  • Oh, I see that the sony cd player is from 1985. Nice video.

  • That's a nice early Sony CD player. About what year is is from?

  • wow very clean sound and love your equipment

  • which camcorder do you use, and can you plug the cd str8 into the cam to get such good sound?

  • It is a Sony Digital8 camcorder from 1999, model DCR-TRV103. You need to use an attenuator (or "T-pad") to record a line level audio source through its microphone jack, or else it will overdrive the input.

  • What dollar store did you get this CD from?

  • I forgot the name, but it's next to the Wal-Mart in South Plainfield, NJ. It's not part of a chain.

  • That kenwood amp looks badass :D

  • It was actually the lowest end of Kenwood's lineup in 1980, with only 28 watts per channel, although it does sound nice and has a very good FM tuner.

  • A shame that these cheapie budget CD's didn't credit the musicians. This is great sounding stuff!

  • Yeah I love that camera data display. I calibrated the manual exposure scale (the slider that displays in the upper left, the actual F-stop is not displayed in camera mode) on mine by making marks on a piece of tape in that corner. Unfortunately the dynamic range isn't very good and if you set it to anything other than the auto-selected aperture you run the risk of crushing the blacks or over-exposing the highlights. Oh well, that's the reason I have a Super-8 camera.

  • The drummer was really cookin'! And that Kenwood receiver really sounds good too!

  • Actually it was just the output of the Sony CD player, through an attenuator, into the camera's microphone input. The Kenwood was there just for looks. :-)

  • LOL! ... OK, the Kenwood really "looks" nice K!

  • The video quality is very good. Today's camcoders (especially inexpensive) have much worse picture in low light environment.

  • The poor low light sensitivity of modern camcorders is due to miniturization and increased resolution. The smaller you make the image sensor and the more pixels you pack onto it, the smaller each individual pixel is, and thus the less light it can take in. Sony's current camcorders use a 1/8" CCD, while this one uses a 1/4" CCD -- that's twice as large!

  • Yeah, i knew that... And it's very sad that today everything develops in the wrong direction (

  • Hi Kevin, have you ever considered getting a cheap 3CCD pro camcorder like a Sony CCD VX3 or a JVC GY-X3?

  • Those cameras are just too big for me, plus any cheap ones you can find are likely to have problems due to bad capacitors. Plus, there is a tradeoff: one large CCD gives you better low light sensitivity, while three smaller CCDs give you better resolution.

  • I have a 95 or 96 Sony DCR-PC7E Which CCD already broke and battery alredy dead but It still can play miniDV tape just fine

  • That sounds pretty darn good to me!

  • I could almost hear Jean Shepherd say to his engineer, "Hey Jerry, before I start this story, could you grab my record of cheap jazz music?" :-)

  • That's a nice song!

  • that's pretty good!
