Susan Hayward was one of those strong Dames like Bette Davis! Susan was a Brooklyn Girl and you can hear the accent. My father is from Brooklyn and even after 55 yrs living in Niagara Falls,NY at 70,he still has a slight Brooklyn accent, You can take the person out of Brooklyn but you can't take Brooklyn out of the person. :-)
A great performance by a great Lady....Susan Hayward captured the hearts of many fans in the 1950's especially after she made this movie. She was nomintaed for the Oscar on her fourth try, but lost, what a shame. She was talented as well as beautiful and I've loved her for over 50 years. There is no one in Hollywood that I can compare Susan Hayward too. Rest in peace Susan, you are loved more then you may have realized.
This movie is, in my opinion, one of the best of all time and certainly my favourite of all Susan Hayward's movies. This lady had so much talent and definitely should have won the Oscar that year instead of waiting until 1959 for I Want To Live. Susan was the best actress of all time and certainly the most beautiful. I have admired her for sixty years now and to me, she has more charisma in her little finger than any of the modern stars. God Bless You Susan.
The problem I have with this movie is that the costumes do not match the era in which Lillian Roth was a contract player for Paramount Studios. The costumes are 1950's instead of the 20's and 30s. Lillian Roth had a younger sister Ann who was 6 years younger than she was and was a major contributor the the failed marriage of Marx Brother Chico who started an affair with Ann when she was a teenage girl, they met on the set of Animal Crackers in 1930.
This scene is so powerfull!!!, Susan plays the role to perfection..WHY DID SHE LOST THE OSCAR this year???????????????????????????? My GOD.I know..the Magnani thing !Susan LOST the Oscar. Sorry.
Susan Hayward is my favorite actress! She was fantastic! She played this role to perfection. I was married to this kind of man. She captured the part, that is for sure!!! Brilliant, Susan was brilliant! Thank you for making this available!
:) I knew that deltabean - I made parody of the film called "Crest Of The Dolls" - it is the version I am referring to - check out my profile for the film - it is quite fun :)
The movie was amazing and Susan Hayward magnificent as usual. More than 50 years ago I had the privilege of meeting Lillian several times, the first time being at the Palace Theater in New York. She was talented, friendly and gracious. Certainly, she desrved to have an actress of Susan Hayward's caliber portraying her. Thank you for the memories.
Love this movie. Hate these scenes with Richard Conte. He played such a nasty, dirt bag in this movie so well. This movie always gets me teary eyed, especially when her and Jo Van Fleet are on welfare and Susan is strung out...
Oh my goodness! Susie did a great job on this scene, I had a really hard time watching it....

This scene is so real it's hard to say how good she was in it. She played the part to the hilt and one feels it all. What an actress!
