  • This makes my version sound like slow motion. All I can say is I am astounded and amazed by the shear brilliance and virtuosity of this performance. I cant even think that fast never mind play. Knockers should consider the incredible tone and attack he is getting on every note. It absolutely DOES have pulse and rhythm too. Just like the Chopin studies, they re not all meant to move us to tears, they are to develop technique in a musically stimulating way. This is a very special performance ! !

  • Amazing!!

  • temporadisador :)

  • Is this the tune that influenced the first part of Eugenes Trick Bag?

  • @nazragrasec

no, the tune that reflected that is Paganini's caprice 5

  • Your tone sounds like a banjo... Matt Palmer is better.

  • I am convinced you are one of the greatest

  • i cannot feel the pulse, it seems as if some notes inside the arpeggio's are obscured.

  • Bravo!!!!! the best version on line

  • quite impressive

  • Best perfomance i heard yet of this..And i am trying to..stil got problems just on 140-160 bmn.

  • @ppedalen

yes i play guitar and i play this one

  • Holy Shit!!!!!

  • hate the piece, not the playa!

good job bro, working on this now it's TOUGH

  • Someone had their wheaties this morning

  • Is he wearing slippers?

  • Esta velocidad ya está difícil de superar sin ensuciar la rola. Está bastante respetable la técnica de este compa. Lo que no sé es si el Villalobos la pensaría a tal velocidad...

  • feeling on a Etude? you make me laught.

    etude = study

its amusical piece with one purpose only. study. and in this case is an arpeggio technique etude. the student have to follow only crescendos and diminuendos, or dynamic signals IF the study have it. ( Villas 2nd study appears dont be a case).

  • Brilliantly played

  • what the hell do you know?

  • Do you play the guitar?

  • wow are you dumb? god, people like you make me laugh.

  • My jaw just dropped...

So fast and clean.... Great job =)

  • technically this is VERY impressive but as said before people unfortunatly treat many of heitor's etudes as simply a series of arpegios and excersises. a good example of this is the first etude. these peices are peices and they should be treated as such. there IS in fact much lyrical quallity in many of the etudes and in my opinion they sound far more impressive wen this is taken into account. peace

  • Can you show me some better examples of this piece on you tube?

Just finish the /watch_____ string or private message me.

I'm sick of people talking a bunch of shit about how this guy is lacking. Shoot me the proof. Show me. Enough talk.

  • completely agree, except with this Etude

  • This piece is presented as a study for dexterity - for that it was great. Impeccable. If he wanted to work this as a performance, I would have to agree with the brash, insulting dude. Needs dynamics, and he needs to play with the timing for effect. For solo guitar of the Spanish variety this is required - treat the written page as the jumping off point for expression. But yeah, I can't knock the skill. This guy is a technical monster.

  • caaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarai....eu acheiq ue nunca iria ver uma pessoa tocando isso.

    nota 10

    alias nota 1000000000000

    carai, muito bom cara.

muuuuito muuuuuito bom...Villa-lobos o melhor das américas.

  • good speed dude

  • sorry but it could be a fake, euhm well.. is it?? greetz

  • valla pa la ..... eso es muy pero muy pero muy muy muy muy muy rapido jejeje

  • i'm working on this piece right now and it is a kick in the nuts..this was done as an arpeggio study for dexterity and speed..not everything on youtube is about "playing with feeling" i doubt any one person that commented here can play at that tempo..sure it can feel or sound better by slowing it down to 98-120 bpm but then you are just like anyone else that has this song posted..take it for what it was, and that was impressive

  • @dickiedewar

I saw people in my school playing this at the same speed without mistakes but got rejected though, because there's something called tempo and you must not go above it or under it.it's not a question of challenge.

  • crazy tempo! but no feel

  • You have no feel. This version rocked because it was perfect.

  • If you look back on this video there should be 1 VERY important thing you should notice... The right hand positions doesn't change!! I know it's a technically demanding piece, epsecially at this tempo, but I didn't get any feel from it other than a but of arppeggio's and cleanly sounded notes. Mix up the Dynamics and the colour changes, and use some rubato, then it will be a very solid performance.

