It's a shame Countdown is 45 minutes every day. There was a prestige about the longer final that just isn't there when it's the same as a regular show.

I think she left in 1987.

@formulacountdown Cathy left on the 19th November 1987. Carol was put in charge for the beginning of the finals.

@ryanads Actually Cathy left at the end of Series 13 in August of '87, and was replaced by Karen Loughlin; CV didn't do the letters until 1989.

It seems very strange that no sooner have I discovered another nostailgic countdown, then I am told via facebook that an old school friend who lived around the corner to me and mum has died of cancer age 29
