Still a rocking track, who would have thought it? The Stones still rule. Gotta listen to these older albums again as there is so much good stuff there to be re- discovered.
i agree, a gun toting Keith would frighten any potential terrorists right back to there caves...also who is the girl?, in the video, the one at the end with the guy who looks like C Thomas Howell?
They came back wild in the wildest of times... The clip was (and is) very actual.. I was so young then.. Never imagined these guys would still rock the stage in this century. Altough it's slowly coming to an end. Truly living legends, these guys.
Who ever lived the 80's, truly lived an exiting transition decade in which everything old was said goodbye to and the new was welcomed.. The digital age, as well as a new way of thinking.
@Therealanimale oh bullshit--every decade/every generation is transitional...a lot of the old you think you said good bye to is still around. A lot of what you call a new way of thinking isn't new at all.
This was really a bad ass revival of the greatest rock & roll band alive. I was so young, these guys already had done everything multiple times.. They came back wils in the middle of the wildest of times..
must be so depressing for some kid in the 21st century standing in front of a mirror miming into a hairbrush that every thing has been done and dusted musically decades ago. i wonder what will be the big medium of the 21st century, even with movies, yes now u can create any vision u like with special efx, but all we're going to get from hollywood for the next five years is money ploughed into this 3D gimmick, no innovation there, none in music, somethings going to break, hopefully, but what?
A very much dissed song. Was so out of step with what the Stones had become. I always loved it though. The last time they put their head above the parapet. The video was banned too, not surprised, in the Reagan wet-dream the world had become, and still is today. I remember buying the 12' single of this on vinyl. Bill's bass was so sparingly funked-up. I was screaming for more notes every time I played it. Love the Stones when they're dirty, offensive and.......vital.
I remember this video premiered on MTV right after my family finally got cable. They made such a huge deal about it, it was like the most lavish and intricate video made up to that point. Haven't seen it in probably 25 years... meeeemories!
You have to hear this song while driving any sort of 60's70;s vehicle with a war horse of an engine...one that wont quit, trusty as a gun or a son of one...
@LuneyTune72 : It's not popular because it was too relevant concerning "affairs of state" at the time. I'm sure it freaked out the people who were behind the arms deals at the time. "Hey, what the *%%# are those ^$#holes trying to do?! They're going to blow our cover and *&% up the whole operation!! DON'T let this song out over the airwaves!!" But MTV showed us and TOLD us. God bless them.
The Best Ever!! I remember when this was first aired on MTV! I guess I'm showing my age but the Stones are timeless....there is something for everyone when the Stones come to town.
This song is exceptional musicianship for a band most people don't think of as a musician's band. Slap bass for heaven's sake! An 80's sound but not an 80's cliche.
Always liked this song! We used to play it all the time when I worked in a bar at a hotel. The older barmaid would go over and beat the hell out of the jukebox, until she destroyed the record. It was full of skips. She wasn't a very nice woman!
@randy109 Great video for a standout track. I'm a first-generation Stones fan, and was so pleased to hear and see that in "83 they still outperformed almost every other band out there. Charlie's galloping drum patter propels UNDERCOVER to even greater heights, and they even came up with a nifty video that tells a good story, to boot! Check out the 12" mix, which is even harder!
Se edito en Noviembre de 1983.Esta cancion alcanzo el numero 9 en Estados Unidos,el Album en el puesto 1 en Inglaterra y en Estados Unidos el numero 4.Datos libro Rolling Stones.
Agree Exile, couldn't have said it better. Will add that I'm a bit worried about their silence now...hope the boys are in good health. Undercover is one of my favorite albums. Only a true fan can like Too Much Blood :) Let time be the test.
Stone are like a chameleon changing colors to their surroundings. The club dance thing was a phase of rock for bands that were too good for punk. This song has a good dance beat meant for the cocaine club era. It tided the Stones over and, as usual, their talent shined through. It figures that the Stones would even do disco well and be some of the only disco you like. At's what kept the band alive mates. The ability to adapt and change with the times while preserving their talent and fun.
@MrSixstringjohnny I'm always hoping to! This video was edited in two versions, one CLEAN, the other with the South American violence taking place. I was trying desperately to get the controversial edit before it stopped being broadcast
I remember this video as well. Considering that it took place one year before "Miami Vice," it looked more like a story of the early 1980s in Central America. Bearing in mind, I thought it would have made a great movie whatever premise that Mick Jagger and company had in mind...
you said well...after the glory days. is useless try to save this period of the stones, they play like a band addicted to money and attention. when a fan start talking about the video and not anymore about the song that band it's dead.
LOL, yea. Keith Richards don't have to play fast for no one because he is Keith goddamn Richards. He owns his own island and has his drugs flown to him. Gotta be nice! Great post.
I always have liked this R&R track by this iconic band, it has a killer groove, and of course, Mick's vocals that fits this track like a glove, fantastic 80's R&R track, no doubt about it!!

I always wondered if the bit at the end of the video, where the General comes home to pre-empt the boy's attempts to get it on with his daughter (I always assumed the girl was the General's daughter) was meant to be a homage to Devo's (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction video, where something similiar happens to Mark Mothersbaugh (ie his backseat liason gets interupted by General Boy).
Scenes in this video remind me of "Bring Me The Head Of Alfredo Garcia", especially Mick Jagger with a mustache and a white suit, ala Warren Oates as "Benny".
Elizabeth Pena. She is hot. She was also in the Salvador with James Woods and Jim Belushi, Down and Our in Beverly Hills with Bett Bidler, Nick Knolte and Richard Dryfus and she was the voice of the enemy turned good chick (Mirage or something)in the Incredibles. She was also in Predator.
Dear BLP1261:It's is Elpidia Carrillo. She also appeared in"Predator"(was the girl captured in the guerrilla base)with Uncle Arnie.
This is one of my favourites songs of The Rolling Stones,in part because of the memories it brings me.Back in the day i watched the violent version on RTVE(Spain's public tv).Thinking about the controversy this edit created, nowadays it seems a joke if we take in consideration the level of violence you can get in tv,advertisement, etc.
giallo e nero con un piccolo neo rosa sulla punta del setaccio, con sentimento acuto proveresti anche altre allucinazioni ma non sempre si coglie tutto quando se ne ha la necessità ......comunque buon provamento estenuante bc a.
i remember this video being banned back in 83,although these days it seems apt, keith with a skull mask and a gun, surely he must have liked making this video more then he made out at the time.
great i think you guys owe it to the world to keep this music alive for the next generation and the one after that, what a great way to remember a great band!

Greets.

Just how much was the audio sped up for this mix?
I remember when this was released, scratching my head because it wasn't "Start Me Up Part II".

i remember this video being banned back in 83,although these days it seems apt, keith with a skull mask and a gun, surely he must have liked making this video more then he made out at the time.

there was a live "b" side of this song that was amazing. My local Pizza Hut had it on the jukebox. But I have not found it again for years.