Good job, you're 2/3rds the way there.

  • try 90% asswipe

  • He has the notes, he has the fingerings, he needs the colour/finetunings sorted. That's 2/3rd's knob-jockey.

  • No, he has it all! You are an asshole.

  • You probably don't even play guitar. I'm just giving him constructive criticizm between guitarists. I know I'm right, as will many other people (other musicians especially). Conversation over.

  • Conversation NOT over. I have been listening to that piece 20 years now, and I have searched for that specific piece on youtube looking for the most impressive version of it. This guy is one of the best ones I've found. He's better than 2/3rds, because he plays it so flawlessly well. I challenge you to find another video of the same quality (same tune) . I you are just one of those condescending teacher types (I am a teacher) who can't just give praise. 2/3rds..Fuck You

  • You seem to be misreading me. I am impressed at what he has done so far and indeed the notes are flawless, but surely you would agree the notes are only a part of the performance? To clarify my position he has done very well so far but it's not at a concert level - or if it is I would find it a very boring one. There is no dynamics or variation of colours - you can't argue with fact.

    Notes = Perfect

    Fingerings = perfect

    Colours/Dynamics = not there.

    That = 2/3rds. (continued)

  • And he will be able to appropriately express his feelings through this piece once he has obtained the finished product. You say I'm "one of those condescending teacher types" - I merely want them to be able to give everything they have got when they perform and not become lazy and settle for half finished products. I do give compliments and encouragement when it is appropriate - and I have complimented and encouraged this guy who has done well so far - now he needs to push himself and finish it.

  • Not at a concert level? With all those notes, how can there be much color or dynamics? If he played it front of you, I think you´d applaud. Come on, stop being an academic illeterate and just appreciate the experience. If you hate it, then post your version of you playing it and we´ll discuss it. Until then, refrain from harsh judgement. This is as-concert--level-as-it-gets. The guy was playing at home, imagine him in a hall.

  • It looks like I'm not going to convince you whatever I say. This piece is not at concert level. It is metronomic bordering robotic with absolutely no Rubato, there is no change of timbre, color or dynamics throughout the entire piece and there is no phrasing (or any decent enough to pick up on).

That would be a harsh but true review of this video. This is a great foundation for him but it is definitely not finished.

A concert performance would sound something like this: /watch?v=54txdiTofxs

  • well I watched your link and I was surprised at Matt's mistakes, one at 1:22 and the ending at 1:27? something bad happened. He still did a great job.

send more links you think are better than this one. This guy nailed every note. Matt didn't.

I'm not a good enough guitar player to know if this guy really changed his ending like noted in these comments by 31041955

  • Are you crazy, are you even a guitarist? or a musician for that matter? You think because something is hard you have to sacrafice everything that makes it good just to play the notes? Go and rethink your entire view on music.

  • You know what you´re saying. With all those notes, the only expression is speed and power. It´s a "moto perpetuo" which should be pulled off in the most flashy manner. This guy is tremendous. And you´re right; no one plays it better.

  • Noone ****s out fuck you on this site. Stop being a pussy.

  • I also **** ******* *** ****** ***** ****'d

  • Ok , so color / finetunings = 1/3, so color = 1/6? and finetunings 1/6? Where does "feel" fall in this category. Maybe AdabGorilla knows...

Oh btw, sorry for the personal insults. I was wrong about those. I just got emotional about your response.

  • interesante!

  • PQ sera q lá fora as pessoas conhecem mais Villa Lobos do que aqui no Brasil? DE todas as musicas do Villa Lobos q estao postadas no Youtube ninguem aqui do Brasil comenta é quase raro.

Obrigado por ter postado esse Video.

  • ich mag deine hausschuhe mannnn!

  • virtuoso...very nice

  • ¡¡Sos un monstruo !! ¿Que otra cosa se te

    puede decir? ¡¡BRAVO!!

  • great

    5 stars

  • are you animal???

  • What is the fingering on the right hand? Thanx

  • this is how classical music should be played !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • ala verga jaja xD!!

