  • Can't just stick to informing? Must tear someone down? Piss off froggie.

  • For those about to rocck, baby. For those about to rock.

  • @DoctorWortspieler Calvin and Hobbes...that's exactly what I thought of.

  • "Interesting percussion section."

    "Those are cannons."

"Whoa, and they play these in crowded halls? And I thought classical music was boring!"

  • This work belongs to the whole world! Tchaikovsky wrote it for the day of victory over the French in 1812. Where the choir performs:

    - Lord, save Thy people

    and bless thine inheritance,

praying for the victory of the Orthodox faith and in holy Russia... does not go further translated into the English Church Slavonic words

  • This video is so well done -- the timing of the panning is impeccable! And a great recording directed by Bernstein. Used this for a lesson on Tchaikovsky all week. Thank you to whoever created this. It made me cry the first time I saw it.

  • Every time before I leave the house for a demo, I listen to this, It really stirs the blood

  • Cannon solo...

  • Lyrics: BOOM!

  • I can just imagine a russian schools music room, violin, viola and a cannon

  • @fdsdh1 I bet they had a blast!

  • @fdsdh1 the ruskies have all the fun....

  • wow strange concept of "sober classical music"..finale is just missing a bunch of howling hounds!

  • @toagne85 It's a organized madness,.... gives sense to the nonsense,..... it's , if u cannot understand it yourself,u will never understand how a human body/soul works

  • @toagne85 Sober classical music....lol!! JS Bach once wrote A Love Song to a Potato.... wonder how sober he was when he thought that one up??

  • @HolyMotherofGrid hahaha thanks for the info...in Italy we use to call "potato" just the very part of..i mean..you know..well no wonder if there's someone who wrote a love song to a potato! :)

  • "Leonard Bernstein" Huge Success

  • @RbyRngadh8r calvin never ceases to amaze, in all his infinite wisdom

  • @reidthesailor I was wondering if anyone would catch that reference. Good job.

  • Where did the photos in this video come from? I'm pretty sure photography hadn't been invented during the Napoleonic Wars.

  • @argebarse most of the photos are of A Coruña, where there is a recreation of the "Battle of Elviña or Battel of Corunna" in 2009, where the English and Spanish fought against Napoleon's French troops

  • thanks

    -

btw only idiots love v for vankoff movie

  • j aime la musique mis pas les images!!

  • God fights on the side with the best artillery

     - Napoleon Blown-aparte

  • Why does everyone only think of V when they hear this? The "Ouverture Solennelle, L'Année 1812, Op. 49 (Festival Overture, The Year 1812)" has been a popular song for a almost a century and a half, and yet people only think of V...bleh...

  • @caelenvasius Fuck that boring ass movie.

  • Wasn't it your people who killed the last monarchs of Russia?

  • @pack1 and rightfully so. So it should be with all "monarchs" Up against the nearest wall, Comrade.

"The world won't be free until the last king is strangled with the entrails of the last priest"

  • in soviet russia cannons play bass

  • At the time Russia was at war with France (1812) The United States had its own war The War of 1812 between England and the US in which the the Capitol was burned down.

  • I'm sorry but the only ignorant part about America is our government! How does this video/song say fuck the French? Please don't take the view of 10 Americans and say, "this is how Americans are!" That is not fair.....to anyone. I have never heard an American put down the French, in my almost 30 years of life.

  • @danniedu

It has nothing to do with the Americans. There was a different war during 1812, between Napoleonic France and the Russian Empire. The French invasion failed and this was a song written by Tchaikovsky after the war to commemorate the Russian victory. So yes, this song is putting down the French in a way, but it was not written for or by Americans. Most Americans are ignorant about the true history of this song.

Side Note: This is one of, if not the only song that requires cannon fire.

  • @awesomemonkeyness69 Beautifully said

  • @awesomemonkeyness69

Most of the amerifats believe that french always surrender without fighting.

So, how could they imagine that french army reached and burned down Moscow the same year USA got their white house burned by some canadians?

  • @LeHappiste i love the american stereotype... that were all fat and lazy. Just goes to show how ignorant some other countries are...

