  • can I cut them small and do the same thing, more like a jam. thanks

  • Just got done canning 4 jars. Yes, that's only 4 jars because that's all the pears I had and I wanted to try this recipe. Very tasty (ate the leftovers that didn't fit in the jars). The ginger enhances the flavor. Thank you for the recipe. :)

  • great info, i enjoyed the simple way you did this. wishe me luck on it.

  • alabama.

  • JUST GOT 100LBS FROM A FRIEND NEARBY!

she got 400lbs off her ma's tree. :)

  • EXCELLENT! THANK YOU!

  • What ever happened to the old fashion souther recipes that only called for pears and sugar. I remember my grandmother making pear preserves as a child and that was the only two ingreadents, no honey, no water, or anything else, and those were the best I have ever had.

  • Thumbs up for pears!

  • I'm sorry, but this does not inform me about the preservation of pears.

  • Which kind of pears can we use? Ripe or still green? Sour or Sweet?

  • Hey I want to know whether we can make something out of DRAGON FRUIT??? I have given few Kgs and don't know what to do with them.

  • This is the video I watch the most in your collection :D Love it !!!

  • Cool video, very useful! Keep it up Patti.

  • Can I put a few apple seeds inside the Jar, so that the preserve will be stickier.

  • Thanks for the video. It will get me busy for few hours haha.

  • I saw my wife this video. She like it!

  • Hey Patti, I follow your instruction and can finally make a pot of Pear Preserves!

  • That's totally amazing haha. I wonder which trees you DON"T have in your garden.

  • I totally love this video. You look brilliant in this video. In fact, all videos that show you in the kitchen are great!

  • I thought you were making preserves like jam, lol! That would be a great idea! These look delicious. Cannot wait to try it, thanks for this great vid :)

  • keep up the great work nice videos you will be doing your own cooking show soon

  • I enjoy your enthusiasm still I would have filled enough jars to make the best use of the 20 minute canning time

    thanks for sharing

  • nice video hey a thought just came too my mind what would it be like too make a pear pie has any one ever heard of anyone making one.

  • @wgseagal I've experimented with pears for pies and other baked goods. The challenge is that oears contain a lot of water and very mild flavor. When you add enough starch to absorb the liquid, you quickly overwhelm the pear flavor. Even using custard to hold the pears together (rather than flour or cornstarch) tends to be too much for the pear flavor. Pectin may be the answer.

Where I've been happiest baking with pears is when I made pear "crisp" which is much soggier than apple crisp.

  • @wgseagal I just made two different types and jars of pear sauce (think apple).

One pie I used juice of half a lemon, some all spice and one very tart apple in with the 5-6 pears. Deeeelicious! The second pie, I left serenely to itself except for a dash of all spice. Neither pie had added sugar, the pears are sweet enough!

  • Finally you upload a new video :D

    Nice Job

  • You rock my world!

  • Your kitchen is beautiful :-)

  • I didn't put up pears this year, but I did get tons of peaches, and I am putting up jars of applesauce all week.

  • Are pears acidic enough to can without a pressure canner?

  • @jmarler2010

    Checked up on

USDA Complete Guide to Home Canning, 2009 revision

free on the web. US pairs can be done in hot water bath. Asian pears are too acidic and must be done in pressure cooker.

  • @jmarler2010 Yes, a boiling water bath is fine for canning pears packed in water or sugar water without additional acid.

  • Oh woah I am going to make these in a few days!

I didn't know that ginger was added sounds great!

  • Nice job! Still waiting for the tour of your fruit trees. Maybe in the spring?

  • @ceadeses Check out my pruning video to see about half of my fruit trees.

  • Great job on the Pears! I tend to skip the lemon in favor of Oranges for the syrup, but the ginger/lemon looks great! Stay DIY!

  • more cooking advice? what happened to the GARDEN SHOW?

  • @StUDioROMe Growing your own food and cooking is what it's all about.

  • @StUDioROMe Maybe it's different where you live, or you've found a way to grow food during the really cold months, but where I live, right now's about the time we put the garden to bed. For New Englanders with a huge harvest and no season-extenders, now is the perfect time for cooking videos! :-)

  • @StUDioROMe She did talk about gardening - she explained about the pear tree
