I'm sure they would, they know everything he does is satirical humour. The movie is him poking fun at homophobes, not gay people. If Bruno wasn't over the top people wouldn't care he was gay. The whole point of the movie is showing that when a gay person embraces their sexuality to a certain extreme, people are made uncomfortable. If a single gay person laughed at Borat, showing how people react to foreign culture (even inaccurately being portrayed) then they're hypocritical not to laugh at this

The character used to be more funny on his TV show, a few years back - this is in my opinion, obviously. In this film he tries to make the gayness funny, whereas the original use of the the character was to poke fun at the shallowness and bitchiness of celebrity and fashion - for me, the latter worked better.
