Haha poor Jason tried to outplay Ivey so bad.. damn ivey must have put him on AK or AQ the flop was empty pretty good flop for pocket 9s 237 off suit, if jayson had Aces or Kings he wouldnt re raise ivey on flop instead just call if he had Aces or kings i mean what is he afraid of no way that ivey was on flash draw so thats y ivey knew he had nothing.
ivey had a tell that he just tryed to steal the pot and hes unlikely to have a big poket pair cauz mercier looked back at hes card when he got called preflop 1:12
thats not funny at all Eli is a classless cocksucker hope he loses all his money..guy loses 225k and your gonna say some dumbass shit the second he lost..i would punch him right in the face
lol what could someone let me know why phil is raising OTF here and actually seems to be mad when jason shoves.. the only reason he should betting here is to get All of jasons bluffs to SHOVE and should BE SNAP Calling ivey played this weird...
This was a massively +EV call. This has be the easiest thinking process to back engineer. Gus made a dumbass raise UTG, everyone at the table knew, so Ivey could've been calling Gus with any two cards, and Mercier was like hey if I 3-bet here after a call it'll look really strong. Then 3-bet shoved against Ivey on the 7-high flop trying to represent one of the only 5 hands he could have after 3-betting pre-flop.
@Ipheion you're pretty incorrect in most statement you've made. Mercier is polarizing his range, Ivey is so crushed in this spot mostly but this is simply Ivey doing what Ivey does best, being correct in ridiculous spots.
@Ipheion I've watched this video a couple times and I felt that Ivey realized that he made an incorrect raise on the flop and was committed to call mercier's shove. If Jason had another 100k behind I think Phil would have mucked. I dont feel that either player played this hand particularly well. I think you give ivey a little too much credit when you talk about him trying to protect his image. He probably felt that he was behind a good % of the time against Mercier in this spot.
Mercier took a basic line against the most attentive, analytical player in the world. I'm not being a know-it-all here, but saying that this was a good play is so obviously fucking stupid. It was a squeeze play, he could've had any two cards, and the session was winding down which made it more likely the players are trying to win their money back/maximize profit. This is level one thinking. Ivey's reluctance to call is really just a facade to protect his image... (cont)
@elpokerfan look in to Ivey's reaction,he was not very happy, after Mercier pushed all in.I am big fan of high stakes poker, but this time all Ivey could beat was a pure bluff.
@mindelak I agree with you. Yet he called because he figured that possibility of a bluff from Mercier was too high. If mercier had a high pair why would he push allin on a harmless flop like that?
@jiamonx2 That only makes sense if Mercier believes that Ivey has 88-TT kind of hand. That is Mercier believes allin move would make Ivey fold. There is not enough information for Mercier to narrow Ivey's range. All that said: the point many people made is Mercier's play is very straightforward bluff/semi-bluff, gutsy and well executed. There is absolutely nothing wrong with his play. It is top notch. The reason it backfired is Ivey knows Mercier is capable of such play thus he is prone to call
that, ladies and gents, is why phil ivey is the best.

When he raises the flop bet, he knows he isn't folding to a shove. Standard call in this spot.

@elpokerfan because Ivey re-raised on that flop, therefore Mercier is putting Ivey on an overpair also, but Mercier is saying he has KK or AA here