  • @awesomemonkeyness69 Exactly, the I812 Overture was written to commemorate the Russians victory over Napoleon's Russian campaign. Napoleon took his Grand Army of close to 600k troops and returned with around 75,000.

America would have gotten stomped by England if England weren't already busy dealing with Napoleon in Europe. I am from America but I would rather not be described as ignorant.

  • Dear Lady Gaga,

    Beat that!

  • @LomTang Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber and Rebecca Black can never beat that! :D

  • @spellbreakerko But Michael Jackson beat it.

  • @LomTang And what exactly does she have to do with Tchaikovsky?

  • @Wotanraven, @ MrMrPWN, glad to see two people on YouTube actually acting like adults. Good form, both of you.

  • 42 Palestinians died during the recording of this song.

  • @joe697 hahahahhahaha, HAHAHAHAHAHHHA

  • Chuck Norris has sex to this music.

  • this is the most beautiful way to say "fuck the french"

  • @MrMrPWN Well fuck you dipshit, and that's from a French-American.

Great music commemorating a glorious historical period that some of you ignorant Americans can't possibly understand, considering historically speaking, you are still pubescent.

  • @Wotanraven I'm actually not American. I live in the US, but I'm Russian and English. I have nothing against France or the French, just Napoleon. It was meant as a playful jab. To be honest I actually like France more than the US. Sorry you took it poorly :(

  • @MrMrPWN Ok, I'm sorry as well for being aggressive. I guess I was in a bad mood and I get tired of these anti-French Americans who keep insulting on every single Youtube video which is remotely related to France.

  • @Wotanraven :D

  • 6 pessoas queriam ter ouvido a música inteira e não só os últimos 4 minutos!!!

  • This song puts chest hair on you!

  • I want this song to play when I give birth.

  • Great victory Great music

  • Who won?

  • @TrekToons Russia defeats France

  • @elcharles2018 I know. It was a rhetorical question.

  • Ah... the sweet sound of explosions in the morning.

  • if this is not one of the greatest overtures ever then I cant imagine what is!!!!!

  • When I was on holiday in France I set the theme at 2:37 as my alarm clock. Never have I felt more epic waking up in the morning! :')

  • So.. is a brass cannon considered percussion.... or brass?

  • This is what real men went in to battle for. Tchaikovsky wrote it will be very loud and noisy and he was right.

  • at 1:02, why does it focus out on a guy's crotch?

  • The cannon is Chuck Norris's instrument of choice, except he doesn't fire blanks.

  • @CANNUCK72 Tchaikovsky kicks chuck Norris'es ass so hard.

  • @thebrowniesaur22 hahahaha true

  • @CANNUCK72

I thought he had a vasectomy. He's been firing blanks ever since.

  • I wonder what region those cannons were aimed at...

  • @theothercanadian france

  • real men play the cannon

  • @s0m30n3el5e Battleship guns are the best in going for the cannon effect for the 1812 Overture. :)

  • @s0m30n3el5e

Feal Men have big iron balls

  • @aedlable Real even

  • Bravo

  • I listened to this in music class when we were learning about tchaikovsky!

  • V for Vendetta, bitch!

  • Cannon Penis: Better than a regular cannon

    'Nuff Said

  • Lol what do you think of MY stero installation? yah the 33rd artillery battalion. Up yours emenem!

  • The cannons are perfect here...

  • Tchaikovsky was commissioned by Nicolas Rubinstein in 1880 to write a festive and patriotic piece to coincide with the Moscow Cathedral of the Savior(built to commemorate the liberation of the Russians from the 1812 Napoleonic invasion), there already existed a body of precedent for the use of brass band, church bells, and cannon together with symphony orchestra. Plans seems to indicate open-air performance in the great square before the Kremlin

  • played during the war of 1812 Canada crushes usa.

  • @rgmks in the war of 1812 we fought those Commie Nazi Jap Charlies after they tried to take our jobs and bomb the World Trade Center

... on the Moon. NOT THE CANADIANS LOLOLOL

  • @GaussRifleGrunt No, I'm faily certain the war of 1812 was when we fought the Third Reich for control of Mars after they fired on Fort Sumter.

