The entire vintage modified line has thoroughly impressed me. I blind tested three jazz basses; A squier vintage modified jazz, a squire affinity jazz, and a fender american jazz. I liked the vintage modified better than the other two. The affinity series sounded like trash, and the american fender just sounded sterile. Squier's giving Fender a run for their money.
wow !!! trying a squier fretless j-bass with a jaco song, now that's a great idea, and the sound is absolutely superb knowing the price of the bass ^_^
this squire is perfectly decent..not great but decent..its 300 for 600 fender makes a mexican made jazz bass...after that the prices go way up...I know rogue guitars makes a even cheaper bass for over 100 but really the squire is a happy medium as you can easily upgrade the parts over time and have a very good bass
this one seems pretty good to me. I played one in guitar center a couple of weeks ago, the fingerboard is made of ebonol (synthetic ebony) more durable than rosewood. and the lines I found very convenient for intonating. And it was very cheap for how good it was. I'd say if your into fretless, go for this one.
@Vaughnrush lol yeah good song....if they played music in my guitar center idcouldnt like play what hes playing id start playing along with nirvana lol
Nope! It's a squire vintage modified fretless! Sounds good don't it! Squire's VM series is REALLY good for the price, this one is usually only $299.00.
Duncan designed single coil, much like the Squier Vintage Modified Jazz Bass (fretted). This is a nice bass for the price, but the neck marks up pretty easily. He nicely showcases the tone in this video!
sweet .........i have a 1960 fretless fender jazz as well as a 1960 fender precision, and THEY---------->>>>>>>R.O.C.K.!!!~ love your playing dude!.keep up da good work!~
For the price, I love the Squier VMF! The one I have doesn't seem to have the noisy pickup problem, but I'm not complaining. I'm not going to claim that the Squier will play as nice as a Pedulla Buzz, but if you get your hands on a nicer one they can be excellent little basses. Usually the necks are consistent among the various VMF's I've played, but the pickups can range from crappy to pretty good. All in all, I dig my Squier, and it'll be a cold day in Hell before I get rid of it!
I can agree with some comments stating that the electronics make for some noisy, almost grungy sounding noises when playing..but if you like this kind of sound..it is perfect. Got a year of playing behind one of these and it was well worth the buy.
I got this bass over a year ago. Put some flatwounds on it and set the action a bit lower. It sounded ok at first, but then with time, I realized that the electronics just suck. They are extremely noisy. You won't hear that on the vids I've posted, but "Duncan Design" pickups just won't do it. I don't think I could ever use it for serious recording or gigging. It fulfills the purpose for some home jamming, But that's all it is for me.
Mine is not noisy or grungy sounding (unless I want it to be). Playing light with both pickups produces a nice clean full sound while using the bridge pickup only and plucking a little harder produces a nice fretless "growl".
@tbcass Thats what I was wondering. Most of the vids demoing this bass sound really noisy/grungy, but most are playing very aggressively which would priduce that sound on most basses. I need to know if its the pickups or just over aggressive style of play that producing all that noise? I'm think of buying one, but not sure because of this. Thanks
Is it common for aussies to call everybody idiots ? I know a pussy like you from the big island, he's very amusing. You people can't sense the irony, even this obvious one - probably 'cause you carry the penal colony genes. BTW, didn't your government try to censor the internet some time ago ?
he called you an idiot cause to bass players its quite common to see this. im guessing your not a bass player cause you didnt know that. btw even know its a squire bass, is it still worth buying?
'You people can't sense the irony, even this obvious one' - isn't that sentence enough ? Damn, you just can't joke aroud anymore. Yes, I'm a bass player, and a decent one... This one's worth buying, trust me, though my first guitar was Squier Standard Precision Bass and it's a disappointing one for me.

gunlover19112 1 year ago
@gunlover19112 it is, the lines are inlays in the position of the frets to aid in finding the note.

No pickguard on purpose, just like Jaco's - that's what Fender / Squier was emulating with this bass...

the reason why the neck marks up pretty easily is probably the case when you use roundwouns in stead of flatwounds.
with flatwounds it lasts much longer

Any chance you could showcase an Ibanez SR300F fretless bass?
And/or if possible, an Ibanez Gary Willis Signature GWB35 Fretless bass?
Thanksss

Hmm... It's supposed to be a fretless version ? Why does it have frets then ?

They're just drawn on the neck, you idiot. There's no physical separation of the frets.
