They knew Batman was climbing up the ladder so why didn't they wait until his head came through the platform then grab his cowl & pull it off his head? Batman couldn't fight back because he needs his hands to stay on the ladder
Holy nostalgic memories, Batman! This was the first episode of the 60's show I saw; and it'll be 20 years this month. I still have the episode on tape.
When batman is being stamped on at one stage they had their hads all over his head why not rip his mask off then? I thought that is what the story was about gettig batmans cowl off.
This was probably the longest fight sequence in any episode of Batman. Interestingly enough, it was also by far the longest sequence (nearly a minute) in which Batman was helpless as Mad Hatter and his henchmen took turns choking him, grabbing at his cowl, and stomping on him as he lay with his head dangling over the edge of the water tank. Robin eventually rescued him, but he really looked pathetically weak and helpless for a long time in this fight.
Tell me about it - I was afraid I was going to have to split this into a 2-parter. (There is a 10-minute limit on these postings) I sat at my PC and muttered, "come on already" -(hee-hee) Just like Robin, I felt like saying, "well?...well?"
Agreed. Batman looked pathetic in this lengthy fight. What's worse, he had all of Gotham City looking on as he got a good working over. Not much of a hero in this clip, that's for sure.
For some reason the writers in this series always had Mad Hatter's henchmen give Batman and Robin the most trouble, even in the fights the Dynamic Duo won. There's a first-season battle that's really tense, where B&R are actually getting whipped before turning the tables.
I noticed that, too. The Hatter's henchmen always seemed bigger than Batman and Robin, too. In the end of Part 1 of this 2-parter, they trapped Batman and Robin in the radioactive chamber EASILY, with hardly any fight.
I timed some of the fights. Part 1 of this 2-parter had a 4 minute fight, and both fights against the Sandman (Michael Rennie) were very long, too. King Tut, when he found the Batcave in the 3rd season, also had a 4-minute fight. In the 2nd season, the fights seemed to become EVENTS, and were used to pad the show, it seemed. No dialogue was needed during the fights, so no one had to pay the writers. :)
so he doesnt have his graping gun to go up instead he use the ladder

I always wished they had succeeded in forcing Batman off the water tower:)

I have an idea of how to chop of 3 minutes from this fight sequence.
Simply stand by the ladder...and
push them off =0

At 3:15 I would've loved to hear Batman yell, "ROBIN! HELP ME!" in sheer terror as his cowl was about to be removed.

@blenheim7 I agree. At 3:18 the two henchmen could have held batman as The mad Matter kneeled down and removed his cowl.

You're absolutely right! The fight in the first episode was much better!
I can send you the "sound" of that fight if you'd like.

The Mad Hatter in the 1966 show was one the only villain to know how to both handle in a fight the two crusaders.
