Im sorry but if you follow this guide you are nearly guarenteed to end up with a dead battery and on the side of the road..... Heres my guide..... Battery light turns on..... TURN FUCKING EVERYTHING EXCEPT THE CAR OFF I dont give a cock if its night time, those headlights are off bitch.... Pull over immediately and check to make sure you didnt break a belt and that nothing is going horribly fucking wrong.... Get home or to a garage immediately.... Charge battery as needed.

next time you're driving, take a poll and compare how many cars are brand new to how many are not. although some newer cars have various technologies that would make your statement true, the vast majority of even new cars still have pretty rudimentary engines that haven't changed much since the cars from 20 years ago. also, they're talking about the electricity used. turning a starter motor will definitely use more energy than just firing a spark plug at interval for awhile.
