  • nice video thanks for sharing very interesting .. god bless

  • Thats Childs play!!! My Octopus play the banjo........self taught!!!! I would make a video but we don't like to show off.

  • I've seen octopi using coconut shells, opening jars, "playing" with cameras, going into bottles, and even using a jet of water to short out a light that was bothering it.

    Hmm I wonder...

If someone were to put a large jar with a lid and a crab inside, and then leave the jar in there would it move into the jar and start closing the lid while it was inside for protection?

  • octopies are not stuppidd

  • i wasted 1 : 38 of my like but it was nice poor crab

  • many animals have failed this intelligence test, even some mammals.

  • Clever Violet - there's nothing stupid about this girl :-)

  • my mom' s name is Violet too!

  • she's awsome ima go see her

  • Violet is so adorable!

  • LoL the Octopus was like "No nature, you put YOUR hands up!"

  • Violet is beautiful, I wouldnt use a glass jar though.

  • wait wait where can u ger an octopus? i want one:)

  • steal one from an aquarium

  • Try your local Asian grocery.

  • La persona que ha colgado este video es un autentico caranabo!

  • Cute xD

  • Aw!!!! What a cute lil girl!!! I wish I had an Octopus!!!! I didn't know some could be so small!!!

  • 4 years????...you'd be lucky to keep it for 2 years

  • I bet hes starting to get irritated and probably thinkin "why do you keep putting my damn food in a jar!?"

  • The music is fitting.

  • cooooool

  • he got a toy :3

  • that animal much much more intelligent than some humans

  • vamos a ver...quien es mas estupido un puto pulpo o el subnormal que esta intentando desprestigiar a un puto cefalopodo con una musiquita como si se tratara del puto charlot

  • thats not stupid, thats real skill

  • Love the footage, hate the title. :(

    Nothing stupid!

  • Go Violet! I love cephalopods.

    Thanks for sharing.

  • rated!!!

  • I like it

  • what kind of octopus is this?

  • Common Atlantic octopus. O. vulgaris

  • It really is remarkable how intelligent these creatures are!

  • not quite what we were after eh amy ....

  • why would this be stupid

  • what is this music called

  • did u use a screw or did u just tighten the camp?

  • pickels anyone

  • That music is Just Perfect. Go Violet!

  • how long does this species live?

  • probably a year or two

  • It's sad really, as they're so intelligent, but all octopuses can only live up to 4 yrs max.

  • Octapi are smarter than cats, and can escape through any hole the size of their beak. and will climb your book shelves and such. Most of the time they will make it back to the cage. but some don't and die, so if planning to get a small octopus secure even the smallest holes on top.

  • I totally want one of those. How do you get it to stay in a tank?

  • Through lots of effort and planning :D

  • after seeing all these videos I really want a pet Octopus

  • Octopus and cuttlefish are undoubtedly the smartest non-mammal organism known today.

  • dont forget to include the squid. they are smart too

  • she has a very good camoflage

  • :D nice bottle-opener.

  • Do you pet it?

  • i want a pet octopus too!!! plz tell us

  • very cool how do you keep him in a tank without escaping

  • If they're comfortable they probably won't try to escape..otherwise you better have a tightly sealed tank =P

  • You pretty much have to use complex locks, or else they'll sneak out at night and eat the other fish.

I'm not joking. They really are that bored.

  • where can i get a pet octopus?!

  • aww hi octupus nice to meet you i say you are very talented ^^

  • There's nothing stupid about that trick!

  • i agree this trick is cool!!

  • i want one.

  • HHMMMM looks very delicius!

  • lol i want this tune hahaha

  • She has pretty eyes.

  • i like the music

  • ... and because octopuses don't have backbones (ie are invertibrates) you don't need a licence to experiment on them! Doesn't seem fair somehow.

  • They are considered honorary vertebra, so you do need a licence and they have to be under anesthesia if operated on.

  • ur right

  • It's Octopi.

  • Darn it, not where I wanted this comment to go. Dx

I love these creatures! SO smart!

  • Octopuses is the Oxford English Dictionary recommended plural, or indeed, rarely, pedantically, octopodes.

Octopi, whilst also acceptable to the OED as it is in common usage, derives from the mistaken assumption that octopus is from a second declension Latin noun, which it is not. It is actually Latinized Greek - if it were Latin it would be Octopes/Octopedes (like centipedes and millipedes).

But that aside, they are wonderful creatures :-)

  • Not mistaken assumption, origonally the singular was octopod (which is where octopodes comes from) making octopi the plural.

  • Octopod would not make octopi the plural; pod is greek for foot, pi is a latin suffix for plural "-us" words. wtf are you talking about lol

  • octopodes and octopuses are acceptable plural forms, but not octopi, the word is originally Greek not Latin, and cannot be conjugated like a Latin word. I'm bored now, I'm going exside.

  • It's Octopuses ^_^

  • Tomatoe, Tomatoe, Potatoe, Potatoe.

  • is that your octo?

  • Make the octo put back the crab and put the lid on.

  • I found this enjoyable; it's a saver

  • JUST AS stephen colbert thinks! WE NEED TO STOP THEESE SEA CREATURES AND SHOW THEM WHOOSE BOSS! JUST LOOK! A SHRIMP IS RUNNING ON A TREADMILL GETTING READY TO RUN UP OUR BORDERS!

  • Violet is amazing, as are all of her kind!

  • It's cool how these creatures can do much of what we can do :D

  • Sweet. Now make her put the lid back on.

    ;)

  • hahaha poor crab

  • Awesome! Thank you.

  • The future forerunners of civilized species.

  • I see you've seen "The Future Is Wild" :)

  • Well I have seen that but I always believed that to be true even before I saw that.

  • Yes, and he will evolve into a master comedian who will be influenced by Mitch Hedberg

  • I've always hears that octopi are very smart. Thanks for the incredible video!

  • A small frozen crab. Her favorite food.

  • how long did it take for you to teach her this?

  • About an hour.

  • oh dang. thats pretty cool

  • I'm sorry this is 8 months+. XD But how DO you teach her how to open it? Do you open it infront of her or does she just figure it out on her own?

  • The best way seam to be to start with the lid just sitting on the jar and then each time you fead it turn the lid a little more on then last time.

  • What was in the jar and why did she want to open it?

  • Nice Soundtrack!

  • I want one!