  • @ih8makinusernames No no no, it was during the Australio-american war. They even strapped kangaroos with granades cannons come hoppin outta a can, wipe out ten guys...

  • I don't hate the Frogs I am just glad we whipped their backsides. The cannon sounds in this are the best there is. It is true the low compression of cannon you feel in your guts is not felt here but the same sensation is created with these life like cannons and the great music.

    Yours

    Никита Андреевич

  • For those who haven't had the chance to experience to hear that marvelour piece of music WITH real cannon ... you should try to! The cannon makes a clear difference that the recording cannot reproduce. The sound from the cannon is a very low frequency that feels like a wave of sound is pressing on you .. it is hard to describe but the point is that there is no recording that can give you the same feeling

  • To all those who have noticed my chains of comments hammering in the living ignorance, i wish to say the following. I was merely teaching him the use of FACTS. A thing that most americans still don't get. Arguments and facts. Ya kno. The thing of the modern age. Not that of the mideival age where it was seen as a tool of satan, because the church wanted to keep the people dumb as to control them. I proved humanity a service by killing off that ignorant ingrate. He's a waste of oxygen. Im British

  • @AngelBiLove I have no idea what the argument was about, but all I can read in this comment is "I'm better than you."

  • @AngelBiLove Hay i don't hate the french it is that there past is easy to make fun of. Like how one second they are kissing their queens hand and the next they chop her head off, figuratively speaking. The same is for the U.S. .... BUT your coment saying the U.S. are cowards is offencive and dead wrong. We saved your sorry ass in WW2, if we had not stepted in and kept the Luftwaffe you back you would probably be speacking German now. But lets not get in a pissing match over contries.

  • @AngelBiLove So with this said I aplogize about my coment that i have removed and will respect the history of the french and the present day country and its people. I also hope that you will do the same to the U.S.

If you do not, i will not continue to argue with some one who has a very pesemistic vew on a country that has done great things even though we do have done wrong before. All in all bolth U.S. and France have done good and bad in the past but we bolth have evolved into good nations

  • Brave battle from Blücher and Wellington =) God save the Queen!

Tchaikovsky is such a brilliant composer. One of my all-time favourites!

  • 2:36 is the best part.

  • trombones rule!!!!

  • @joyboy232 And why? They invented armpit shaving, they used soap, they gave americans liberty, and the statue as well. All the wars EVER since 400 BEFORE Christ, they battled in more than austria or germany or great britain (cowards huh?) and lost less than 30% in them? They also had more succesful battles in history than the british did. So a frenchman is a good person to be next to during a battle. Seriously you ignorant person, use facts, not just "things you hear" other ignorant people say.

  • Respond to this video... And i live in a country that hates the french. You thickhead dipshit. Look up facts. Without the french, you wouldnt have the english to wirte your little ignorant simple sentence. As all english people had to speak french 300 years because france conquered great britain with William the conqueror in 1066. See? Using arguments. It's that hard. Well, for you then. Whenever, in this society, you say something, support it with arguments. Instead of shit. Troll

  • Respond to this video... So agian, you ingrate. To who, do you think, do you owe your FREEDOM? Precious little bankrupt creationist fat undereducated gun country? DO you really think that 13 little pathetic colonies with NO trade and NO army wouldve stood up to an Empire that ruled 26% of the world? With more than a billion people under its command? The French went bankrupt for your sorry dipshit ass. Ingrate. YOU are the cowards. Targeting elimentary schools for bombing raids!

  • Respond to this video... Look up the american documentary "bowling for columbine" you civilian murdering whorebag. Go eat your mcdonalds and pray to your allmighty. Read a book. That is, if you can read. Since it is more than likely that even, with english being my eleventh language, i have a more profound eloquence in english literature than you do, and know more about american and french history than you will ever know. So shut it, retard.

  • Was there ever a bad version of this piece?

