Makoto's voice is powerful, Yukiho's is soft. I like the combination, even though Makoto does tend to be louder than Yukiho. I still think it's one of the best duos I've seen of this song, though I haven't seen Ritsuko and Makoto, or Azusa and Makoto.
I disagree, though. I definitely hear more than just breathing from Makoto. It's not /that/ quiet.

This duo is okay but with Makoto singing too, it's almost impossible to hear Yukiho. The only thing you hear is her breathing.
