What an unfortunate crown @ 6:54, and those striped long feathers are plain old Ring-necked pheasant which the white people had not introduced to the new world yet.
those where same people as people in old world.. cant see much diference.. just becouse catholic church never been there before Columbo.. doesnt mean anything.. i can se croses like those in greece, macedonia and everywhere in america too.. swastikas & piramyds also.. big stone balls like in bosnia.. as a metter of fact in Bosnia, Serbia, Macedonia we use term for village - Palanka, which is to me similar as Palenke.. also word for Hell or something so bad as Hell is Pakao, similar to Pakal...
Because alot of effort would have gone into mining, extracting, smelting and forging metals, especially with their level of technology. Thus, it was much quicker and cheaper to just use flint and obsidian, which is also much sharper than most metals (obsidian is used in eye-surgeries today).
@TitanSubZero15 It says in the video, the people owed labor to the king annually. Building structures without metal required more labor which resulted in a more valuable building.
@TitanSubZero15 Can you refer me to an article or paper that says that the Mayans had metal? I'm curious to know b/c I always hear that the were living in the Stone Age, and that gets annoying after a while. Thanks :)
in medieval 2 kingdoms you can be meso american civilations and drive out the europeans u can be aztecs mayans apache tlaxlans tarascans and the chimec tribes and new spain its realy fun
Being a Honduran-American, i admire the Maya people so much there were Super,Super Intelligent,Superior and Brilliant and i at the same time, equally Brutal,Vicious,Ruthless and Savage. They make EVERY SINGLE European "Civilization" get on there Knees and cry
Except that meso-American civilizations grew in a bubble, protecting them from outside influences from other civilizations. Brutal yes, but western civilizations put up with people of the Steppes harrassing them for thousands of years, honing warfare and tech to such a degree that they would be destined to sweep the beauty of the isolated American civs aside. With tech and disease, which shaped the west.
lol you got it totally backwards mate....if europe was in a "bubble" like mesoamerica...it would have never had the things it had...gun powder , compasses from china...number systems from india..architecture influences from egypt and others..etc etc....where as in mesoamerica all the technology and knowledge was home grown...they didnt have the luxury of trading technology and ideas with other civilizations the way the old world civilizations did with each other
What are you talking about? Yes the Maya were great people and ingenious in what they did but they didn't bring all European civilizations to it's knees. In fact, it is very hard for any civilization to compare itself to that of the Greeks for example who laid the foundation for western civilization. And as Lordzeno666 says, they grew in a bubble protect...that's why they flourished so well where as the Greeks were in constant war and expanded to the corners of the known world.
Well, technically after awhile, the Greeks were just slaves and completely subservient to the Romans...and then as usual, the entire history of the civilized world is one empire falling, only to be renewed and revitalized by another newer one.
It could have been around the other way with disease I guess..if conquistadors had brought something nasty back, but euros already put up with much disease & were toughened to much of it.

Something I can't get, the Mayans had metal..METAL!!!! But why didn't they use it?
TitanSubZero15 2 years ago 10
Because in the last segment they said that the more human labor that went into building something, the more value it had to them.

my ancestors just didnt want to.

They probably didn't want to use it. I know iPhones can do more than a basic cell phone, but I like basic cell phones better. Same basic idea.

Absolutely there are similarities. I don't know why your comment got so many thumbs down; people are stupid.
Graham Hancock has a good program detailing these similarities and his theories on why these similarities exist.

thats probably why they didnt have enough knowlege to make iron and other metals. they did make copper tho or was it bronze?
lifes40123 2 years ago
@AdrianLugo18 Adrian you are right. They deserve more merit but they don't since history teaches something else about these cultures.
landovida 1 year ago
@AdrianLugo18 I like what you say. You are absolutely correct, but let's hope that we can seek a path toward reconciliation.
