The AMF 82/30 table is cranked up or down from the table motor that runs and sits above the table, not the way the movie did it by placing a jack on the pindeck because all that would do is bend parts in the table as it tries to move the table up as the gearbox is not moving up with the table as it would when cranked back up by the table motor....
@magua4 Dare I ask what FU is about? Military movies of that era were filled with these type of errors. Most people did not notice them. For those of us that served at some point, it sticks out like a sore thumb. I cannot imagine being a cop and trying to watch cop shows or movies.
Great movie. However, they could have had DeNiro shave and get a haircut. As if beards are allowed in the army. While he is at it, close the uniform blouse and remove the beret indoors. Ugh...
@magua4 when he was sent home, he would have processed through some army post, probably Ft. Bragg, and they would have made him shave. No one would have let him walk around Post with a beard in Class A's believe me.
This bowling alley is in Struthers, Ohio. My wife and I stopped in to see it when we were in the area in March of 2010. It looks just same as it does in the movie, except the bar is in a different location. Worth seeing if you are ever nearby.
this is one of the best and cutest scenes in the movie. I love meryl streep and robert de niro. The Deer Hunter is an fantastic and really beatiful movie. thanks for posting it!

@BIGGREENLEAF1 I think it's more unrealistic that someone would run down an alley and dive through the pins to try to get their ball back.

I can't believe that Meryl married the new guy 6 months after John died. That's moving on very fast.

I didn't knew Aunt Josephine likes to hang out at a bowling alley.

@Opinionator if you remember right he was in pow camp and lost in the woods forever, hence the beard then he got sent home so he never had to shave
