Those are flatheads not channels. Dang nice fish. I cant believe thier biting on liver. Flatheads usually only eat live bait. Must have hit em just right. I used to live up in Watertown, never did any catfishing tho...guess I missed out lol. Channel cats are alot lighter color and have spots on thier sides. Flatheads are the way to go....the most prized catfish of all. Good job

u should use circle hooks

@1996catfish we used circles but we ran into some light biters that would drop the bait - cant set the hook quick with circles

u should use circle hooks instead of kahle and baitholder hooks. circle hooks hook them in the side of the mouth every time. they cant completely swallow them due to how the barb is bent. and the best part is they set the hook on themselves so u dont have to. all u gotta do is start to reel and slowly lift the tip of the rod up. they're really helpful and u should try them bill.

another sufficient way that i always use is just get some thread and rap it around the chicken liver 7 or 8 times or however many times it needs it but not too tight because it will rip the livers

that is what I do, using treble hooks. The only problem is in very fast flowing river the bait gets torn off and you have a bunch of tangled thread on your hook.

i got a really nice stream like river by my house bout a mile walk but i do better there than in big rivers, usually 7-8 fish a day, mainly suckers and cats, got a 20 lb northern in once but it's underfished so never know whats in there i hooked one huge 40 lb carp and i couldn't reel in at all i had to drag it in lol, it was a giant fish though, almost broke my pole in the pole holder, was a beautiful day today, got a big muskie on right to the shore and it broke the line got a 9 lb catifsh.
