@NetPatriot Yes it will take time for the manufacturers to boost up the specs for USB3, otherwise it will work with around 1/4 speeds... for now. It's kind of ironic though... just as most of the embedded designers got used to USB2... they pop out a USB3... I myself red 1000 pages of text about USB2 and now I have to read 1000 more for USB3... that just sucks...
I'll deal with it, when USB 3 actually reaches those "uber" speeds they are talking about.... and when 1/2 of the world switches to newly upgraded USB 3compliant devices. And If you have delusions that USB 3 will be great at the beginning... you're really confused... USB 3, like USB 2 will have bugs, that will need to be cleared out in time.
I'm not delusional, I actually agree with your last comment, I ll wait too. however, it will be better than USB 2, and faster. the speeds they mention are the maximum with the right hardware and condition, I understand there are other limitations that will lower the speed anyway. but a step forward.
this sucks! I mean, it's much better than USB 2.0. hooray and all that.
but the original plan was to make it be much faster through OPTICAL FIBER. now that would have been awesome. you could have connected devices that are as far away as you want. with this stupid new model they made, the max. length for good functioning will be only 3 meters (~9ft.)!
instead of optical fiber they just added a few little metal wires. they suck for that!
I agree. They did up the speed though. I am however disgusted with the stupid adjective of "Superspeed" Thats like saying powermac. Stupid morons.
Full, High, Superspeed. How in hell do these logically compare! Bunch of idiots. The usb protocal is an inefficient joke. It would have been canned like so many resumes at first sight had it been globally peer reviewed and microcrap not been involved.
get in the wayback machine and see what the speed claims were for USB2, and then what is actually delivered (less than half). i'll believe it when i see it, but it had better be one mind bending implementation because usb has been an underperformer since day one.
I wanna get it as soon as possible! It will help me a LLOTT, I am planning to get a 1tb external drive for my house but it will take too long with usb 2 (just like emfanever,I will not transferr so much at once but I still think its too slow). I just hope that it won't be too expensive to buy.
Fuck me !Can we make it more complicated :plugA one and plugB on the other and?Only one end is compatible with USB2.How about both ends or none of them compatible with USB2!
Two TX - RX ? How many pins USB 3 have? LOL

eSATAp (eSATA/USB) is more economical & easier.
1) 50% of the notebooks out there have eSATAp
2) SATA is in all machine. Upgrading is just a ZERO driver USD 12 delock bracket. 99.9% compatibility as it makes use of onboard SATA.
3). NCIX, Crunchgear have proven that the more economical eSATAp is as fast if not faster than USB 3.0
4) eSATA is found in many NAS. (Note: you need port multiplier feature)
5) eSATAp is ALSO USB 2.0.
6) eSATAp can hotswap!. Can function as IDE mode.

480Mbps to 4.8Gbps (theoretical speed)
Real USB speed has in practice been about 2/3 of the theoretical speed.
on my average PC I move files between my internal disks on average about 2x faster than between a internal and a external USB2 disk.
with USB3 id be able to move the data at the same speed as the bottleneck is the harddrive speed not the usb3 thats 2x not a 10x speed increase.
unless having several harddrives in Raid0 on both ends of the USB3 you will not be seeing that 10X speed.

@VeXorian1337, deal with it , usb3 is great, I always wanted faster usb2. current transfer speed is pain.

just say ten TIMES!!
I mean really... it makes more sense...
these guys just seem stupid, but usb3 looks pretty cool.

When will the average network speed get a 10 boost? Thats the real bottle neck.

Use eSata for external hard drives. Its faster than any USB right now. Dont forget anything on paper does not perform as expected.

i have an 1tb external hard drive and usb 2 is just fine, especially if it is used for backup . Obviously i don't transfer 1tb at once

wtf?! 1 tb? whoa i didnt know that!

I refuse to buy a 1 TB backup drive untill usb 3 is out . . . because transfer is just too slow, I need usb 3 now!.
