  • @tyciol there is no trick. if you have a really flexible back you will be able to do it. sooo you first need to get a flexible back before you will be able to do it.

  • Also when you use the string for the standing stretch at the end, you feel that in the lower back? Seems weird, since I thought it was when we rounded our lower back (flexion) that we felt it in the back muscles. When we arch (extension) I thought it stretched the abs/ribs.

  • @tyciol I'm not sure about the technicalities of stretching, but I know that if I work on improving my arch, it helps my back become more flexible. If you're concerned with the string thing, you definitely need to have flexible shoulders in order to do it. If you want to improve shoulder flexibility, do a bridge and try to push your body over your shoulders as far as you can without hurting yourself (push your weight towards your head and keep legs & arms straight). Hope this helped!

  • The motion you do at 0:31 where it's like you have your left shoulder hyperextended and then suddenly it rotates into overhead flexion....

    I don't think most people can do that, lol. That's something I'd like to see you do a tutorial about. When I push into a bridge I usually do it with both arms at once and my arms are by my ears.

    It was almost frightening to watch your shoulder do that, what's teh trick to it?

  • @shek97 It all depends on the size of the people on your team. If you're one of the smaller girls, chances are you'll get a shot at flying. You said that the flyers on your team are really skinny though, which makes me think that you might be one of the stronger girls. As much as I wanted to fly when I was on allstar, I knew that I was a strong base and my coaches needed to use me for that. This might be the same case that you're in. It never hurts to ask your coach though! :)

  • @shek97 heeyy... yeah you defiantly can be a flyer.. IM the same problem as you but im a flyer because i can do a bow an arrow and a scorpion and a scale... and like back hand spring and stuff. if you are good in the air then you can defiantly be a flyer(:

  • @shek97 i've been doing cheer for 4 years, been a flyer for three and this is my first year basing/backspotting. I do occasionally fly with some of the strongest bases on my team, so just don't be afraid to ask some people if they'll base you. You never know, it could turn out great!

    *btw im 5'4 and 101 lbs.

  • @crazyjav101 To stretch your shoulders, do the back bend I'm doing at 0:35. :) Eventually you'll be able to go farther back.

  • I have a question..so im 5"4 and around 107 pounds. Well, in my cheer team..we have a lot of little/short girls ( 70 pounds)..and they are our flyers. Well, I also do rhythmic gymnastics, so im the most flexible and balanced person one my whole squad. I want to be a flyer. can i still be one? Should i ask my coach? but im sorta scared she will just laugh or something. also..how do i ask her? Or maybe I can b one in college, or later in high school?

  • @quinnbeeloved It doesn't hurt to ask. I was a lot like you in the sense that I was one of the most flexible, but lots of other girls were tiny and young. You may be small in real life, but on your team if you're bigger, chances are you'll be basing. I based for 4 years and my coaches let me learn to fly on the side. Now I'm in university and I'm a flyer. If you learn how to fly before you go off to college, you will be more likely to get a spot flying on the team. Good luck!

  • @SianSykesTW I was horrible at bridges before today. Put your feet against a wall so your feet don't slide and then do a normal bridge. Once you get used to a bridge take your feet of the wall. Hope that helps. good luck!

  • @luv2lol234 Once your feet go over your head, push through your hands. Focus all of your arm strength into pushing your palms against the floor. :) That forces your legs to extend more.

    I can do front and back walkovers, and scorpian and backcatch, and I'm really flexible, but for the life of me I can't do a chest stand. I can't seem to get the momentum to get my legs over. Any tips?

  • @nutcase501 Just roll forward and don't get worried about breaking your neck lol. :P If you have a cheese mat/wedge, try doing it down that so that you can grip the edge to prevent yourself from going over too far.
