You covered prep “to” very well in this video. I have been looking for this type of explanation.
I understand “simple” is best for beginners. However, for intermediate students, we need a little deeper “analysis”. I have troubles because I am unable to apply what I learned. I know your deeper level of explanation will help me “how to analyze sentences”. Thank you. -Hisako
Hi teacher, maybe it is worse when I'm learning english and the british english is taught too like if it could be alike but I notice is very different mainly in some pronunciations and often to building phrases to talk. Always I can say about how much helpful your lessons are and that I'm grateful. Thank you very much.

“go to”
I go to the home of (someone …)
I went to the home of (someone …)

I did some research on “go home” and not “go to home”.
Prepositions are usually followed by objects in prepositional phrases. e.g. She went to the store.
However, do not use adverbs as objects of prepositions.
Be careful with words such as home, downtown, today, next/last week, etc. which are sometimes used as adverbs and sometimes used as nouns.
Word “home” as adverbs: She went home last night. <--- No preposition

I think you just remember following 2 rules and there is no explanation about why “to” is not used in “go home”
* We use "to" in order to express movement toward a place.
* With the words home, downtown, uptown, inside, outside, downstairs, upstairs, we use "no preposition."
Example:
· I went upstairs.
· He went home.
· We both went outside.