  • 1812 Overture/Cannon & Bells Story (actual sounds) Enter in You Tube search for script

  • I believe it is the 1962 version conducted by A DoratiOne of the best recording of the ever made

  • Are the movie scenes depicted from the movie "War & Peace"? I never saw it. I saw what looks like Napoleon and possibly the Russian General Kutuzov. So I'm assuming this was the Battle of Borodino?

  • i always listened to this with my grand father nearly 30 years ago today was the first time since he passed away i have listened to this piece of music and in all the best ways it reduced me to tears

  • QUÉ MARAVILLA MUSICAL !!!!!!

  • 4 people have small canons...

  • in band class they won't let me play the 155mm cannon :(

  • Hear 1812 Overture

    Remember Mythbusters

  • Better being shooted for music than for killing people

  • i have shivers down my spine :)

  • Is this version speed up a bit?

  • @dreamchaser01 I don't know much about it, but I don't think so. I've heard it on a cd I have, and it's the same speed and pitch.

  • The Japanese SDF did a version live with 105mm. Howitzers right there on the field.

  • watch?v=0F5k70xwGSk&feature=iv&annotation_id=annotation_524213

  • Only Tchaikovsky could write music powerful enough to demand cannon bursts!

  • man i really want a full version for the v for vendetta the explosions where loud and fast i

  • @Hypastpist You got to search around. This is a little closer to the "original"....search for 1812+V for Vendetta

  • it was the Ceremonial Band for the Ceremonial Guard on parliament hill, usually made of members of the reg force as well as GGFG and Grenadier Guards from quebec.

  • Too bad my band teacher doesn't let me play the cannon.

  • Cannon: The best instrument ever created.

  • now use the real cannons in a crouded musical hall!!!! :L

  • I'm not the only one who thought of Risk, am I?

  • if you ever want to here the most epic version of it go to longs park in lancaster Pa on the sunday before to the 4th of july its nice family fun and after words they play the 1812 overture with 20 cannons from americas past after tht there is 45 minutes of epic fire works with a 5 minute grand fenally ive been going every year since i was 3 years old

  • Love it, Tchaikovsky did it right with this one. But it just isn't the same without using at least 4-inch (diameter, inside of barrel) cannon -- and the kind of cannon that has to be loaded from the muzzle. Compared to those beauties, those modern breech-loader cartridge shooters sound like pop-guns!

  • I bet the techno version of this rocks

  • please bloody asses! who the hell is the one calling "song"???? get a brain...

  • I heard this beautiful piece of music once in my city. We were standing in the middle with the orchestra before us and the cannons behind us. I can tell you that in real life, this sounds amazing. The beautiful music, combined with the power from the cannons. Just amazing!

  • Cool, Israel did this!

  • This is my song when I am epic, I just love the cannons.

  • @Cinesound01 lol

  • Largely based on the Battle of Borodino, year 1812, where Imperial Russian forces defeated La Grande Armee, Napoleon's massive army. Written by a Russian, who was obviously very happy that France lost.

  • @ZeHolyMackerel Gosh, I am also yet another Russian who is still happy that France lost. Or - to be precise - that Russia won!! The Russian Empire was celebrating this victory for over 100 years (until 1917). And I will celebrate 200 years anniversary of this Victory in 1912!! :) Tchaikovsky is great! He expressed it all!! :)

  • @Svechka Oops - I meant in 2012! :DDD

  • love how the beginning sounds a little like the french antem :)

  • @Natulcien1992 The composer deliberately included the beginning of the French anthem as a quote to commemorate the French army's advancement to Russia..

  • @Natulcien1992 it actually DOES ;p

  • @Natulcien1992 it actually DOES ;p

  • @dutchgangsta1 The song is Russian but the war is Napoleonic

  • @CAHiredGun Correct. It was composed by Tchaikovsky to celebrate the successful defense of Moscow from the forces of Napoleon

  • @dutchgangsta1 or Napoleonic

  • @dutchgangsta1 From what I remember this was written to celebrate Russia's victory in some war. Crimean war I think

  • It sounds more like musket fire. It just doesn't have that dull WOOOOOMMMPPPPPHHHHHH sound of a black powder cannon. :( I still like the song though