  • Muy buena técnica!!. ¿Que digitación usas?

  • pfffff very fast this is not classical music ths is shredding

  • @asxefv Shreddeing?? He uses the fingers not finger! Do you play yourself?? Proberly not even close to this..You need real talent to do this

  • @ppedalen he doesn't need to play any classic piece. He only needs to appreciate more the classic music, and also, to distinguish the intention of a certain etude

  • uneven

  • this isn't bad. but your tempo fluctuates a lot. its a lack of control. your hitting some of the pull offs way too fast. try watching this and keeping a beat. it won't happen. it sounds good though. its clean. just lack of control.

  • I'm sorry to tell you but the ending is wrong! In the last 2 measures the double harmonics are to be played by doing left hand natural and right hand artificial octave. Now lets see how fast you can go mister 1:10 guy!

  • woow

    with 50 fingers i couldn´t play that

    LOL

  • are you using three or two fingers for your scales? I cant really tell. awesome, by the way.

  • woooooooooooooow.. which planet ??

  • Wow!

  • felicidades uberboricua!!, que dedos tienes!! saludos desde méxico

  • Matt Palmer plays more musically then this guy, but nonetheless awesome

  • awesome!

  • Wooooooww!!!!!!

  • Uberboricua es el mejor!!!

  • He's met his match -

Search youtube for: Matt Palmer Etude #2

    MTSU Guitar Grad

  • The version random mocker listed below wasn't as good as this one

  • lightning fast! :D

  • I disagree with the speed comments. The song had feel, passion and the speed adds to the drama. I wonder if the negative ppl that make the negative comments can actually play anything at all?

  • it's because it has to be an equilibrium between the feeling, the undertanding and the technic in music. Maybe, the intention of the speed comments are to remember that always there will be an equilibrium.

It's only my point of view

(sorry my grammar, I'm learning english)

  • That's one of the hardest pieces I've ever heard even from Villa-Lobos. You nailed it, man.

  • ahahha every geek could see that you have speeded ut that video :P lame

  • Hey! Actually he's playing it. You better start practicing if you want to get even close to this one day! This is an awesome study and i havent even dare just trying reading it yet!

  • Forgot to say that it's in pitch dude so no speed up here :P

  • yuh! bu ne hız ya!

  • Are you a gymnast or a classical guitarist? SLOW DOWN if you want to be the latter!

  • its an etude, dude, he's good

  • Awesome!!! very well done.

  • Manuel Barrueco plays this study so fast but, let say, you should slower it, polish it and try to sustain the musical tension with more continuity (you can be fast but remember: there will be someone faster than you). Anyway: hat off! I am not even able to "think" this study at this speed!!

  • man ... slow it down a little a clear it up ... probably the best recording anyone will hear of it for a while at least ... did you take drugs before you played this? unreal

    Nice

  • wow how old are you dude? :0

  • Hey men, you´re against the time?? maybe you can play that with a Fender and join Malsteem. C´mon, where´s the voices.

  • Tres bien monsieur!

  • Uberboricua... also known as Flash Gordon!

  • do you play the scale passage with 3 fingers on the right hand? It looks that way and I notice that's how you play flight of the bumblebee.

  • sh** man I havnt heard anybody play it that fast!

  • execução muito boa, som muito limpo

    mas este é o estudo n° 1

  • Este é o estudo nº2 de villa-lobos, não está errado.

  • Wow you play that really good. That piece reminds me of carcassi study#20 maybe thats where villa lobos got the idea from.

  • Thank you.

  • Great performance. Do you play the harmonics? You could get more use of dynamics and rallentandos. Only a sugestion

  • Thanks. Yes I'm playing the harmonics (using the first finger). There are lots of things that you could do musically, so maybe once I don't have so much attention on the technique (whenever that will be) I'll be more relaxed.

  • very amazing! very fast!

  • Thanks!

  • Very fluent and powerful. reminds me of the version by fabio zanon. well done.

  • Thank you. I don't know that version, is there a video of it somewhere?
