Has got to be the best way to watch these beautiful creatures in there natural surroundings and NOT in some money SCAM eg Sea world and other Zoos where they live in a tank that's half the size of a football pitch all there life ... You don't see any Orcas in the wild with a bent or sagging dorsal fin and that's for a reason ORCA+ZOO=PRISON
these are transient orcas, fish is not on there regular diet, they prefer penguins, seals exc... squid to.. they are not transitional, transitional is not a type of orca. Residents include J K L pods. Transients Dorsals are not as round but still are large
wow i hope ppl kno these are transitional orcas they do eat fish seal etc. lol that y their dorsal fin is smaller they are orcas jut not residental lol silly people
This is amazing! Thank you so much for sharing it. I wish I could go down there or up to Alaska to go whale watching. In my opinion, Orcas are the most beautiful animals in the ocean. :-)
Ok this may be a stupid question but does the Antarctic freezing temperatures in the water feel cold to these whales? How come they can live in these freezing temperatures?
This pod looks like they are all pretty young looking at their dorsal fins. They older ones were probably circling out of sight.
The water temperatures in those waters, is usually between 35 an 40' F, with the exception of ice crystals that can actually bring water temperatures below freezing without forming ice sheets. Too bad the ship born weather platform didn't have any metro conditions as well, to give you a more detailed description of the environment.
What a experience that would be i mean i have seen killer whales in shows such as in sea world etc but to see them in their nature habitate up close would be amazing
Yeah buddy you are right. How can one swim in such a cold water.I would like to swim with them in warm water if I get a chance.I have seen many videos related to whales at splashvision . com.
Its a Great Video!!!... i was in to Antarctic in last Year (2006) but i can`t wash more tah 3 o 4 K. Whales but in this video i count more than 6 or 7 K. Whales its so Beautiful video... but you wash Hunting K. Whales? ohhh I wash, this its very, very Cool, realy its fear with "Ohhh"... Ok... i hope you Upload more Video like this and... anythin more... Great Video...

Same! I call them Orca. I dislike the name "killer whale", sounds like they're ruthless and dangerous or something.
I absolutely love them!!!
TheNecromancer143 2 years ago
they are. not that it's bad, it's their nature. but they ARE ruthless and dangerous.

I believe it's their blubber that keeps them warm when they're in this kind of cold water.

Not 100% sure but gonna say the pod size is too large to be transient, also, transients are not fish eaters but I believe antarctic orcas eat herring

arnt Orcinus Glacialis the same thing as killer whales but Orcinus Glacialis is just a diffrint name for it?
star4560 3 years ago
I think these are Orcinus Glacialis, a smaller subspecies of the killer whale
You can see it clearly by the eyepatch and dorsals
