of noise, lay on the floor and smash an expensive 'musical'? instrument. just kiddin'. The asumption here is the rest of the band is wondering what kind of drugs is he on or maybe he's finally lost his mind.

Crawling on the floor? Cmon for fuck sakes.

  • @Starpass You're an idiot.Who cares what you think?is it bloody murder?Maybe if you stopped watching cartoons on here all day and got off your ass you could do something productive instead of complaining and trying to convince everyone else to think like you.Grow up.

  • @shreddingspeedqueen Ritchie Blackmore is my favorite guitarist and Deep Purple Mark ll my favorite band so what the fuck did I say that has you so upset? Ritchie has screwed the rest of the band, and his fans over many times. Sometimes he wouldn't come on stage till he felt like it (Come Hell or High Water) ex. and he seemed to think *if the band doesn't do what I Think they should do then I'll just put on a shitty show; like he has done many times so why don't you fuck off and grow up ur self.

  • Lilly Allen vs Ritchie blckme, I think she wins!

  • if you watch Ritchies guitar smashing on the live in Munich dvd it looks like the audience gets hit! lol i count myself very lucky to have seen Rainbow in 1980 at the Granby Halls in Leicester on the down to Earth tour, and a great deal of guitar smashing went on that night too!

  • that's a seriously good guitar smashing, even by Ritchie's lofty standards

it doesn't look to me like he actually hit that guy, sadly... Ritchie never liked people between him & the audience.

  • I would probably seriously hurt myself by going to far.

  • Some security guard. Looked like he was more concerned with watching Ritchie than he was doing in anything that would remotely be called security.

At any rate, if Ritchie actually DID hit him, it was the guard's own fault. By this time, Ritchie had a rep for being eccentric and engaging in actions that might be described in some courts as "assault". There was the business at the Cal Jam, and also the time he got arrested for merely nudging an abusive guard in the head with his foot.

  • Ritchie are the best...

But honestly I think that he must be drunking on this...

  • 3:37 HAHA!!! RITCHIE IS BADASS! LOL

The security guy should be proud..........

HE IS SMACKED BY RICHIE BLACKMORE!!! =)

  • wow Ritchie attacked him as a madman! I love ritchie

  • LOL!!! Ritchie is the best!!! That stupid bouncer was hanging out in front of Ritchie's guitar smashing thinking he wouldn't get a piece of it?? What an idiot, lol...

  • haha youre damn right man!

  • can't be 1981 and Straight Between The Eyes Tour at the same time because Straight Between The Eyes was released in 1982.

I saw Rainbow live in 1981 and it was the Difficult To Cure Tour...

  • That was one of the coolest things I have ever seen. Ritchie is the best!

  • Awesome! Ritchie rules!

  • I think that this song is "Kill The King"

  • Sure it is. Couldn't hear it properly, but you almost guess the keyboard solo.

  • no that 's not. that s a tune blackmore always played at the end of a gig when he was about to destroy a guitar. same tune as on the video Straight between the eyes when he also destroys his guitar.this was in brussels, I was there, ritchie at first did not want to do an encore but his manager needed some promo for I don't know what reason, so blackmore gave them what they want.. the video stops not showing R turning his guitar on his whammy bar with WIIIIIII... as a result. evrbdy fngrs i ears

  • hey its live between the eyes isn't it?

  • yeap, live between the eyes it was, brussels 1981 !

  • Did you say you were there that night? Did Blackmore get arrested, as at Vienna in '77? He and Ian Gillan are not overly fond of bouncers. :)

  • That Strat was almost live between the eyes of the bouncer in the front row!

  • hahah yea thats true lol

  • I couldn't hear one note but the scene brought back memories. 1976, Rainbow at the Aragon Ballroom on Lawrence Avenue in Chicago. We used to call it "The Stabigon"

  • We also called it the Aragon Brawlroom.

  • super rare- fantastic

  • DAMN BOOTLEG QUALITU. NEED BETTER QUALITY.

The security man got owned, Lawl.

  • it's part of his live antics...it's a calculated risk when he's destroying the guitar...this time maybe he exaggerates a little bit...great RB

  • I think RB needed to take a pill. lol

  • lol why did he attack the security guy

  • Because RB can be an idiot at times.

  • Four years before this incident, in Vienna (Dio & Powell era), Blackmore beat up a bouncer who was hitting a kid (a girl, even!) in the front row. He was arrested for that. Apparently, this bouncer in Brussels had been doing something similar. Ritchie63, below, was there, so he could tell us, perhaps. Ian Gillan has also been known to attack overzealous bouncers - last year, even, in London!

  • lol

i wanna see how he attacks a bouncer cause Blackmore isnt exactly a massive guy

    guess the guitar helps

yea Gillan on the other hand is known to be a good fighter so i hear :)

  • I know what you mean! Blackmore's about 5'10", and 11 stone, but pretty fit. Deceptive, perhaps. As you say, guitars and boots help. :) And the added bonus of the late Cozy Powell, the same size as Blackmore and just as fit.

  • I saw him do this in Wisconsin in 87. Mind blowing.

  • At 3:37... AHAHAHAHA... look out!!!

  • brussels 81, was there

  • well, you don't mess with Ritchie! Great stuff.

  • Marvelous. The one and only.

  • Saw him do this a few times. Always brilliant to watch

  • Jesus, spot the guy whose Mum ignored him as a kid.

  • Oh Ritchie !

    Only Ritchie !

    Master Of Masters !

  • Fantastic man!!! One of the best things i have ever seen !!!
